This is a really nice local toy store… The people who own it are very nice… Check it out…

Now a G. Willikers(apparently it always has been, at least for a number of years, but they were slow about rebranding after having been bought out). There’s a separate Unilocal entry for G. Willikers, for which I have put up a new/updated review, and I’ve contacted Unilocal about the name change and merging the two entries. FYI.

Imaginative, creative and whimsical with the added bonus of a talented and knowledgeable staff, G. Willikers has inspired us with the right gifts for infants to adults and we found the right games to engage everyone at our family functions. Don’t’ miss the opportunity to enjoy this great Toy Store and bring home some goodies for your family.

I love this store! I am mostly an online shopper when I know what I want. This store is wonderful for unique gifts at christmas, when you are shopping for children and don’t know exactly what you want. They have terrific ideas for stocking stuffers(this is my go-to place for that!) and loads of games on display so you can touch and see how they work. They will even play a game with you! The friendly staff know kids and will assist you, not ignore you. They are slighly more expensive than online sources, but when you need it today, they are the perfecr solution!

This is a Yuppy type place with lots of neat and different toys but very expensive. I can imagine it would be a great place for a Grandma and Grandpa to take their youngsters because it looks like it would be a magically fun place for a child to visit.

My wife told me that some bookstores are buying books from Walmart instead of wholesale, because their wholesale prices are more expensive than Walmart’s retail prices. I have a sinking feeling that is what is happening with toys too. There are things the Toy Maker carries that you cannot find in Walmart. Small production toys, Thomas the Tank Engine Wooden Railway, Playmobil, etc. That is what this store is good for. Do not make the same mistake my son made, spending the allowance he saved on a $ 10 pack of Uno cards that we later found at Walmart for under $ 5. Unless of course you are happy to spend the extra money to keep these kinds of stores in business. The kiddo learned a valuable lesson: Let the buyer beware.

Great toys — they don’t seem disposable like so many do and you don’t have to read a manual before you can play with them. Quiet atmosphere. I think it’s family-owned, at least, I usually see the same two or three people there. I can’t promise this, but I’m pretty sure you won’t find any pink plastic there. The Toy Maker, Little Book House just down the way, and Arlene’s Art Supplies on Fuller are my first three stops for kids birthday gifts(or «I Love Books» if I’m out Delmar way) — so that shopping trip is pretty focused and not the mall.
