Coccadotts Cake Shop

Have not been to the expanded branches just the original Central Ave location. They sell overpriced cupcakes and cakes. Depending on what school of bake you represent will determine whether you like their super sweet style or not.
The purpose of this review is to talk about their sculpted 3D cakes. They are completely awesome. They are very expensive and the creative process and customer service is not the greatest, however the final product will make people lose their minds as a special touch at a party or event.
The bottom line: 5 stars for their 3D sculpted cakes which are expensive and memorable showstoppers.

I’ve given this place a try 3 times, each time I’ve walked away with a not so great experience. Aside from the staff either being rude or unorganized, the cupcakes are good. Not great, definitely not $ 3.50-$ 4.00 a cupcake great. Some of the cupcakes are really solid, some are bland. Some are cloyingly sweet. Some have the right amount of frosting, some have more frosting than cupcake. Some frosting is light, some frosting is too granular. They also sell cookies & cakes. Can’t speak for the cakes, but the cookies are at least way more consistent than their cupcakes. Overall, I walk away feeling annoyed by the amount of money I’ve spent & the dismissive attitude I get from the staff. Unless someone specifically is requesting these sweet treats, I don’t see myself coming back anytime soon

Coccadotts went absolutely out of their way to make the most perfect, memorable and delicious cake for me for my birthday! The staff is always friendly and patient with me as I always have difficult cakes to order. The owners put their heart and soul into the business, and it shows! Thank you for making my birthday so special! I can’t wait to order my thanksgiving pies today and start thinking of a design for my twins 3^rd birthday!

I think their cupcakes are a delicious treat. I am a big fan of the cannoli cupcake and caramel macchiatio cupcake, in particular.
We didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a dessert for a wedding, and were lucky to be gifted with an array of bakery items from my talented aunt, so we went with mini-​cupcakes from Coccadott’s. They were a hit and were presented well. There was a hiccup with the cupcakes not being ready on time when my partner went to pick them up on the day of our wedding; those 15 minutes make a big difference when you have a bunch of other stuff to do that day. But, overall, it was a good choice.

Cutesy local bakeshop with locations in Latham, Clifton Park, Albany (home location), and even Myrtle Beach! Many have heard of their name on the Food Network’s ‘Cupcake Wars’ or had a taste from friends and family’s celebrations and gatherings. Next to a garage, it has built a little empire of frosting shots, hand decorated cookies, cuppycakes, cake shakes, cake pops, pies, buttercream and fondant cakes, and cake balls. There may be more I am missing!
I’ve had both good and not so good experiences with the cakes and cupcakes here, as there have been times they were deliciously moist and satisfied my sweet tooth, and fairly equal times I’ve had dry cake and greasy tasting buttercream that makes it hard to wipe off using a napkin (use more napkins?)
I find most of the cookies heavily frosted and if I were to go on a frosting crave, I’d rather have one of the cupcakes. I like how they have unique flavors for different seasons and holidays. Just don’t get the grape, watermelon, or root beer ones because they are quite artificially flavored to my tastebuds unless you are truly a kid at heart. I like the apple cider donut, plain vanilla buttercream, strawberry champagne, peanut butter dark chocolate, and the OMG! cupcake the most. They carry many cupcakes and cakes made ready to go in store for all your spontaneous needs. Special orders are taken for those who want specific designs and such.
Once a while I come to indulge in sweets but it will not be a frequent thing, as much as I’d like to be induced into a diabetic coma (or not so much). Look for special deals on their Facebook page as they do come in handy!

The family who owns this tows people’s cars then extorts them for money and laughs about it. They are trash and I would not trust them with anything let alone food. Bottom of the barrel.

This quaint little cupcake/​cakes/​confectionery shop stands out like a pink cheery-​on-​top situated in a seemingly desolate and grey strip of stores. Once inside, the bright white and pink light up the the décor of the place. Rows of unique and creative cupcakes line the shelves, and the cashiers are excellent about recommending different tastes. They also offered other pastries such as chocolate chip cookies, Frozen-​themed sugar cookies, scones, etc! Although we didn’t get to try the cakes and such, it was obvious that there were a plethora of options ranging from designs to sizes to specific customizations. Looks like an excellent place for cute birthday/​celebrations!

