Thunder Road Steakhouse and Cantina

Service and food unacceptable. Bartender not attentive. The steak was good but my sides were cold. I asked for new sides and she brought me back a hot plate with my sides which indicated my food was heated in a microwave! (Hot on the outside but cold on the inside.) I asked for my bill and a glass of water and she gave me the bill but forgot the water! I had a good experience my first time here with the gentleman last week, but this 2^nd experience has completely turned me off from ever entering this establishment. The live band was nice to listen to. Some people are just not natural bartenders.

Made the drive out for what was built up as great steaks, it was not close. None of the 3 dishes we ordered were cooked to order. It took so long to get the plates it wasn’t worth sending back the food, to wait longer. (Mind you it is a Thursday night). None of the sides were seasoned either. Not worth the drive or the price.
Not happy at all.

The good: Service — the service is quite good here. Friendly, on point but unobtrusive.
The so-​so: The house margarita. It’s okay but just okay. The mix needs work and the alcohol pour is light.
The much-​better-​than-​expected: The chicken tacos. Very flavorful chicken cooked correctly, excellent corn tortillas, very good beans and rice on the side — and well priced.
The really-​needs-​improvement: All the salsas. ALL of them. A salsa bar is nice — but the salsas need to be worth the trip. They’re not. They range from just passable to just okay.

Food was very good, excellent service. I ordered the steak and lobster I was so happy my loster wasn’t over cooked. They have excellent drinks. The wait time wasnt long at all. But everyone was at the all you can eat seafood buffet which was our original chioce but the lung was just outrageous and we had a concert to get to. The only issue I have is that they were slow getting our drinks.

Jessica was my server. Very friendly, very attentive, great service from the moment I sat down! Very cute, too! (Love the boots!)

House Salsa
Thick, not chunky. Nice flavor, good burn.
Salsa de Hidalgo
Slightly chunky, pleasant flavor, great late burn! It’s a mixture of jalapeños, and green habañeros, and the oil it’s blended with gives it a yellowish color. Really amazing!
Roasted Salsa
Thick and chunky, with visible tomatoes and jalapeños. Nice flavor, and mouth feel and texture, great burn.
Black Bean Salsa
Good amount of black beans, large chunks of onion, and tomatoes, as well as smaller chunks of jalapeños. Nice flavor, moderate burn.
Would go with other choices.
Chipotle potato salad
Kinda bland, even as far as potato salad goes. Slight bite on the back of my throat after swallowing, but not something I’d order.
Green Chili con Carne
A lot of beans. Excellent flavor, nice burn, great finish. Would gladly order this as a meal. Would be amazing with jalapeño corn bread!
Handmade tortillas
Thicker than typical tortillas, soft, nice flavor, great texture. I could eat these by the dozen! With butter and guacamole!

Ribeye, medium
Perfect temp, great grillmarks, amazing flavor, with just enough burn to make it enjoyable
Elote (Corn, Cotija cheese, Cayenne pepper, cilantro)
Sooooooo good! Roasted corn on the cob is always better, but the Cotija, and cilantro push this into epic territory!
Chile Mashers (mashed potatoes with butter, garlic, green chile)
Great flavor, perfect texture and mouth feel, wonderful bite!
All this was paired with Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen, because sadly they did not carry Pacifico.
Given the quality of the meal, the price is very reasonable. I also had several draught beers.

Great service from Jessica & the prime rib was outstanding! We all enjoyed our meals, T-​bone steak, shrimp tacos & hamburger. I mentioned to Jessica that the shrimp tacos could have had 2 corn tortillas each so that they held together better but the taste was great. The hamburger was the only disappointment… a little dry and seemed precooked. The salsa bar was very good! And the margaritas were fabulous!
