Cameron Court

You could not ask for better office staff if you tried. We love it here. I love having a garage of my own. The business center, clubhouse, pool, jacuzzi, fitness center and yoga room are all top notch. Safe and sound in this gated community.

My fiancé and I have lived in Cameron Court for a year and pretty much love it! It’s close enough to Old Town that you can easily get there, but far enough away to avoid the crazy traffic. It’s right next to a great running trail, it has an awesome shuttle that takes you to the Metro (we’re lazy and don’t feel like walking in the DC summertime), and the community is super quiet (but the neighbors are really sweet). Management is EXTREMELY responsive to feedback: anything we need done gets done within a day or two. Overall, we can’t complain — looking at the competition (pricing and all), Cameron Court’s got great things going on!

I have lived in 5 different places in Alexandria, and so far this is my favorite. It is ideal for mature professionals that value you PEACE, QUIET, AND SAFETY.
I had to write a good review due to their handling of the BLIZZARD 2 weeks ago: They did THE best job anybody could have expected. Roads were constantly being tended to with Bobcats, plows, and salt, and they did their absolute best to keep sidewalks clear. They did an AWESOME job handling a rare weather event in our area, and I only wish the city of Alexandria and VDOT could have done as good a job OUTSIDE the community. They worked their BUTTS off clearing the snow at this place.
Solid construction and good noise barriers: I took a corner townhouse unit about 3 months ago and NEVER hear my neighbors except when I’ve talked to them outside in our driveways. I cannot speak for the apartment units, as I have not been in those, but my townhouse is QUIET and PEACEFUL. They layout is nice and the storage space is OUTRAGEOUS: When my parents visited, they were envious.
The GYM looks awesome: I have never actually USED it personally because I am currently having «self motivation» issues getting back into the gym, but I keep LOOKING at it… and it looks GOOD. I’ll keep LOOKING, and eventually actually exercise I hope
Only downsides: I feel a car is REALLY needed here simply because there is no full-​service grocery store within walking distance. Train noise from Metro/​Amtrak trains passing by: This may bother some, but since I use to lived in NYC in an apartment directly over the subway that SHOOK the unit, it doesn’t bother me. I barely notice.
My favorite features are the dog park and the shuttle. The dog park is wonderful for pet owners and very spacious. The shuttle is almost always on-​time unless weather is really bad. I have lived in many places where the shuttle bus driver changes often, usually somebody who barely speaks English — often leaving you wondering if you’re boarding the correct shuttle. This place, the shuttle driver is the SAME friendly face every day. The same shuttle, the same guy driving, on-​time, the same residents riding, everyday.
Safety: This place is QUIET all day and night. It is in the middle of Eisenhower between the Alexandria Police HQ on one end of Eisenhower, and the Sheriff’s office on the other end of Eisenhower. My rental and car insurances DROPPED dramatically when I moved here: That tells me plenty. Crime is very low in this stretch of Alexandria. Also, we are very near Old Town which is fun for dates and getting out.
Walking distance to Eisenhower metro and pretty places to walk along the water along Eisenhower: Good for nature lovers, joggers, people with kids, and folks with dogs
Maintenance responses are fast turn-​around and they always coordinate with me about when is a good time to enter the unit, etc.
Staff: Nice, pleasant, and fun to interact with in the office.
The cute Hoffman Center area a short walk up the street with a movie theater and tons of restaurants makes for a nice quick «date night».
All told, good value you for the money. I plan to stay for a while.

I will be moving out in December, And I will really miss this place. All the selling points & info that the leasing office provides you with is 100% true. Even after move in. (I know a lot of places just try to get you to rent then act totally different) rental office is always polite & friendly. My apartment was gorgeous. Nice thick walls. I will admit we like our music loud in the day time, and even standing outside of my front door, you could barley hear anything at all. Maintenance calls were always answered and fixed the next day. Gym, pool, yoga room, club room all awesome. Even though I didn’t participate in much, They always have little events going on. Chair massages, game nights, holiday parties, charity events, Panera breakfast. We totally got spoiled with this place, so it will be hard to compare it to the next place.

