History
Established in 2002.
There is a lot of history in the building more so than our store. We occupy a suite in the Old City Hall building.
1914 was when it was built and was called The Federal Building. It contained the Post Office and some Federal offices.
–1960: Became City Hall with Albany Police Station in basement with city jails. Municipal Court upstairs. Post Office moved to current location There were 4 men’s cells, 2 women’s cells and a juvenile holding cell which was sometimes used as a maximum security cell if needed.
1960: Retrofitted for Bomb Shelter in entire basement. Had separate rooms designated for important city officials. Contained a generator for electricity.
Police Station was moved to current location because Federal government required renovation of jails to make them more humane for the prisoners. Could not afford the expense to renovate.
