There few times before tonight where previous entries here on Unilocal did not directly sway my food decision. Desperately craving Chinese food, I ignored previous negative reviews in favor of convenience. New No. 1 Chinese restaurant is only a half mile from my home so I risked it all, and I am so glad I did. The restaurant had an «Excellent compliance» certificate for cleanliness on the front window, and the interior eating area was spic and span. We got our food to-go, but I will return to eat at one of the booths(there are only two). I ordered broccoli in garlic sauce with chicken for an extra $ 2, but it looks like they changed it to the«Special Szcheuan Style» which included more vegetables(not visible in photo of order form). This was perfectly Ok with me… in fact better! My husband liked his chicken and broccoli in brown sauce. There was no additional charge for hot sauce, like other places. The cashier looked to be the matriarch of the family and she couldn’t find her reading glasses to read the fine-print prices on the order form. We had a good chuckle over that. Really excited to have found a local Chinese place that’s good! They deliver for free for orders over $ 10 and accept credit cards.

I have no idea how this place doesn’t have stronger reviews! I think the food is consistently solid Chinese takeout. My husband and I moved to Delmar and find this to be the absolute best in the surrounding areas. I highly recommend this place for takeout. We love the chow fun, dumpings and General Tso with tofu. The food is always delicious and generous portions.

This is a place to order of last resort. Some of the staff are very friendly and helpful, but others quite rude. When I place an order, something is consistently wrong. Delivery, however, is quick and very friendly.

Convenience, convenience, convenience. This place is seriously convenient. In the time it takes to call, place and order, and drive there… food’s ready. Not the best Chinese I’ve had, but definitely not the worst, either. I don’t feel like my food has been salted or MSG’d to oblivion. Menu is the typical Chinese-American selection. I’ve had the hot and sour soup a few times, even though they make it a bit differently than I’m used to… and it’s passable, but not my favorite. I’ve also tried the steamed veggie dumplings, and those were pretty good(maybe a tad gummy but I like doughy starchy stuff, therefore not a hangup for me…)

New Number One is more of a takeout place than a restaurant. Nothing special, but nothing awful either, just an old standby. When we’re exhausted vegetables after a busy day, we sometimes get delivery from here. Although I do like standing inside waiting for an order, too, especially in the winter when the customers are freezing and the cooks are sweating over the giant woks tossing noodles and scallions, and best of all is the utterly surprised look the counter people give you when you leave money in the tip jar.
