Grapevine is located just east of San Mateo on Central and right in the vicinity of Pep Boys and Café Da Lat. My wife and I have come here on a few different occasions when looking for furniture for our apartment and, having had luck with several antique stores in the city, thought this place might be worth a whirl. Now, first off, it’s not an antique store, although it certainly looks and feels like one. It turns out that the owner specializes in liquidating houses and so some furniture here is used. Other stuff is tagged as new, yet considering this guy’s business and the appearance of things, it’s really hard to know what the heck you’re getting. Still, my wife and I found a couch set here, one two-seater and one three-seater, that were right in our budget and looked nice enough and by all indications were brand new. The price was pretty damn good as well, with both coming in at $ 400 — including a $ 50 discount we negotiated with the owner. Add to this that the owner had a guy deliver them to our house immediately after the purchase for only $ 20 and we were content. We returned recently and didn’t find anything appealing or worth our money and that seems to be what you can expect here. It’s very hit-or-miss and it’s really tough to know what you’re getting. Plus, you have to overcome the questioning of your own morality for potentially buying someone’s reposessed furniture. If you do go, you may find some nice dressers or a good and reasonably-priced couch, so it might just be worth the trip.