My husband and I have now lived at Cameron Court for two months, and I must say that we are very pleased.
The apartment model we live in (the Madison) is incredibly spacious. Our building and neighbors are all very courteous. Thus far, all of our encounters with the office staff and maintenance have been top notch. They are helpful, friendly, and efficient. We have had a couple minor maintenance requests and those were all addressed very quickly. Our utility bills have been quite reasonable, too. (Granted, we’re careful about adjusting the temp when we leave, and turning off lights, etc.) If you return home late at night, parking can be difficult, but not impossible.
Overall, we would not hesitate to recommend giving this place consideration in your apartment search.

Fantastic apartment complex. The apartments are really clean and spacious. Maintenance responds regularly and on time. It’s really quiet and the leasing staff is quite accommodating. The pool and the gym is well maintained and kept clean by staff. Trash is simply picked up at your door which is really convenient. Additionally, there is plenty of parking and its a safe area. The leasing staff throws parties and has regular yoga classes. The dog park is nice as well.

I have been here for a little over 6 months, and can honestly say i really like it. Yes, this property is expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. I have lived in cheaper places and none compare to Cameron Court. Staff is exceptionally helpful and courteous, the grounds are well maintained, its quiet and safe. Of course there are some negative aspects, like there are at any rental, but i can say these negatives are minor and far less than anywhere else I have lived in the DC area. As far as some of the complaints on here, i believe that if you want things done your way then you have to buy otherwise you have to realize you are one of several 100 residents and need to be patient. I personally think Cameron court does a great and timely job of responding to any issues.

I have lived here for a year and it has been very pleasant! I did not live here under Avalon so I can’t comment on that. I knew about the fees but still opted to live here because it’s still slightly cheaper than other places in the area. Do I like paying $ 35 for trash? No (especially since they don’t pick up Friday or Saturday) — I think if that changed it would make this place even better.
I never had a major problem with my apartment and anytime I sent in a maintenance request, it was under a 24 hour turn around. Staff is always friendly and helpful and even when I had a billing question after not renewing my lease (for reasons that had nothing to do with living here) they were still helpful and friendly.
The amenities are great and they built a new grilling area next to the pool which I have enjoyed a lot. There’s also a grill right out my front door — which is awesome. I live on the east side of the complex and have almost never heard the trains, but I’m also not in a building directly next to them. The noisiest thing I have had to deal with are the ac (I think they’re ac?) units that are next to the building — they make it so I couldn’t sleep at night with the windows open.
Unfortunately, another reviewer was right and the windows are not well insulated. This was bad both in the summer when my bedroom was easily 5 degrees warmer and in the winter when it was easily 5 degrees cooler.
Overall though, I have had a good experience here and will miss living here.

