Curry’s Auto Service

Okay, I’ve come here for couple of years now off and on depending upon the convenience and other factors. I’ve never had any complaints with the service and they’ve always been courteous, patient and helpful (especially Mark [mechanic]). And, yes, they are in the higher tier service rate scale but so are others nearby and they’ve always done quality work. Anyway, over the weekend I inquired about an estimate to get the headlight bulbs replaced on a car that I knew in advance was a PITA to get access to the bulb. I had checked previously with an independent mechanic I also sometimes frequent and got what I thought was a pretty high estimate for one bulb (over $ 100) but he was jammed up for the day. Checked with Curry’s and they were booked up too, but said they could probably do it another day for $ 50. I called for an appointment a couple of days later and showed up a little earlier than scheduled. To my surprise they said they would give me an estimate after determining the degree of difficulty. They whisked the car in in less than 10 minutes and had it finished in about 15 minutes. The service writer told me it was no big deal and went on and did it and also replaced the second headlight (as I said I would likely do) as well all for… :drum roll:… 50 bucks. Not one but both for half a C-​note! Hats off gentleman! I am impressed and you made what was otherwise a dreary, sad little day a lot brighter. Many thanks!!!

I have been going to this location for years with no complaints; however, I had stopped by on 5÷11÷16 and made an in-​person appt for an inspection for the morning of 5÷12÷16. The person at the desk logged my appointment into the computer.
When I arrived, an older, very rude gentleman at the desk said there is almost no way they could guarantee an inspection today with only one technician, as if it were my fault they only scheduled one tech for the day.
He said I could leave it there for the day but there were no guarantees anything would be done.
I guess you could say this will be my last visit to Curry’s Auto on Pickett Street; totally rude treatment to a long time customer.

Called in for a tire estimate and found out I could get a better set of tires from Drew for a little bit less than Costco was offering so I set up an appt for the next morning. I arrived on time and was immediately greeted with a smile.
Drew informed me that the tires that he quoted me for a day earlier were in fact not in production any longer and he only had two in stock. This could have been a more expensive decision (or even a well-​worn ruse to get me in the door) but he immediately upgraded me to a better tire with a longer road warranty at no additional cost. Sweet!
The experience didn’t stop there. Found out my front end alignment was WAY outta whack (damn potholes). After talking directly with the mechanic doing the work (bonus) he was able to show me exactly where the problem was and what he was trying to do to fix it. Not everyone does that folks. Well it did take quite a long time to get it fixed (they offered to drive me home but I had taken the day off work to do this so I stayed), 6 hours later my vehicle was back on the road. I won’t go into how I was able to save even more money on my final bill but suffice it to say that these guys know what they’re doing both with maintenance AND customer service. Thanks guys, great job!

I’ve had okay service here, but recently it has gotten so bad that I’ve decided to go to Goodyear. I went in to have them do a conventional oil change on my Ford Escape (I even came in with a $ 19.99 oil change coupon). The guy said my vehicle required 5.7 quarts of oil and said that the extra 0.7 quart of oil would cost an extra $ 13. When he totaled it up, he was going to charge me $ 40 for a conventional oil change (which I showed him I’d received it there before many times for $ 19.99).
Stay away from the middle eastern employee, he is a jerk but everyone else is great.
Also, this place is actually fairly sexist towards men. They offer women to receive fantastic coupons by email (such as a $ 9.99 oil change), but they don’t seem to let men on the discount list.

These guys were great! My hood latch cable broke and I was unaware of the potential severity of this problem when I brought in my car on a busy Saturday morning. They took care of it and made sure I got home during the repair so I didn’t have to wait in the waiting room for hours. They were completely professional and took care to fully explain the severity of the issue and my options. Plus the facility is clean and nice. I’m new to the area and will be taking my car here for any future repairs.

Wow. The curry’s in arlington needs to take a life lesson from these dudes. Speedy oil change, friendly, honest service… AND lots of great mags in the lobby. This was the only place that could fit me in today and I was like 30 minutes late. They were super cool and got me in and out of there. Added bonus: they weren’t jerks about using a coupon. They accidentally undercharged me and I let them know and they went ahead and charged me that price. I felt like I was in a bearensteen bears book, where they learn that honesty does pay off. Anyway, great experience here and will return! Avoid the arlington location and come here!

