Shiprock Trading

I just bought some fabulous jewelry at a place called Shiprock in Albuquerque, NM in Old Town. The lady that buys all the jewelry for that store seems to have very good taste. They specialize in Southwest style jewelry and only buy directly from the jewelry artists. All of their merchandise is hand made by southwestern artists in the nevada, arizona and new mexico areas. Price ranges for earrings range from $ 150 to $ 2000+. These jewelry pieces do not have diamonds but usually a combination of precious stones and metals… all hand carved, shaped, assembled and polished. The money goes into the individual workmanship. Each piece is unique in that a general style may be common but the assembly and types of stones and arrangements are all different.
They also do estate sales. The collection filled two large display cases. Jewelry pieces were handmade in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s by native americans. All the silver pieces had a wonderful patina. Most of those were turquoise and silver but very interesting designs, not like the junk that is sold today.
Overall, if you want unique and handmade jewelry, this is definately a place to stop by.
