We have had nothing but positive experiences with the doctors and technichans at Cordinices. We are new cat owners and feel thankful to have our pet in such wonderful hands.

This is the kindest most thorough vet office of any I have ever been too. They are not the cheapest but I always come back for the compassionate bed side and knowledge. Although not the cheapest they are upfront with costs and never try to guilt trip you into care and are flexible with payment plans.
I will never leave this practice again!

We have been bringing our cats to Codornices for over 20 years. We have always been happy with the care they have received. We particularly appreciate the kind and thoughtful care Dr. Gurley has recently given our elderly cat and her willingness to communicate by Email because I am deaf. I would also like to commend Eric for his prompt and helpful response, including at times when the office has been closed.

Codornices is an outstanding veterinary practice in every regard! Over the years we’ve seen every vet at Codornices, and we’ve met most of the staff. The doctors are outstanding — they’re expert diagnosticians, and they provide detailed explanations with options for different levels of tests and treatments. We saw Dr. Gurley for our most recent emergency appointment, and she was, as always, warm, gracious, and very detailed in her explanation of tests and treatments; she followed up with a phone call a couple days later. We’ve also seen Dr. Grant, Dr. Bentley, and Dr. Hack (now retired), and we completely trust our pets with all of these doctors, so we no longer request a specific vet. The techs and the front desk staff are upbeat and supportive, and very professional. I can’t recommend this vet practice more highly than 5 stars, but I would if I could!

Short wait in the waiting room, but left to languish forever in cramped exam room. Vet spent almost no time with us before almost offhandedly prescribing expensive medications.

I think Dr Hack and Dr Grant are great vets who care about pets and are able to give clear information without emotions. Makes it easier to make a decision. There is one vet however that is confusing, sites all possible problems and a myriad of tests to diagnose, and creates way too much confusion and stress. I prefer clear advise based on their professional experience. I would suggest you ask to see Dr Hack or Grant.

I have taken all my pets — dog, cat, guinea pigs, to Codornices and have always been thrilled with their incredible expertise and care. All the doctors and techs are wonderful. Couldn’t be more satisfied!

I found this clinic reading comments on Unilocal.Also a pet food owner in Berkeley recommended this place and they were right. The people who work there including our vet really like animals. Only complaint I have is that the clinic is so busy that sometimes it takes a few days to get an appointment. Another proof that this place is popular…

Absolutely the best care, the best service, and the kindest vets and personnel anywhere. Also the best treats! They were wonderful with my good old dog, Yogi – got him an extra year of pain-​free, happy life – and are stellar at caring for my current pup, Miss Peanut. I love Codornices!

Dr. David Grant is a fantastic vet. He diagnosed my elderly kitty’s issues quickly and when it was time to put her down, he was so compassionate and caring. It helped me so much for him to treat her so sweetly. I will never forget how kind he was during the process.

Having rescued more than my share of dogs, I can confidently say that the vets at Codornices Veterinary Clinic are experts at diagnosing all kinds of diseases and conditions. Dr. Gurley in particular is extremely patient, knowledgable, and skilled in diagnostics, and in conveying the diagnosis in a meaningful way to pet owners.
I think I’ve had appointments with every vet there, and surely every vet tech by now, and even though some of my dogs had some pretty difficult illnesses, each and every one was patient. I don’t mind waiting when another animal has an emergency, or needs a little extra time, so I wouldn’t fault them for anything like that, but for the most part, I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes over my allotted time.
Here’s an example of how skilled staff are: During a routine physical, I asked Dr. Gurley to do fine needle aspirations on several lumps on my 12-​year old Dalmatian (these doges typically live to between 12 – 14). Several came back as fatty lipomas, but one showed cancer cells — and it was the smallest lump. She recommended an ultrasound, which was expensive, but given the one cancerous lump, seemed like a reasonable diagnostic test.
The ultrasound revealed a non-​cencerous tumor in her spleen. While it wasn’t cancer, it would have grown and burst her spleen, causing her to bleed out. It was a simple surgery to remove the spleen, and the single mast cell tumor on her flank. The diagnostics saved her live, and three years later this dog is bouncing around like a teenager. Often times, dogs die «suddenly», when in fact it is usually from something preventable like this tumor in the spleen. So, i credit Codornices Veterinary Clinic with saving the life of my beloved dog.