I recently moved from Cameron Court to downtown Washington D.C. and have had a little time to reflect on my experience in the community and in dealing with management.
I want to start with the positives. The pool, gym, and business center are all quite nice. Great amenities. The staff are usually friendly and polite.
Unfortunately, this does not compensate for the negative aspects of renting from Cameron Court. At one point, our dishwasher broke and was coughing up sour-​smelling water from the garbage disposal. We had to ask them to repair it NINE times over the course of two months before they did anything about it. And even then, it was only because we threatened to have it replaced ourselves and offset the rent. The situation was only slightly better with other repairs. The maintenance staff seemed pretty competent, so it was a little confusing as to why there was such reluctance to perform significant repairs and replacements.
Once, my car and apartment keys were taken from the gym. I asked the front office if they could send out an e-​mail or put up a single flier on the gym door to let gym users know that someone grabbed the wrong set of keys. The actual response was, «That’s a lot of work and would probably bother some residents.» Again, it wasn’t until I mentioned that there was potentially significant liability for them if the person who had those keys decided to steal my car or break into the apartment that they finally did anything.
Finally, both my roommate and I had housing opportunities that presented themselves before the lease was up. In the first week of February 2014, we both went down on two separate occasions to talk to the front office. We said that we would like to move out the last week of March, as opposed to May 15^th, and that we understood this was 6 weeks prior to the termination of our lease. We volunteered to find someone to replace us and move in April 1^st and sign a new lease with Cameron Court. The front office smiled and reassured us that we didn’t have anything to worry about, and that there had been a lot of interest in our apartment already. They told us they were going to make every effort to have someone sign a new lease that began on April 1^st. We smiled and shook hands and everyone went on their way. As it turns out, a few days before we turned over the keys at the end of March, Cameron Court found new renters and told them that the old renters (us) were moving out, but that no new leases would start until ours expired. After telling us how easy it would be to fill our apartment earlier than the expiration of our lease, Cameron Court immediately turned around and intentionally entered into an agreement that maximized the amount of money we would owe them while minimizing the amount of work they would have to do.
I don’t mind being told «You signed a contract and we’re going to bleed you for every dollar we can.» What bothered me the most was the lies and deceit behind convincing us to move out early so that they could continue to collect a rent check without having to do any work at all.
The Bottom Line: Cameron Court wouldn’t be a terrible place to live as long as nothing ever went wrong. If nothing in your apartment ever needs repairs, no one ever takes anything of yours from the common areas, and you never once need to talk to the front office or have them go out of their way to do anything, you should be okay. But for the price you pay to live here, that’s a pretty big gamble to take.
I do not recommend living in this apartment complex.

Bozzuto ruined this community. If you are thinking of being a resident, know that they’re goal is not to provide a community but to nickel and dime you for every last penny. :(
Your rates will change based on the weather, they’ll charge you for replacing clean carpet (off white — what evil apartment complex installs off white carpet), and they’ll try every last trick to encourage residents to pay more (reserved parking, etc.).
The staff is nice and friendly and locked into enforcing the shifting and schewed policies.
Another warning — the windows are terrible, units are very poorly maintained and insultate and as a results, tthe HVAC units struggle to perform in the summer. The flip a switch in the summer (before we moved in) and then when the cold came and the heater did not work, it took two days to get the unit serviced and the switch to get noticed. You would think such practices would be part of a scheduled maintainance plan
If you rent a unit on the western side of the complex, the trains are extremely noisy. It will make you never want to open your windows. Be warned.
The pool is nice though they feature the most arbritrary rules ever (I know because I looked up the code of the City of Alexandria that governs community pools and they are not there).
The entire culture of milking money and covering their ass which is not what the stock photos and fancy websites represent. I’ve rented in many types of complexes throughout my life and this experience was the most frustrated, costly, and least rewarding of my renting life. I would avoid this company and this location.

In response to the other reviews, we did not live there under Avalon’s management, so i can not write a review comparing the two management companies. However, my dealings with Bozzuto management team have been good. The check processing fee, and the trash fee where known to us, in fact, the door side trash service was one of factors that lead us to chose the complex.
The trains are loud, but not a really surprising as the tracks are visible from the property.
As to the things that management can control, we had one misunderstanding with management, which was about our dogbeing allowed to live there. The the agent told us he could when we signed the lease. Then when we went to add him a different representative misunderstood and told us he wouldn’t be allowed. This did cause a great deal of stress and concern until it was rectified the next day by the property manager. Her actions to quickly clarify and rectify the misunderstanding were greatly appreciated.
The common areas, are clean, the club house is clean and pleasant. If you do you homework before living there, and know that you will hear the trains and familiarize yourself with the area prior to moving in, I think you will truly enjoy living here.

