James Melita and Max Smelyansky share a commitment to live and work in New York State. After graduating from law school, James formed his own law practice in Johnstown, specializing in Traffic Defense Law, Criminal Defense Law, Collections Law, & Real Estate Law. Similarly, Max developed his law practice in Albany, specializing in Traffic Defense Law, Personal Injury Law, Landlord /Tenant Law, Family Law & Estate Planning Law.
Both James Melita and Max Smelyansky have spent 100’s of hours practicing law in the various Supreme Courthouses throughout New York State. In 2012, the two met while working on separate cases in Schenectady Supreme Court. Shortly thereafter, they began collaborating on cases with a common goal to better serve their individual clients. Inevitably, they founded Melita & Smelyansky, offering strategic and creative approaches to client representation. Very few lawyers use their time and skill as effectively as they do.

Business Owner
James Melita, who grew up in Gloversville, graduated from Plattsburgh State University of New York with a major in political science and a minor in economics. He then graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan.
After graduating from law school, James Melita formed his own law practice in Johnstown, specializing in Traffic Defense Law, Criminal Defense Law, Collections Law, and Real Estate Law.
Max Smelyansky, who grew up in Bethlehem, graduated from Manhattan College earning a Bachelor of Science with a major in economics. He then graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law, in Maryland.
After graduating from law school, Max Smelyansky developed his law practice in Albany, specializing in Traffic Defense Law, Personal Injury Law, Landlord /Tenant Law, Family Law and Estate Planning Law.