Not a very clean or efficient office and they’re definitely prepared to run countless tests and bill you lots. Rather friendly and they have been great enrolling my menagerie. I’ve missed a few calls from them because they have blocked numbers.

We have been taking our dogs to Codornices for years, ever since Dr. Grant moved his practice there. We have always had a great experience. Eric at the front desk has always been helpful, responsive and compassionate. We have also had good experience with other front desk people but I cannot remember names. Generally we see Dr. Grant since we love him so much but in a pinch have seen other vets there. Except for a dire emergency when we had to go to Pets Emergency, we have always gotten our scheduling needs met. Dr. Grant is our animal family doctor. We completely trust him medically and with support through palliative care and end of life decisions. We feel very lucky to have Dr. Grant and Codornices close by.

I bring all my animals to Codornices and have always had a good time. The front desk is always helpful.

A couple weeks ago was my first visit here. I moved to the area a couple years ago but had been very bad about researching good vets to take my cat to. The techs and the doctor were all super nice and really great with my cat. They were full of information for all my questions and had really creative ideas for how to tackle problems like weight management for the «little» furball. It was a wonderful experience and I would absolutely recommend them! I don’t have the long-​term opinion to give, but I talked to a few people in the waiting area who all seemed to be long-​term patrons and they had nothing but good things to say.
Edit: I wanted to add that the office is really clean. And I went in asking to get up to date on all the shots. They told me I actually didn’t even need some of them, considering my cat was 100% indoors and didn’t have contact with other animals. They were great about counseling what was necessary or not. One time in Texas, a vet convinced me to do a fecal test and didn’t tell me the cost — they charged around $ 200 and there hadn’t been any indication other than them saying «you haven’t done one before on your cat?». Likely the history of him being adopted from a shelter played a part, but I think this happened long after the adoption and he had zero symptoms. Anyway, I left feeling like surely vets must just be pushing extra testing for the $$…and therefore vet visits weren’t going to be affordable for me. This office renewed my faith that that is not the case at all!

Dr. Grant is the best vet I’ve ever seen. He is clear, personable, compassionate, and very skilled. He has performed two very successful dental surgeries on our 12 year old mixed-​breed and she has been in top shape within days after the surgery both times. He’s also been very nice to us rather than condescending, acknowledging that our dog is prone to dental decay and giving us helpful suggestions to manage her remaining teeth. We’d come here all the time if we didn’t live so far away!

We feel safe and secure with the expert and loving doctors and staff. Our third generation of pets calmly enter the friendly office of Codernices.

Took our golden retriever here once, and the doctors were great. However, my second time, the man at the front desk was so rude, we will never return. Our dog had a problem after hours, and my wife left a message on the voicemail that picks up after hours. We didn’t get a call back, so she called the next morning. The man very very rudely scolded my wife telling her that she should be smart enough not to leave a message on that voicemail box. In reality, if they don’t want people leaving voicemail on the box that answers automatically when they aren’t there, they should be smart enough to set it up right so it doesn’t answer that way.
Too bad, it’s close to home, doctors were nice, but will never go back. The guy was a jerk.

I recently relocated my vet care to the Codornices Clinic and was happy with my first regular check up. Front office staff is nice and the facilities, though outdated, were okay.
Then I needed to bring my dog in for an urgent care appointment as she had a front paw injury that was making her limp. The vet on duty was nice but did not seem very competent. She misdiagnosed the limp– stating it was an allergic reaction and a small cut. When I got home and washed her paw, with the $ 40 shampoo, I found a marble sized cyst between her toes– the real reason why she was limping.
I called the clinic the next day and demanded a recheck at no cost. The person on the phone took my information and told me the office manager would call me back. Two weeks later, after following up with the office three times, the office manager finally called me back. She was very unfriendly and said no way would they do a no-​cost recheck. She said some other passive aggressive comments and said she hoped we’d reconsider continuing care with them– NO WAY.
It’s too bad that money trumps quality care here. I’d recommend taking your pet somewhere where the management respects the customers too!
