Complete Chimney and Fireplace

I STRONGLY encourage all potential customers to read the negative reviews because those experiences were very similar to mine. I purchased the $ 99 Angie’s List Big Deal for Complete Chimney & Fireplace Inc. In short, I scheduled the first available appointment in October that was not available until November 30^th. On the day of the appointment, the servicemen never showed up. Upon calling the office, I was told me that the servicemen could not find parking and left although I never received a courtesy call in advance as promised. I never heard back from the company despite my specific request for the supervisor to call me the next day. I literally placed 30 calls (and a few messages) to two different numbers throughout the next week and finally got a hold of a representative who took no fault, sought no resolution and only offered me another appointment 45 days later, but encouraged me to request a refund from Angie’s List. The servicemen are lazy and unprofessional and the customer service is disorganized, unresponsive, and mismanaged.

Also surprised to see the negative reviews here. I didn’t have a amazon/​yelp/​living social deal and maybe I can see a laid-​back approach to scheduling etc., but let’s start at the beginning.
I tried to contact the competition on several occasions and through a couple of channels and ended up with no response at all. Dan got back to me and we met for an estimate. I have a new (to me) house with a chimney that wasn’t capped properly. Water was seeping into the chimney, soaking through the bricks, and freezing. The expansion that happened when the water froze popped the fronts off of the bricks and compromised the structure of the chimney. Left to itself, the structural damage was going to creep down the chimney.
So Dan presented my options: take down the leprous part of the chimney and re-​cap it. Take it down and rebuild it. Leave it alone and have the structural damage creep further down the chimney.
We decided to bring it down and cap it properly since the fireplace had already been converted to gas. When I’m ready to update the gas insert, I’ll be calling Complete Chimney and Fireplace.
So why not 5 stars? Well, they left a bit of the rubble behind from the demolition. In a perfect world, they would have gotten all the bits of degenerate brick out of the yard.

Complete chimney and fireplace inc came by a neighbors house to service their chimney. The driver was going at least 30 miles an hour in a cul-​de-​sac for houses. When I approached him about his excessive speed, he decided to argue with me about speed limits. When I told him I was reporting him to his company, he seemed very UNconcerned about that and gave me a business card. On the way out of the cul-​de-​sac, he ran a stop sign…

Wish I’d looked at these reviews before I bought my groupon for this company. I’m not sure why they have groupon, Amazon, Unilocal & Angie’s list deals if they can’t seem to keep up!
When I called to book my appointment they only had one day available in my service area for the entire month of April. It was not convenient at all but I had no choice and booked that day. I received a confirmation email that warned me that I had to answer my phone during the arrival window to verify someone would be home or they would move on to another appointment. I got a second reminder email the day before the appointment. One hour and 45 minutes into the arrival window they called to say a technician called in sick and they had to reschedule… next availability in a month! The office manager couldn’t do anything except page the supervisor who was out in the field. After 2 more follow up phone calls on my end pleading for them to send someone on my scheduled appointment day, I gave up… and no one has called me back. It’s obvious from these reviews there is a significant trend going on here and I wish I could give zero stars!

Dan at Complete Chimney and Fireplace is awesome to work with. We had some problems with the work performed, and he did everything is his power to make it right. I was very impressed with the responsiveness.

I agree with all the other reviews here… I scheduled a chimney cleaning appointment with this company. They rescheduled the day of due to the technician being sick. Then the next appointment was rescheduled due to one technician being at a funeral and the other having his «brushes break». The day of the next appointment our window was 1−5pm. I spoke to the technician at 1pm and he said would be at the house around 2pm but would call when on his way. We never heard from him and he would not pick up his phone. I left voicemail at 4pm wondering where he was at with no response and then another voicemail at 5:30pm when he never showed. Although I was upset since my wife and I have taking off work three times now for no reason, I did not use any foul language with the technician or over the voice message. I emailed my complaint and asked to cancel the service. They emailed back and canceled the service but claimed I yelled, used foul language at the technician, and threatened him. I emailed back and said they must have the wrong person because I never did that and maybe the technician said that to cover missing the appointment. Their response was that, «My uncle would never lie». I was astonished that as a customer they treated me this way and I don’t appreciate being accused of something that never happened. Please consider another company who will respect their customer’s time and not reschedule numerous times with many excuses.

Worst company customer service EVER!
Do not waste your time, effort or money… I waited over a month after scheduling the appointment to get a confirmation on the day before my scheduled time. Then less than a few hours before my appointment I received a call from a representative stating that they would have to reschedule my appointment because my technician called out sick. The representative could offer no explanation but state that it would be approximately one more month before they could have someone to come out to my home to complete the services. Unfortunately I had taken a day off from work to have this done and had already waited a month for this service. They could offer no explanation other then oh well, you can contact Amazon local to receive a refund. I would strongly suggest other reviewers utilize a different chimney service, as this has been a nightmare for me. Their customer service is less than sub par…

This company never cleaned my chimney so I can’t comment on the quality of their work. They chose to cancel a few days before the appointment claiming I wasn’t in their «service area,» which is something that should have been determined when I provided my address while scheduling the appointment weeks ago.
I know it said my neighborhood was in their service area at the time of scheduling so it is clear that they changed their policy.
I guess it’s just a good remember that there are bad companies out there and we should all do our work before wasting our time with them.

