Established in 1985.

Solarius Spa, originally known as Sun Center of America, was founded by Scott Bushey in 1985 with a vision of enhancing the guest experience, the enlightened application of light. Providing convenient, comfortable and innovative sun tanning technologies, Solarius Spa was the first of its kind and continues today to lead the industry with innovative services, beautiful facilities, and an unmatched guest experience.

Hard to believe what started as a way to pay my own way through school at the University of New Mexico in 1985, ultimately became my passion for the last 30 years. I strive for authenticity in all areas of my life including my business. I am true, honest, loyal, hard working and love people from all walks of life.

I read constantly, am involved in many hobbies including motorcycling, cars, and design. I am a foodie and so I’m often found in local restaurants with my lovely girlfriend Cici enjoying the fare and atmosphere. We travel as much as possible experiencing the world and bring our finds back to the business for all to enjoy.

I am a believer in love, light, laughter and higher purpose in serving others with an emphasis on personal growth and empowerment.

I recently went to Solarius for a spray tan before a winter vacation in the Caribbean. Located in a partially vacant strip mall on the southwest corner of Tramway and Montgomery, Solarius is high-​end, well apportioned, beautifully decorated facility, with nice lighting and sound design. It was quite refreshing and surprisingly welcoming and peaceful. The place is also extremely clean, well staffed and outfitted. They had many private rooms with various tanning beds, light and water therapies. The spray tan room was well supplied with everything needed to get a really nice, long lasting tan with good color. The best part of the experience was working with Angela. She was extremely friendly, professional, and went well out of her way to explain the equipment, the difference from other spray tans and salons in terms of quality and process, and then discussed every step of the process for before, during and after the tan, all to ensure that I received the best result. It all went extremely well and I was quite pleased with the result. I followed the instructions to a tee and used the recommended products I purchased to extend the life and color of the tan. The tan lasted longer than promised – taking me well into the time that a natural tan developed after days of laying out on the beach – and the color was genuine. Additionally, Solarius offers for sale other beautiful, very high-​end items, such as sunglasses, accessories, and candles. Albuquerque is very lucky to have this hidden gem and I look forward to returning for a little color before our own flip flop season.

The service alone gets this place five stars, before we even get into the quality of the equipment, the pristine cleanness of the beds and facility and the outcome of your tan!
I have the membership, and use all of the services. The red light lamp helps my mood and is supposed to help with my collagen (I just started). The hydration pod is heavenly. Steam and color and relaxation. All of the tanning beds have refrigerated air and I’ve upgraded (for a nominal fee) to the new spray tan booth. It’s great as there is no smell! I was ok with the scents added to the Mystic (which is included in this membership), but love this option when I have a date because I can shower and not smell like spray tan much sooner. You know, it’s the little things… And speaking of little things, having a fresh, cool glass of water waiting and a little chocolate and towel in every room. Pure heaven.
There is no tanning service like this in Albuquerque, whether or not you decide to do just the spray tan, or everything. Top quality, spa-​like atmosphere and service.

I’m glad that I stumbled across this tanning salon that is appropriately considered a spa. As you ring the doorbell, you will be greeted by the always friendly and smiley staff. The ambiance is modern and fresh and posh! You will love the well thought out small details that make this experience very unique. There is a drink station with refreshing infused water with coffee and tea options. There is always a nice towel with chocolate waiting for you in your well designed private room. Tanning beds are top of the line and comfortable. It is very difficult for me to tan in natural or indoor tanning, as I’m a pasty German Irish freckled fair skin gal… after only 5 visits, I’m already showing a nice base tan… and will have a perfect tan within the next few visits! I’m connected with several networking groups… and will be referring this spa to all my connections! Great job, guys!

Perfect service, great experience. High quality products and they make sure that every detail is attended to. Beautiful surroundings. Great people. Yes, you can get a ‘tan’ anywhere, but this is an experience.

Do not get a spray tan from here if you can only afford one coat ($ 33.) Because it will come out streaky if you get in your car and sweat a little. I followed all the directions. And I had my AC full blast but it’s 95 degrees so I don’t know how to prevent myself from sweating at least a little bit otherwise. And if you can’t prevent yourself from sweating, the spray tan will be more concentrated in other areas and will look splotchy.
I called to come get if fixed and they said yeah come on in, and once I got there they said my charge is another $ 33 which I was not told over the phone. And then later, they revealed to me that most people have to do 2 sprays before they are satisfied? So apparently if you are unsatisfied about the way it looks, they do nothing to try to «redeem» themselves. They even kind of made it sound like it was my fault for sweating or something. And its like, sorry i stepped outside? Yeah, thanks for telling me that in the beginning. $ 66 total for a spray tan? Some of you might think it’s worth it, but not me.
So i drove 25 mins out of my way for nothing and will most likely not be returning.

I love this place! Very beautiful, upscale, and extremely clean. The beds are amazing as well. I’ve never been to a better tanning salon. They are a bit pricey, but definitely worth what you pay.
Scott and Angela are very knowledgeable of their services, and they are super friendly! They take the time to try to get to know each of their clients. Don’t be intimidated by the place (as I was when I first went), just walk in and ask for some information! They will give you a tour of the whole place and tell you what they are all about.

I went in for a spray tan (or two) and came out pleased and bronze. Solarius is an extremely clean, upscale, and beautifully decorated salon. Camille helped me and she was super-​friendly. I would recommend this tanning salon over any other in Albuquerque. I have been to a few, yet always return to Solarius.

I love Solarius!
It’s $$ but it’s so worth it. The staff is sooooo friendly, the beds are pristine, there are always chocolates, teas, water. And I always look tanner coming out. Obviously, one would hope, but I feel like they sell the right creams and lotions with the right bulbs and beds.
