Clean if somewhat shabby around the edges. Great price, one of the cheapest in the area. And the staff are super helpful and friendly. Solid bargain.

have stayed at the university lodge numerous times on my way from dallas to flagstaff — very quiet, very cheap and close to great food. would recommend this place to anyone needing a quick and cheap stayover in albuquerque. they also have wireless internet

BEDBUGS
From the street, the University Lodge looks charming and homey. I was planning to go to Motel 6 that night, but then, driving by the Lodge, I had an impulse to have a more quirky local experience, and so I stopped by. I ended up paying for two nights in a room without looking at one (I arrived around ten am, and the lady at the desk told me that the rooms where «all being cleaned». Once I paid, however, my room was somehow miraculously immediately ready).
Upon entering the room, I immediately felt like staying there was a mistake — dingy, musty, weird blotches on the furniture and floor. Oh well — I had already paid. And then when I pulled back my bedcover in the afternoon and saw hair and skin detritus in the bed, that was gross, but I still felt I could live with it. But when I came back from an evening with friends and within five minutes saw (and squashed) ten adult and juvenile bedbugs scooting around the pillow and bed, well, that’s when I packed up all my stuff as fast as I could and hightailed it to the nearest Motel 6 for the night.
I came back the next day (after washing in hot water all my clothes that had been on the bed) and demanded a refund. The woman was at first unpleasant, and then softened and was friendly and apologetic. Apparently, they had housed a homeless guy and his dog in the room before I moved in — times were tough, and the government reimbursed them. She said that they had tried to bomb any rooms where they found them, but, well, bedbugs are tenacious. Anyway, she cancelled my second night reservation, but would not refund me for the first night. So it goes.

Unless you like BEDBUGS, avoid this place like the plague! I stayed one night, got 15 bites, and now I’m hoping like the dickens they haven’t caught a ride home with me! Check the national bedbug registry to see all the complaints. It’s a shame, because otherwise it’s a cheap hotel right in the heart of a cool neighborhood. Bed Bug removal is costly, which is why I guess the owners don’t want to deal with it.
