History
Established in 1996.
Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear was invented by a runner who sought to relieve his own impact-related injuries. The first Z-CoiL store opened in Albuquerque, NM, in 1995, and in no time dozens of devoted customers around the country began signing on as independent Z-CoiL dealers, eager to bring to others the same amazing pain relief they had experienced themselves. Now Z-CoiL shoes are sold at over 250 retail locations across North America!
Meet the Business Owner
Alvaro G.
Business Owner
Like the coils in the heels of the springy shoes he invented, 80-year-old Alvaro Z. Gallegos has experienced plenty of ups and downs in his life, but he keeps on bouncing back.
Born and raised in a poor farming area in southern Colorado, Al was used to hard work, and knew how to fix anything on his grandfather’s farm with a few nuts and bolts and some baling wire.
After serving in the Air Force as a jet fighter pilot, Al settled into northern New Mexico, opened a retail store, married and had 8 children. When his wife died unexpectedly, he took up running to stay in shape for his kids. Then impact-related injuries began taking taking their toll, and he started to dream of a solution: «If I had springs on my shoes, I could really fly,» he thought.
It took 20 years to develop a spring shoe that also offers support — like shock absorbers in a car – but now hundreds of thousands of customers are getting their lives back, thanks to Al Gallegos.
