Current Boutique

Very poor customer service. The employees were talking about their sexual encounters in the store with customers present. They were too engrossed in talking about this to even address me when I entered the store.

I have both purchased items and have sold 1 item, another was «donated» from the Alexandria store. After 90 days Current Boutique reserve the right to «donate» your items without consent.
The items I purchased (about 3 months ago) were three skirts and a blazer, all in good condition and the prices were ok.
The items I brought in for resell were two jackets and a pair of black plants. The jackets/​blazers were purchased for 90 – 100 bucks and the pants were purchased originally for about 80ish dollars; I went back at 30 days later and they weren’t sold, so I figured I’d just take them to the Salvation Army, but their policy is that they stay til they sell. Well… I came back today and figured I’d see if anything sold and to give a few other items a chance to be sold. Before handing my items over the clerk checked my inventory and out of the two jackets I had a 12.50 credit. I asked why the total was only 12.50 and she said they donated my other jacket. There were no notes indicating why. So, it’s ok to donate my items, but I couldn’t have them back when I requested nor would they give me a receipt stating my items were donated. «It would be too much work to notify customers when and why their items are donated» stated by the clerk and they won’t pay you for the items that they just give away. But it is my fault that I didn’t read the contract I signed. I don’t remember what the contract stated… but how do I know some one didn’t just keep it for themselves? Needless to say I didn’t leave my other items. I would not recommend selling your items here and I will not purchase from Current Boutique again. What I experienced is ridiculous and unacceptable.
Update 1÷28÷2016; I received a check today for 11.50 for the jacket CB sold. I was told they only issue checks by mail; they charged me $ 1 for their processes and procedures. I really hope this place goes out of business. They steal from customers.

I went to Current Boutique while wondering King Street with a friend on 12÷13÷15.
I always enjoy a trip to this store. It is very clean and organized and you often forget that you are purchasing overstock or used items.
I was greeted by the staff and asked if I needed help.
It is hard to go to Current Boutique with needing something specific in mind but you can always count on the fact that they’ll have dresses available.
The only reason I cannot give this store a 5 star rating is that they don’t tend to carry pants in a sizes larger than 12. I can often find tops that I like but have never been successful in finding a pair of pants.
In a nutshell, if you like designer names in your wardrobe but live on a shoestring budget Current Boutique is worth a visit.

Never consign at Current Boutique. I wish I could give 0 stars. I have never written a Unilocal review before. I have never received service bad enough to justify a review. But Current Boutique in Alexandria has pushed me to write a negative review and explore CRIMINAL action against the store and its owner. This store has basically stolen my items.
I consigned a Louis Vuitton wallet, a pair of Tory Burch riding boots, a pair of Tory Burch Reva ballet flats, and a pair of Elaine Turner boots to Current Boutique in Old Town more than a year ago. Over that time, I periodically checked in to see if my items sold. Each time I was told they had not and to try back later.
This week I tried back one final time. When the salesgirl on the phone gave me the same spiel, I told her that I would pick up my items and sell them on my own. She told me that I could not pick them up. I told her that I did not want the items to be donated, which is what I understood that the store does with items that do not sell. She told me that my items had not been donated and were not slated for donation. When I asked her where my items are now, she could not tell me. When I asked her when they had been on the sales floor, she could not tell me.
Astonishingly, she took the position that she did not have to tell me where my items are or honor my request to get them back. She claimed that the consignment contract gave the store exclusive rights to do whatever it wants with my items.
I am a practicing lawyer, and that is not consistent with the legal definition of consignment. A consignment store sells goods on behalf of the owner; a consignment store does not gain ownership of the goods.
I asked the salesgirl to provide me with the copy of the contract that I signed, the sales history for the items, and a phone call from the owner. The salesgirl told me that the owner probably would not call me back because SHE GETS THESE COMPLAINTS ALL THE TIME AND SHE DOES NOT CARE. I told the salesgirl that I would be forced to take legal action if the owner did not call me and provide the information that I requested by yesterday. The girl responded by telling me that THE OWNER WOULD NOT CARE BECAUSE SHE HAD DEALT WITH WORSE THAN ME.
Needless to say, I did not get a call or the requested information. This has gone beyond bad customer service to theft. For all I know, my items did sell and I was never paid or the owner or one of the salesgirls converted my items to their own use. For these reasons, I have contacted the Alexandria Police about filing a theft complaint against Current Boutique.