I work on cars as a hobby and this was an insult to my intelligence.
This place doesn’t exist to me with such blatant attempts to con.

Top notch and honest auto service. I have been here a few times and each time the service was excellent. Very knowledgeable staff who take their time explaining issues and remedies after a thorough inspection. They also keep up-​to-​date with the industry by attending training seminars, etc. Highly recommend.

I’m about to drive my car across country and Curry’s Auto took the job seriously. I had some regular maintenance that I was behind on. Their prices were reasonable and they were easy to work with. Everything was very clear and they even drove me to the Metro station. I really appreciate their great service!

I got a nail in my tire and called the closest Currys as I had the insurance on my tire through them. They answered right away and coordinated getting a new tire ordered even though I had gone through another Currys location before. They even drove and picked up the new tire for me so could replace it earlier before I had a long drive the next day. They definitely went over and above. Everyone at this location is so knowledgeable and you can tell care about their clients. I highly recommend them (and I have very high standards).

I felt my steering being pulled and was due for an oil change, so I called around to get prices for an alignment and Curry’s Auto in Alexandria was the best deal! They gave me a good quote under every other local shop, had coupons available for oil changes and were able to schedule my appointment to come in at my convenience. When I showed up, they were expecting me, I was met with a friendly face and told about their complimentary amenities they offer while I wait. The tech told me that they’d check my car first to see if I even needed the alignment and that if I needed anything else they’d walk me thru it. Now, my car is pretty new, so I didn’t think it’d need much, and neither did they. After a short time I was told that I was correct and needed an alignment, that they’d take care of that as well as my oil change and oil filter change, that’s all I needed and that’s all they sold me, I’m happy about that! I got to sit back, drink coffee, use their wifi and watch tv while my car was worked on. It was excellent service, an unbeatable price, and I would definitely recommend them!

Evan at the front desk was more than nice and accommodating. John took my car in for an oil change, after he was supposed to be done for the day, and had it done in twenty five minutes. Beyond satisfied with these guys and will be back.

I used to recommend this shop. Not anymore.
Beware, this business no longer carries the service and quality that they once had as Curry’s Auto.
It was not just one bad experience, it was several times for different services.
Labor prices doubled, wait times tripled, and customer service went down the drain.
Everything that was once good about this place has significantly diminished.
Expect the same or worse quality work that you would expect from Mr. Tire chains across the country.

We took both cars here since Sept 2012. We stopped and looked for another auto service the fall of 2014. Since Curry’s were bought by Mr Tire, I noticed little changes like ever changing faces at the desk, a shady quote for a relatively large repair, longer waits for oil change, etc. Last summer, I went in for a regular oil change and they informed me I needed the cabin filter changed. They didn’t have the filter in stock but will have it next day. They charged me for the full labor of changing the filter that day, and said they will just put the new filter in next day. When I came back the next day, they tried to charge me for the labor again. In 4 months when I came back for oil change, they tell me I need a new filter again. When I pointed out I just had it replaced at last service, he pulled a «oh, I am looking at someone else’ car» then said everything was fine. I saw my name at the top of the paper. My husband’s car would vibrate when driving on the highway, they said one wheel bearing was bad or loose and quoted $ 500 to repair. Made an appointment few days later, and the guy working asked «how much did we quote you». They advertise the repair costs exactly what they quote. So, don’t they keep a record of what they quote??? The repair didn’t fix the issue. Brought the car back, they said now that all 4 wheels were bent??? That was the final straw. We won’t be using this auto service anymore.

I got a nail in my tire and needed it replaced. I called them and ordered the replacement tire, which was around $ 30 less than my dealer would have charged. I brought my car the next day and they gave me a ride home and back when the car was finished. The new tire is working fine and they balanced the other 3 tires for around $ 20.