Ditto on all the negative reviews. I had an Amazon Local coupon and have been stood up twice. The first time the technician had to go to the hospital, supposedly the night before, but no one called me. Here I am today sitting at home, taking off work the second time, to wait for these idiots who were supposed to come between 8 and 11. Called in and the scheduler cannot reach them. I asked to speak to the owner and he is at the hospital with his wife. they seem to have a lot of medical emergencies. I am cancelling and getting a real company to come service the chimney.

Unfortunately I have to agree with all the other reviews here. We also bought an Amazon deal and scheduled our appointment. They rescheduled our appointment several times. One rescheduling was due to a death in the owners family and they had no other technician available. They were very nice on the phone, but didn’t call us until about an hour before the appointment. We rescheduled, and had an appointment between 1pm — 5pm set up. They never showed up. We called and they said they stopped by the house and no one was there and they left a note. First, they were suppose to call before they came, which they didn’t. And they certainly did not come to our house. Not only was I there the entire time, but no note was left from there. Reported them to Amazon and received a refund.
The only reason this company is not receiving 0 stars is because, 1. Zero is not an option. and 2. They were very nice on the phone.
Service wise, go elsewhere.

More of what everyone else is saying. I purchased an Amazon local deal, and sent email. The guy says, «We don’t schedule in email, call the office» which took more time than just being helpful and scheduling me would have. So we called the «office» (which I suspect is a voicemail dumping ground) TWICE. Nothing, nothing, nothing. I finally emailed the guy again and say «would you please respond to the voicemail?» and included TWO numbers. Wow, someone called us… to say they don’t service our area.
…boggle, pause for breath, enhance your calm…
The problem now is, the deal is very clear about what their service area is, and we are definitely in that area. Don’t say «ALL» if you don’t mean «ALL», and certainly do not put «charges may apply beyond the area» if you’re just going to decide you don’t feel like cleaning my chimney. Guess it is all of us demanding customers irking the you-​know-​what out of them.
I also checked the service area they have listed on their website, which is even less restrictive («entire metro DC area»). Clearly the people who are actually cleaning the chimneys (if there are any) are not in touch with the person returning the phone calls, who is not in touch with the person (or AI) reading email. Huge fiasco. I recommend you avoid this company at all costs. I’ve also asked Amazon to counsel them on what they are advertising, not sure if that will do anything.

I was very surprised to read the negative reviews on this company because we have had nothing but excellent service from this company and will continue to use them in the future for all our fireplace/​chimney needs. It’s not a huge company so maybe that explains the slow response time however, when we had an issue just the other night we received a response immediately and Dan was out the next day to help us out. Considering this is in the middle of the busiest time of year for his company, we couldn’t have been happier with his help. And it was something simple, we needed a little help with getting used to our insert and he took the time to help us with something simple, that’s customers service!!!
We had a fireplace insert installed in July (note to others, fall/​winter is the busiest time for fireplace companies so try and have any fireplace work — cleaning, installs, done in the summer when it’s slower and there are typically better sales) and just started using the insert a few weeks ago. Despite being booked through December, Dan came over to spend 30 minutes with us and help explain how to best use our fireplace. That’s the customer service I want, and would hope for from any company. Again, I believe it’s a small business and that’s what we try our best to support. I’ve never done any Living Social deals so maybe that was a little much for a smaller business, I don’t know, but again, I couldn’t be happier with the friendly, responsive service. They are people you can trust in your home and not worry about their integrity. They also are clean when they come in and don’t leave a mess, and very polite. I highly recommend them despite other peoples reviews.

I also bought a Living Social deal for a fireplace cleaning and have been trying to get in touch with someone at this company for over a week unsuccessfully. I left several messages and today their mailbox is full! If I don’t get in touch with someone soon I will request a refund through Living Social.
**UPDATE** This company finally called me back and was able to schedule our appointment about a month later. Two gentlemen came to clean the chimney and they were both very polite. I wasn’t there while they were cleaning, but it took all of 5 mins for them to clean (using a shop vac and a brush) and be out of the house. Seriously? I would have expected more for the price they charge for a cleaning, but considering I got a Living Social deal, I am not as upset. Maybe they don’t do as thorough of a job because I did have a Living Social deal, who knows. I’m not in the business of cleaning chimneys so maybe this is standard, I just found it surprising that it was such a quick job. I’ll give them a another star because they were polite, but I’m not sure about the service.

I bought a living social for this company in September 2012. After trying for over 2 months to get our appointment schedule… which happened to be another full month out. today 12÷15÷12 Sat between 11 – 2 pm. My wife recieved a voicemail at 1130 am saying they would not be able to make it! What a joke! I am in the service business and all I have to say is this is HORRIBLE business practices. I would not recommend this company to anyone and will do my best to tell as many of my neighbors to stay away!
