Futon Express

the store is empty. not even a sign at this address.

Every time I try to go by this place this month, it has been closed. They don’t update their hours on their sign or site. Nobody answers the phone either. I’m tired of trying to figure out when they will be open and taking business elsewhere.

I don’t know where to start. I ordered a futon mattress from this place and was told it would arrive the next Friday. I had guests coming the next weekend and stressed the importance of getting the mattress on time. The woman who helped me said it would not be a problem and promised to call me when the mattress was in.
Well, no call on Friday, so I called them and she said they were waiting for the shipment and would call me when it came in. Now it’s a week after I was supposed to get the mattress (2 weeks after ordering) and after calling about 10 times last weekend and not getting an answer and sleeping on my couch cushions so my guests could sleep in our bed 3 nights last weekend I couldn’t be more dissatisfied. I also want to bring up the fact that we specifically asked her about the holiday weekend and the Bay Bridge closure as issues and she reassured us it would be fine. I also want to note that she never once called me.
I actually pre-​paid with my credit card in hopes of expediting the process and am now trying to contact the store (without success) to cancel my order because I do not want to do business with them.

I came here during my hunt for a replacement futon mattress and frame and was very pleased with how friendly the customer service was!
During my first visit, Joey was very helpful in explaining the differences between types of mattresses as I sat on the various futons displayed throughout the store. He then showed me what their construction looks like (they had demo cut-​outs off to the side showing the layers of foam and types of coils used in the spring mattresses) and explained how they would hold up against frequent use.
He was also kind enough to print out a price quote for me. Originally I was going to purchase the mattress then save up for a frame, but when he learned this he alerted me that buying the set would save me around $ 60 (good to know, because as a graduate student, every penny counts!)
They also have a huge selection of fabrics, patterns, and colors for custom made futon covers!
I didn’t end up buying my futon here, however, because during my second visit, I learned that the wood frames only have a 1 year warranty and that worried me.
But overall, I had a great experience checking out Futon Express and will be back soon to purchase a custom made futon cover!

I bought a whole living room set from Futon Express for $ 750. I chose a hardwood with a dark mahogany finish, and out of the hundreds of fabrics to choose from, I chose a sort of Native American motif in dark earth tones. Their young men delivered the set the same day and assembled everything in my basement rumpus room in under an hour and made sure everything was arranged the way I liked it. The only thing I didn’t like was they wouldn’t take the packing materials with them, so I was stuck with a huge pile of cardboard to deal with.
The furniture itself has been very durable — I later made a modification to the reclining chair by sawing an additional notch that would allow for one more choice in how far it reclined. Man, that wood was HARD to cut! It must be some kind of iron wood! Anyway, now it’s 10 years later, and my furniture is still holding up great — no sagging, wobbling or anything, and the fabric has held up great all this time. Once every coupla years I get down there and tighten up a bolt or two, and that’s it.
It’s really been money way well-​spent, and the owner’s a bang-​up good guy.

Good selection of futons at good prices. I actually bargained with the owner on a living room set and got a pretty good discount on the whole shebang. Full-​size sofa, love seat and reclining chair. The wood used is some sort of tropical hardwood that is REALLY hard and very durable. The finish is high quality and doesn’t scratch easily like cheaper finishes can. The fabric is thick and durable, and so far has held up perfectly. I had many many choices for fabrics and designs and I’m quite happy with both my purchase and with my purchasing experience here.

Absolutely fantastic place. Wife and husband owned, they really know what they’re talking about. Extremely friendly, large selection, great prices, and **very** helpful.