I recently brought my car to Curry’s to diagnose and fix a bad power steering leak on my ’04 S4. In short, the folks at Curry’s tried to up-​sell me for repairs that were completely unnecessary for the problem at hand. I would not recommend this shop.
It’s common on my car for hoses to break (since they are beside headers). I thought this was what had happened, and expected a quick diagnosis and replacement of the hose along with a fluid flush. Instead, I was quoted a $ 5000 bill. For what? A full replacement of the entire power steering system (pump, rack, column, hoses, lines, reservoir, etc.). The reason: there were metal flakes in the power steering fluid which could not be flushed out. These flakes are common in Audi power steering system because, as the fluid begins to deteriorate, it corrodes the aluminum wall of the steering column. It’s not necessarily indicative of a pump failure, or a major problem for the entire system. Without even determining where the leak had originated, they had decided that the entire system had to go!
I ended up bringing the car to a VAG specialty shop in the area. They told me that Curry’s claim that a fluid flush wouldn’t save the system was ridiculous («that is what a flush is for — to clear out all of the old/​bad stuff»). In the end, it was still an expensive repair because I also had them replace the leaky power steering rack (might as well when the car is opened up to save on labor in the future, and these are a common failure in my car). However, only the failing parts were replaced, and it ended up being $ 2000 cheaper than what Curry’s had quoted.
DO NOT TRUST CURRY’S TO DIAGNOSE YOUR CAR TROUBLES! Get a second opinion on expensive repairs, and be wary that Curry’s will try to up-​sell you for repairs that you don’t need.
I would not recommend this shop for anything beyond basic repairs such as tire replacements, etc.

Found myself in a jam while traveling from Philadelphia to visit my family in South Carolina. Tim and his team took my car in and made the repairs in a few hours and got me back in the road.
I couldn’t ask for a better place to have broken down near.

These guys are great. They are honest, the prices are fair, and they do great work. There’s no high pressure sales, and they really take the time to communicate with you and help you understand what you are paying for. Their technicians know their stuff the way that only truly experienced people can.
I brought my Honda in for a tire change, and they called to tell me that the bushings needed replacing. The technician told me that while the bushings were relatively cheap, the real cost was in replacing the trailing arm, which due to a shortsighted orginial build at Honda almost always had to be replaced with it. Rather than call me several times telling me that it was going to be more and more money, they told me the cost up front, explained the procedure, and then let me choose. Of course I did it, and the car has been much improved ever since.
When I came in to check the car, the technician took me back into the garage and showed me the damaged parts that he had replaced, and explaining why replacement was required, and what it took to do the job. The whole thing really made me feel confident that my money was being well spent, and that they had earned every penny.
I won’t be taking my car anywhere else from now on.

This place is great.
Non-​shady mechanics, friendly service, quality work.
My only gripe is they tried to up sell me a service, but that’s nothing but business as usual in the auto service field.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for quality, honest, reliable auto service — with a smile — this is THE place to go in Alexandria.

This place really is as good as it gets. I’d give them six stars if the system went up that high!
THEY’RE HONEST! I’ve taken my Land Rover Discovery to them several times over the last year and had great service. I was FRUSTRATED with Alexandria Land Rover or Land Rover of Alexandria (whatever name they’re using) and turned to Curry on the recommendation of a friend. So, I went from a place that traditionally ripped me off, to a place that made a point of telling me exactly what work needed to be done… and why!
I recently had to have my car towed to Curry because the engine overheated. It had leaked oil for years but Land Rover could never quite figure out what was going on with the vehicle. The folks at Curry found the problem in under an hour and told me that the cost to fix the car would be more than the car is worth. Could you imagine having someone in the business of fixing cars recommend that you shouldn’t have the car fixed? THAT’S CALLED HONESTY.
I donated the car to a charity and Curry allowed me to keep the car at their garage until it could be towed; about a week after they originally diagnosed the problem. I asked how much I owed them for keeping the car on their lot (some garages charge) and the gentleman said «no charge. that’s not how we do business here!»
We wouldn’t think of taking our cars anywhere but Curry’s Auto Service.