Thank you to Emily for your Cameron Court review. We just moved out last month, and experienced all the same problems you described. The three years we lived there under Avalon were fine (although the trains were horribly loud — I do not miss them).
Bozzuto failed completely in their takeover. The «notes to residents» were extremely defensive and much too late to be effective. Particularly strange were their added fees and added water/​sewer bill. One month they silently added these to the rent bill with no reason given and no prior communication to warn residents this would happen. Then, two months later, they took it off again, then subsequently a month later, put it back — all with no communication.
They are also incapable of pro-​rating your bill, so that when we moved out it seemed as if we owed far more in rent than we actually did.
They cannot even read or understand simple instructions. Once, a neighbor needed her new Smartrip Card, and Bozzuto sent it over to our building instead (a completely separate building with a different address).
Charging for «valet» trash services which we never used, and being unable to opt out of them was also ridiculous, and of course, as Emily mentioned, the crass money-​grabbing ploy of «reserved» parking spots was the capper. Several residents in my old building had to face coming back from grocery shopping and having no available places to park, and then having to either walk from far away spots on the other side of the complex with heavy groceries, or double park and risk towing, when perfectly good parking spots are empty.
I realize these are stupid first-​world problems, and wouldn’t complain about them except that they grew out of an artificially-​created scarcity, one clearly created only for profit. When comparing Avalon to Bozzuto, there’s an obvious lack of management acumen. Do not rent from Bozzuto!
The only good side of the Bozzuto takeover was the actual maintenance staff — the folks who did the actual work on the ground — these people were better than the previous Avalon staff. The woman in charge of the maintenance crew is very smart, and she and her team installed a new garbage disposal in mere minutes, fixing a problem that Avalon had never been able to fix. Any issues with maintenance requests that I had after Bozzuto took over were always a result of bad communication between the management office and the team on the ground. It was far more effective to simply walk downstairs to the maintenance shed and communicate directly with them, without going through the central office.
I am glad to be living in Washington instead of Alexandria. I don’t miss the trains or the management!

The quality of Cameron Court has gone down tremendously since Bozzuto took over from Avalon. We’re now on our second lease term, and wish that we hadn’t re-​signed with Bozzuto, but timing of other events made it easier for us to stay. I would highly recommend choosing another property not managed by them, even if you have to pay more.
Management communicates very poorly with residents — the newsletters we receive usually accuse residents of wrongdoings and provide little information about what’s going on with the property (i.e. fixing a parking gate that’s been broken for months) and conclude with, «If you’re not VERY SATISFIED with living here, please let us know!» They FAIL at communicating effectively — there have been many complaints about this, as we all got letters in our doors recently saying, «We realize that residents feel that we have not been communicating adequately»…
They decided to block off a number of parking spaces for «reserved spots» in «prime locations» around the lot. Where parking was open and free before, the number of available spots are reduced now, and you must pay $ 50/​month for these «premium spots» — clearly a money-​making scheme by Bozzuto. They put up signs in the lot saying you’d be towed for parking there — then sent out an email a week later saying you could still park there. Highly annoying.
The manager of the property — Maureen — is particularly rude and unhelpful. She takes forever to respond to emails, does not return calls, and is defensive when you ask about fixing something on the property. Current residents should work with ANYONE ELSE besides her.
They also added a monthly «rent processing fee» when they took over — for what? No communication that this was happening — just started showing up on our bill. They have an online pay option, but you must pay $ 10 to use a credit card — ridiculous when so many transactions are done online safely without this fee!
The gym has also been poorly maintained since Bozzuto took over. AC is low, machines are not cleaned and kept up to date. Water fountains are not cold.
I really hate being under Bozzuto’s management — would not recommend to anyone considering this as a possible future home.
We also have had issues with picking up packages from the leasing office — the management office is supposed to email you when a package arrives, but we’ve had to call to inquire about packages or go into the office to follow up on packages multiple times. Often, we receive a delivery confirmation notice from the company we bought from and can see that it’s delivered, but never get any notification from the office.
However, the apartment themselves have been fine — no major issues except for some weak water pressure that management fixed. Noise isn’t bad in our apartment, either, although I’ve talked to other residents who say the noise from the train is pretty bad.
Pet fees, like most other living communities in the area, are high — $ 500 non-​refundable fee per pet when you move in (NOT a deposit, just a flat fee), plus $ 50 a month per pet in pet rent.
I would suggest looking elsewhere for an apartment — definitely more cons than pros.