This place was awesome! The associate were friendly, the place was nicely arranged, and the prices were great. I was in town for business but look forward to my next trip just to shop here!

Current has several locations in this area, but I’ve only been to this one and the one on 14^th Street. The day I came to the Old Town Current boutique, there were a lot of great pieces. I prefer dresses and skirts to pants, so I found a plethora of those in the store. Everything’s organized and arranged pretty well. Of course occasionally you still see a misplaced size 2 skirt in the size 6 section, but for the most part, everything’s in its proper place.
I think Current can be hit or miss. The day I came, it was luckily a hit. I found a fun black dress to wear when the weather’s a little warmer and a tweed skirt to wear to work. These two items came out to be $ 35. They were also having a sale where all dresses were 10% off. While browsing, I found two Diane von Furstenberg dresses for $ 65 and $ 99 respectively, which is a steal compared to the retail price of DVF dresses. However, there were definitely some misses too. For the prices of some of these gently-​used clothes, they were more than the retail price of the outfit at its new, peak condition.
I am very happy with the black dress I found. The skirt isn’t too bad either. They’re both very classic pieces I can wear anytime. I didn’t try on any of the clothes in the store because for some silly reason, I thought I could return it if it didn’t fit (when the weather is cold, I get lazy and don’t usually try on clothes). Naturally though, this is a consignment shop so «returns» are really consignments. Luckily, both pieces fit (the dress more so than the skirt) but next time, I will have to try everything on at the store.

I’ve consigned items here and shopped here, both experiences are hit or miss.
I have bought things here, but I often walk out empty handed. The store is bright and clean and well organized. Towards the front they sell new clothes. In the used section, they have a lot of selection, and everything is in good condition, but the prices can be unreasonable. I like to buy used when possible, but I’m not willing to pay more for an Ann Taylor skirt than I would pay for it on sale, new, at Ann Taylor. That being said, sometimes you can find good deals, but you have to dig.
If you’re consigning, be prepared to leave with most of what you bring in, but that is true at most consignment shops I think. Usually I stop on my way to Goodwill, so it doesn’t really bother me since I was going to donate everything anyway.

I have been to the Old Town Current Boutique and the Courthouse/​Clarendon Current Boutique. The Old Town location has a lot more inventory. As a result, it tends to be busier. If you are not a fan of crowded shopping, you may want to try the Courthouse/​Clarendon location first. Also, for me personally, there aren’t as many items in my size. Despite the huge inventory, they didn’t have a lot of smaller sizes in shoes, tops or dresses. They had ample sizes of the mid-​range and average sizes though. Although I did not look, I suspect there is not a huge selection of larger sizes either, though that seems to be unfortunately consistent at consignment shops.
Also, Current Boutique has a website where you can buy items from any of the stores online. I have not tried it yet, but it’s a nice option for items you know will fit you. I recommend checking it out if you cannot make it to one of the stores.

This place is modestly priced and they seem to be at best, average in quality and condition of their items.
While I was there shopping. they were reviewing a consignors items and denied her items because it was not trendy enough. But yet they were ok selling 4 yr old Loubs for 450.00!
The employees that work there are snooty and nosy. One girl that was steaming an item just kept staring at people as they passed by and then kept asking me if «I was ready», that’s really rude and annoying, considering I had not even tried anything on yet. I am a fat person and in my mind, I really should try stuff on before I buy anything.
The store has average, some really outdated items, that dont even qualify for the vintage category, just really much older labels that you could find at the salvation army for a lot less.
Shop there if you dont mind being stared at and asked if you «were ready» every 2 minutes. Only reason I give it two star instead of one, being zero is not an option, I got a great Vince shirt for 34.00 but it smelled so bad I had to leave it in the trunk of my car till today so I can get it dry cleaned.
The place is weird and creepy, not the décor, it is nice, but the people there, its as if they are either really fragile, or just so mean, they dont know how to be genuinely nice.
Go there if you like, but I have no reason nor will to return.

Current Boutique is a consignment shop in Old Town with a good selection of gently-​used, moderately-​priced items. First things first, I would visit Current over Mint Condition as the items are priced more fairly, in better condition, and (no pun intended) more current.
I visited this past weekend looking for a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding and was pleased with the variety of items that would have fit the bill. I felt that the shop was quite heavy on the dress end, which worked in my favor, but I’m not sure I would come back here if I were looking for a different item. The clothing was well-​organized by size, which made sorting through the racks much easier.
Overall, while it was a fine experience.

