Explora Science Center & Childrens Museum

Love taking my daughter (and husband for that matter) here. The toddler time is great on Monday mornings. It’s such good play based learning. Staff is very nice. I love the different temporary exhibits.

This is a longtime favorite of our family, and we recently caved and got an annual membership here when we decided to host our four year old son’s birthday party here.
First, the regular exhibits: we always love the experiments, including the forced-​air beach ball levitation, the water flow exhibit (which attracts as many 30+ year old kids as the real kids), the bubble-​making station, and the always popular ball-​rolling contraption and the fountain. These get as much amazement on the 39^th time through as the first.
The birthday event is also highly recommended. For $ 300, you get two full-​time staff members who are dedicated to face painting, a science experiment of your choice, serving pizza, cake, and goody baskets, and helping you take notes on who gave what presents. Plus, the most important part, clean-​up! We felt spoiled and the kids and parents had an absolute blast. Food, cake, ice cream, goody bags, and attendance for all kids and parents is included. We definitely felt like we got our money’s worth and our son was so excited about his experience. We are considering having his party there next year.
Great place, with great events. They also offer a parents’ night out for $ 35 a kid ($ 10 for each additional sibling) for dinner, playtime, and structured activities. That’s next on the list!

We love this place! Lots of activities and hands on fun for kiddos of all ages. There is so much to do. I feel like we find something new to explore every time we come. Great environment!!! And the yearly membership is awesome too.

We’ve been to a few Children’s museums in the past few years and call the one in Chicago our home base. However, this one was easily one of the best with a wide range of well executed station activities, a lot of science and explanations, and a good flow to it all. A must visit when in ABQ with a family and/​or kids of any age. Reasonably priced as well is a bonus.

This place was amazing, simply amazing. My two year old wandered and explored his way into a mid-​afternoon coma when we were in town for a medical seminar my wife had to attend.
There were exhibits for water and air with different practical exercises in aerodynamics and water flows; upstairs was a really cool display with organ pipes, fog horns and different drums from around the world. Your kids will love this place.

Most of our visit was in the little person area – kind of a concentrated playpen with balls and other sensory items fit for our baby to handle. It was a safe and engaging experience for our baby with enough room for parents to supervise.
We wandered about the rest of the space rather quickly, only stopping longer for the adults to play with bubbles on the second level. All the staff we encountered were engaging and polite and eager to demonstrate an activity or to provide directions to specific spots.
This was my first children’s museum experience, and it was one that I rather enjoyed. What a gem Albuquerque has for kids and parents!

I have nothing bad to say about this place! I wish we had one in our town. It us great for kids of ALL ages even those considered adults. We had a great time with our 4-​yr old. Never got bored.

We visited explora last week and my 2 year old had a blast running around and exploring all of the different area’s to play in.
There is so much to see and do that we could of easily spent the entire morning here but we only stayed a couple of hours and didn’t get to see half of what was there.
I wish we had known that the outdoor play area had picnic tables because we would of definitely packed a picnic lunch and ate there like we saw so many other people doing.
We will be back explora… my little guy really enjoyed him self… and if im honest so did i.

We were visiting ABQ and decided this is a great way to spend the day. 5 hours later and my daughter still didn’t want to leave. Her favorite parts were the bubble table and giant building blocks on the roof. I loved the topography thing at the front and the water experiments. Even after 5 hours we still didn’t get to see every exhibit. Also has a cute gift shop with fun stuff like finger print kits, model planes, puzzles, chemistry labs etc…
Totally worth the money.

We attended the NYE masquerade party here and had a great time. They had the museum and planetarium open as well as all the activities and exhibit areas open. We had a great time exploring the museum while navigating the dance floors, and counting down the new year.

This place was way more than I expected! There were so many activities available for kids and one day isn’t enough to see/​touch/​play/​experiment with everything! Sections are separated according to elements like wind, light, water, etc and everything is hands on. Even I had unexpectedly had so much fun! There were downstairs and upstairs with lots of sitting space for parents, hand washing stations, paper towels, etc that parents need. I will definitely come back again. Highly recommended for kids itty bitty to teens

This museum was awesome. Don’t let the children in the name fool you. This place is great for adults too. We went with three adults and no kids and had a blast! It is a very hands on place and if you had kids, they could definitely stay entertained all day in here! It was kind of embarrassing that as adults, we would just walk up to something and were not able to figure out how it works but a kid could walk up and show you in about two seconds exactly what to do!!! Fun place!

definitely something fun to do when in albuquerque. our kids LOVED it. the elevator is huge & so fun. there was a whole art area that kept the kids occupied for over an hour {the adults enjoyed it as well}

This is an awesome kids museum that will entertain the adults as well. We have yearly membership and my kids never get sick of this place.

As science museums for kids go, this is one of the best I have ever visited and I have been to more than I care to say. Highly recommended as a stop if you find yourself with kids (or not) in Albuquerque. Plan on 4 – 5 hours. This place is loaded with great stuff for them to do!

Super fun place for kids. Our daughter is almost 2 and she enjoyed the bubbles and the toddler play room the most. Most of the other exhibits are probably more appropriate for kids a few years older than her. But we still had fun exploring.
I wish they had a café here so that we could have taken a break for lunch. They do allow you to leave and re-​enter on the same day,. But the convenience of staying there would have been nice.

Really cool place for kids. You will soon find out that as an Adult you will love this place too. Amazing hands-​on stations and demonstrations. Our daughter had a blast! I found myself wandering off a bit playing with the various attractions. You can’t go wrong here. You can easily spend 2 – 4 hours without even noticing.

I can’t wait until Avery is old enough to enjoy this whole place! As for now, hey have a little tots room and a few open air spaces that are great for kids!

I had never been to Explora and heard great things about it so decided to take the kiddos on a Saturday. I was pretty impressed to see a place like this especially in Albuquerque. This place was really entertaining I think I found it more entertaining than the kids but either way its good for all ages! 2 adults and 2 kids cost 28 bucks which really isn’t bad considering you can spend hours here.

Terrific children’s museum but they have a couple less tended areas. Come on Explora, that electrical energy room and mechanical engineering area are totally in disarray. Someone needs to own that. You can’t just put a bunch of blocks and marbles and expect the kids to make a chatalet. You can’t just have a light bulb sitting on an apparatus on lame table without any context. This stuff is supposed to allow kids to be successful at experimentation. Check out the Bernoulli beach balls, Great. Check out the water maze, fun. The bubbles? Awesome. The musical instruments… disarray. it’s a total mess. The light exhibits? Really fricken hard. What are we supposed to do?
I’d read those 5 star reviews and get an idea of what’s right. My message is more for the staff. Don’t be slackin in those nether regions, I have a year pass and the cool regions get repetitive after a few months.
