Sunwest Trust offers escrow servicing on any contract between two or more parties. Bring in your Real Estate Contract, Note & Mortgage or Promissory Note and we will keep all the records and ensure that both parties are abiding by the terms of the contract.

We also act as custodian for Self-​Directed IRAs. Sunwest Trust will allow you to invest your retirement account in anything not specifically prohibited by the IRS. Invest your IRA in real estate, private stock, gold, LLCs, etc.

If you are a self-​employed business owner with no full time employees, you may be eligible to set up one of our i401(k)s. With an i401(k), a small business owner can enjoy the same benefits that large corporations have had for years.

We are also proud to announce that beginning in October 2010 we will offer Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs).

History

Established in 1987.

Sunwest Trust, Inc. began as a small escrow company called First Financial. In an office with only one employee and no escrow accounts, First Financial Escrow opened for business. First Financial quickly gained a reputation for being honest, hardworking and fair. Throughout the course of the next ten years, the company grew by accepting new accounts and purchasing small escrow companies in and around Albuquerque.

In 1997, First Financial purchased all of the escrow accounts from Sunwest Bank. In September of 1997, Sunwest Escrow, LC opened as a combination of the accounts serviced by First Financial and those of Sunwest Bank. The merger allowed them to move out of their small office space and into a building of their own.

I started my business career after getting my degree in Accounting from the University of New Mexico in 1983. My first job was as controller for a local title company and in 1987 I started First Financial Escrow, Inc. Over the years I played a part in several startup companies including First Financial Equities, Inc., First Financial Trust, Inc., First Financial Marketing, Inc. and Asset Ventures, Inc. In 1997 First Financial Escrow, Inc. was able to purchase the escrow accounts from Sunwest Bank and changed its name to Sunwest Escrow. As the market changes Sunwest has grown and changed along with it and today is Sunwest Trust, Inc. Besides my wife, Sheila and my three boys and now one daughter-​in-​law, Sunwest Trust is my passion and I enjoy coming to work every day to see what will happen next. I have been married 28 years and enjoy fly fishing, motorbike riding and watching my boys play soccer.