I went in here with very high hopes. I’ve heard tons of commercials on the radio for Current Boutique as the shop where the elite of DC drop of their old clothing. With that being said, I expected a lot of high quality name brand pieces.
Unfortunately, I was seriously disappointed. As other reviewers have said, the front of the store has new clothing from various brands — nothing very exciting in this section. Also, lots of consignment shoes up front. This was actually the biggest surprise of the trip: really good brands like Kate Spade, Cole Haan, barely worn, and at a great price!
The main consignment section is in the back, and the prices were just way to high to justify purchasing anything. Most of the jeans were in the $ 60-​$ 80 range (which IMO is just way too high for second hand jeans). In addition, the brand selection was seriously lacking — I saw more Merona, Mossimo, and Loft than almost anything else. I’m pretty sure these pieces are not from DC’s most fashionable women.
The shop is clean and well organized, for what it’s worth. Just be prepared for a seriously disappointing turn out.

This location of Current is just great! Less crowded and more low key than the U Street location. A very nice selection of new pieces as well as a well curated selection of gently used pieces. I fell in love with a Diane von Furstenberg piece but it was not to be. Next time!

This store has both new and consignment stuff. To my surprise, I found the new stuff quite affordable and the consignment stuff overpriced! They carried lots of cute lines in the front section of the store, which had all their new stuff and which looked to all be under $ 100. The consignment stuff made up the second ²⁄₃ or so of the store and had a lot of nice stuff, mostly mid-​range lines like J. Crew and Ann Taylor, with a surprising amount of Tory Burch. I just found the prices on the consignment stuff too high to really take seriously — if there had been something I truly loved I’d have sprung for it but for mere like, I wasn’t biting.
That said, I did end up buying a new dress! So it was a good experience overall. I’d give this store a browse every couple weeks to look for true finds, because it has a large selection and definitely could reward frequent searching.

At the end of my rope in my attempt to find new jeans (I have not gone jeans-​shopping in many years because I have a 10 sized set of hips and a 6 sized waist…), my husband remembered that Current Boutique has a whole rack of designer jeans on consignment behind their front section of cute (new) dresses.
While I still failed to find anything, save a cute jean mini skirt, the employee directing the dressing rooms was completely sympathetic to my plight. She chatted away nicely while organizing clothing and people (it was a particularly busy Saturday, so I had to wait a couple minutes to get a room for both rounds of try-​ons) and commiserated when I still failed to find an acceptable solution after round 2.
The shop is small and a bit tight, but well-​organized. Prices are reasonable to maybe a bit high for consignment (around $ 57 for jeans from brands like 7 for all Mankind, Citizens, Joe’s Jeans, etc., but the $ 40 for the Marlow jean skirt seemed steep). Given the location smack in the middle of King St. in Old Town, though, the prices are not too surprising. I also love a lot of the shapes and styles of dresses they have up front, I just wish more of them were in natural fabrics (cotton, wool). It always seems like there’s a lot of polyester going on… Regardless, we will probably continue to swing in here once every couple of months to check out the current items.

I’ve found this consignment shop to be very hit or miss. Sometimes I’ll go in and find lots, other times I’ll find nothing.
Pros: Reasonably priced (usually), cute, seasonable clothing. They have a good selection of handbags, a smaller selection of shoes. The staff has been friendly to me and whenever I’m pulling stuff off the rack to try on they’ll come by and ask if they can take it and start a dressing room for me — that is much appreciated. If you consign with them you’ll get emails from time to time about special discounts (recently got an email for 20% off everything!).
Cons: They’re weird about what they consign. I think it’s good to be picky but I once bought a dress there, didn’t wear it, and brought it back to for consignment (there are no returns) and they didn’t want it. Seems like if you accepted it once for consignment you’d accept it again… Some of their stuff seems a bit overpriced, but I think this is when they’re basing the price on the designer label. Understandable but even if it’s a designer label it still needs to be the current fashion.
Overall it’s a good consignment store. It’s well organized and clean. If I find something I like but it’s overpriced I don’t feel the smallest bit of remorse for putting it back on the shelf.

