AM Shield Waterproofing

We had a flooding issue in our backyard after our next door neighbor removed all their grass and trees to place pavers down. Every thunderstorm we spent desperately bailing water out of our basement window well to prevent it from flooding the basement, which it had done a couple times. We contacted AM Shield, who came out to give us an estimate. Although another company had commented to us that they were expensive, I think you get what you pay for. This group knows what they are doing.
The salesman George came out and knew immediately where our issue was without us needing to tell him; they had worked on our kind of house before. They needed to dig a trench around the backyard and run it out to the street. He wrote up an estimate and fit us in about 3 weeks later (we were at the peak of summer, so that wasn’t a surprise). They estimated 2 days for the work to be completed. When the workers came (Santo was in charge of the work crew and was excellent), they started digging the trench and so quickly! It even started to downpour in the afternoon and the workers continued to dig between the downpours! Great workers. The foreman came out and consulted with Hugo, who insisted we have additional drainage done around the window well. They seemed very concerned with doing the right job, even though it would take extra manpower. We eventually came to an agreement on the extra work and we are very glad we did. They were able to complete the job in the promised 2 days, even with the rain and extra work.
We have had a few major thunderstorms (flash flood types) since the work has been done and have not had an issue yet with flooding. We can see the area draining quickly to the street and now we can rest well at night when those thunderstorms wake us up!
This company did a great job in delivering on what they promised. You are paying for quality work with them.

They just finished the job for me yesterday, which was to waterproof the walls of my garage which is sunk in to the ground below my house. It took 4 days from the original estimate of 3. I have to say I am very happy with the work.
To start with, their salesman named George was a nice older guy who has worked for them for years. He gave me the lowest quote out of 5. One other contractor never even bothered to get back to me with a quote, which happens all too often. Don’t they need the work? Anyway, I usually don’t go with the lowest quote, but I could find no major issues with them either with BBB or any other ratings websites. So why pay more?
Took only a couple weeks to schedule after putting down my 10% deposit, which was nice. A team of 3 guys showed up a little after 8:30, which was the norm everyday. I think there were 4 guys the other days. Jorge was the team leader and seemingly was the only one who spoke good english. Nice guy also but didn’t talk too much. They dug out one side the first day. The next day, I asked Jorge once they got there if there were any problems and he said no. But later in the day at work George called me and said that after Jorge dug out the other side that he was seeing a lot of holes in the walls and that they needed to put a whole layer of cement on both sides, which would take an extra day and George needed to charge me $ 1000 extra. I questioned this «extra» work, as the contract stipulated that cracks would be patched up before the waterproofing membranes would be placed on. George said that’s right, just «cracks» would be patched, not holes. What??? To him, there was a difference between cracks and holes? Of course there were going to be holes; that’s why water was getting in! Now I was afraid that they might find «recesses», or «indentations», or «fissures» or any other words you can think of describing anything except cracks. But I said to go ahead with it as I figured it would be a nice additional layer of protection and what could I say anyway? But it did bother me that Jorge told me everything was fine in the morning, when he already opened up one side. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I was just hoping this wasn’t going to be a «pattern» of phone calls in the next couple of days with more «surprises».
Anyway, now it was going to be 4 instead of 3 days. I saw that they were constantly working, so I had no complaints. In the end, they refilled the ditches they dug with the original dirt and made sure to stamp it down hard with a couple of pieces of machinery. They also replaced my sprinklers (which I should have tested) and a small tree they moved. I was truly impressed at how well they cleaned up, even raking the grass and cleaning my garage which they did some work in. They were really thorough!
In summary, besides the surprise extra charge, I had a completely pleasant experience. Supposedly I got a 10 year warranty on the work. Hopefully, I won’t update this post for at least 10 years!

Very professional, reasonable pricing, fast predictable execution. They did some waterproofing work on the exterior foundation of our Brooklyn townhouse. The work had to occur in our neighbor’s yard (who was nervous and apprehensive). These guys worked quickly, efficiently and thoroughly — and were unbelievably respectful of our neighbor — restoring their yard to a condition that was BETTER than before the work commenced. The neighbor even asked for their sales number in a desire to hire them for some work on their house. The waterproofing itself was extremely thorough — foundation brick was brushed completely, stucco applied, then a thick tar layer, then a very durable rubber waterproofing membrane sealed at the top with a metal channel. We’ve already noticed a difference in the indoor air quality in the basement — no longer musty or humid. Thanks AM Shield.

After hurricane sandy water in basement just never seemed to go away, we were referred to this company which we feel is honest trustworthy and did an excellent job without charging ridiculous prices. My husband and I are very pleased with the job and company and would absolutely recommend AM shield for basement problems.

Top notch outfit. We were interested in repairing a leak in our basement so we called up AM Shield to check things out and give us a quote. They guy they sent was very helpful and gave heaps of good advice. He also didn’t overdo the salesman shtick and push us sign up for something we didn’t want/​need. After checking out 4 companies for the job, I have to say that I would definitely recommend AM Shield for any sort of basement moisture issues.