This is my fave location so far, only because I’ve only been to the Clarendon one and this one.
CONSIGNMENT
This place gets me the most money for the clothes I no longer wear. It really is AMAZING! I constantly bring in clothing items and bags, and often get hundreds for a bag full of items. You bring stuff in, they look through it while you look around, you fill out a form. Simple. You get to choose to get a check mailed to you, or use the money to pick up new stuff for yourself or your loved ones.
BUYING
I’ve gotten great things for great prices here, from bags to dresses, to jewelry. If something seems high, I don’t buy it. Plain as that. Just this weekend I bought 5 clothing items for a little over $ 150. Seriously? This included a BCBG silk top, Banana silk dress, etc. Even better, I used the money on my account and still had $ 80+ left. I even had $ 35 MORE in my account than I had just 3 weeks before. Unreal. Sometimes you get really lucky with their bags. I mean, it’s ¹⁄₃ the price. I got a black Michael Kors Hamilton in new condition for a little over $ 100. I get tired of my non-​high-​end bags fast, so this fits the bill perfectly.
STAFF
In general, they’re helpful and friendly enough. I often get asked if they can start a dressing room for me. Just this past weekend, I got that treatment AND my clothing was brought to the front while I looked around some more.
I really want to visit the other 2 stores, especially the Logan one. I’m a fan.

I am not sure if the service I received at Current Boutique is typical of the store or not, but I am not pleased!
I went in looking for a top to go with some shorts I just purchased from Anthropolgie further down the street. There were three girls working (a blond, a brunette being trained, and another brunette in an inappropriately short skirt). None of the employees greeted me as I came in (maybe they were busy, though it didn’t appear that way, but it still felt unwelcoming as I came in).
No one checked in with me while I was shopping to ask if they could help or what I came in for. More rudeness.
One of the employees (inappropes short skirt employee) came back and spent the next five minutes telling the other girls how she had just talked to the DMV, yadda, yadda, yadda. I’m still browsing without being greeted or helped.
I find a shirt to purchase (a little expensive for what it is — 15 dollars, signs of wear, from The Limited, not exactly a steal) and walk up to the counter. Short skirt asks me if I am ready, then tells me she will help me in a minute. Waiting. Waiting. She is on the computer. I’m waiting… The blond employee tells me she will take me at her register, says nothing to me during the transaction, and then hands me the bag with a monotone, «Here you go.»
Ugh. I left feeling brushed off and unwelcome in the store.
Positives to be fair: They had some cute clothes, but I felt it was over-​priced consignment. The location is great in the middle of Old Town. I am not planning on going back because there are tons of other places where I have a happy experience parting with my money. This was not one of them.

Is it just me or are there lots of ice cream/​fro yo, cupcake and consignment stores in Old Town?
Current Boutique puts new, never worn merchandise up front. Most of the dresses appeared to be from Ya Los Angeles in the price range of $ 68.95-$ 88.95. The store also sold necklaces and earrings.
In the back is where most of the consignment items are: jeans, tops, dresses, bags and shoes are neatly sorted. The items were priced typical of what I have seen at other consignment stores, but I didn’t find a real gem today.

Swung through here this past weekend to check out the place. It’s large, clean, and well-​organized, and definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area. (I wouldn’t go out of my way though…) Only one employee (out of 2 or 3) acknowledged my presence, and she was nice but not pushy (which is always appreciated).
I tried on a few outfits (none of which worked — boo!), but I didn’t end up getting anything. I wasn’t blown away by the selection (and often found myself scratching my head at a few pieces and wondering how in the world the store decided to accept some clear duds), but I think this is the kind of place that you have to frequent regularly to find that perfect gem of an outfit! That said, if you are in need of a little retail therapy while you’re in Old Town, you should definitely have this place on your list.

I’ve been here several times to consign. They are pretty fair about it, but I’m always a little surprised at what they take vs. what they do not. Sometimes I’ll have things in the «Goodwill pile» and decide to take them to Current first, and they snap those up. At the same time, they’ll turn away practically unworn high-​end items that I would think would actually sell.
I don’t tend to buy any pieces there, because they often seem a little pricey still. That, and the fact that when I spot something I like it’s generally not my size. They do have some designer stuff, but most of it is more mid-​range (J Crew, Banana, Anthro). I don’t really understand why they take H&M and cheap things – they don’t ever seem to be priced low enough that they are worth it.
The new, boutique-​y clothing at the front of the store is usually cute but looks cheap. Lots of polyester, kind-​of Forever 21ish. I think I’ll mostly stick to consigning.