Coccadotts must have some magic hold on Albany Zombies. I just don’t get it.
Had an orange cream cake here for my birthday, when they first opened. I really liked it. Next year, I ordered the same cake. It was horrible. Tasted like freezerburn and crisco. Tried many of the cupcakes over the last few years — boty by stopping in, and at events. The staff treat you as if the high priced cakes and cupcakes include the additional fee to insult you and treat you as if you should be blessed to have them wait on you.
Whatever they are smoking inside — I WANT SOME! dry, freezer burn cakes. Crisoco frosting (which you can taste and feel all over your mouth), and premium prices, all the while they are attached to a car garage (Get your oil changed while you wait folks). And. .. . they have a line out the door. Bad reviews, and a line out the door. Average to mediocre cakes and cupcakes (with hydrated fats and all kinds of good stuff).. and a line out the door.
I will have what they are having, Please And Thank You!

I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday. I had had a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ experience previously and decided they deserved a second chance. Boy was I wrong.
I sent my mom in pick up the cake, they were rude to her when she asked to take a pic so I could be sure it was correct. I left the cake unrefigerated like they say to. And served it that evening. The cake was dry and crumbled, the frosting was grainy. And the worse thing… there was a hair in the frosting. Needless to say nobody ate the cake. It was actually mixed into the frosting under the fondant ribbon. The shop was closed by this time and I called as son as they opened sunday. I was offered a replacementer which I didn’t accept because the party was over. I was told I would have to wait until Monday for anything else to be done because the owner is not available on weekends. 11 Monday morning I had not heard yet from anyone so I called. I was told the owner was still unavailable and would only be available from 12 – 4. They asked me to bring the remaining cake to the Albany location which I live 45 minutes from so they use it for training purposes. I refused. I didn’t order or buy it at that location and I will drive out of way to return a cake that they ruined. When the owner arrived and I explained to her she proceeded to tell me that unfortunately these things sometimes happen and it wasn’t intentional. I just wanted a refund at this point I had been on the phone already for 45 minutes. The owner was terribly rude, used vulgar language and told me if I have a problem take it to Unilocal.Not to ever patronize her shops again and said I could my friends and family not to either. My sister also had issues with the cake she ordered for my nephew. I told her they would be calling about theirs as well. She said if they do she will trace the number and press charges against US for harassment.
I for one will never order or consume anything from that shop.
In a previous visit I saw a staff member drop a package cupcakes on the ground clean off the package and say good as new.
I am completely appalled by the owners attitude and disrespect. This is how you lose business not gain it.

The biggest issue that I have with Coccadotts is how Hit and Miss it is. It is incredibly frustrating. But when things are good they are good! For sure, the OMG is always great. It has everything you could ever want. Oreoes, peanutbutter, chocolate, and more chocolate. The cannoli flavored and maple bacon were let downs to me. The canoli flavored one tasted to much like almond extract, and the bacon topped one could have benefited with cream cheese icing. Overall… a decent cupcake, but nothing I ever really crave. I just take people here because they won Cupcake Wars.

We used Coccadotts a few years back to make a custom cake for a special party. The customer service was flawless at that time. The cake itself was decorated so beautifully and it tasted as good as it looked. We recently ordered another custom cake from them, and it was a completely different experience right from the start. I called their Central Ave location and the girl told me to email them with the details on what I wanted and that someone would call me back. So I emailed them, and then two days later I got a response saying to call THEM back. I was so frustrated when I saw this. I gave them all of my contact info and as a business, they should’ve called ME! I’m not the one trying to run a business. Keeping my first experience in mind, I called them back thinking maybe there was some sort of miscommunication. When I did, the girl who answered asked me for my information again and then said she had to review my order. WHAT!!! So basically, no one had even paid attention to what I had written??? I was furious at this point. She promised to call me back in 15 – 20 minutes and I never heard back from her. Later I got an email from her saying their phone lines were down. Ridiculous! There were no storms of any sort and I know other peoples phones were working just fine. And of course, they were closing so I knew I wouldn’t be able to speak to anyone that day. The next day I had made up my mind to move on and use another bakery. But the girl actually called me back and so I ended up placing the order with her. There was no «thank you» or apology of any sort by the way.
The only reason I gave Coccadotts two stars instead of one is because the cake was decorated very nicely. BUT this time the cake tasted awful! The buttercream was way too sweet and you felt like you were chewing on sugar. The fillings were no where as good as I remember the first time around. No one asked me where I got the cake from this time and no one got seconds. Bigger isn’t always better and Coccadotts has definitely lost that small business appeal where they treat each customer (and cake) with attention and courtesy. Someone mentioned to me that they have hired a lot of «young» people but that’s still no excuse for the rude and broken customer service. I will not be using Coccadotts in the future after this awful experience.

These are nothing more than mass produced cupcakes that taste like they were baked days ago! Tried several because they were on Cupcake Wars! Lost in the first round! Yup now I know why.

I do not know what all the hype is about. There stuff looks cute but it taste horrible. Dont waste your money.

We ordered my daughters 3^rd birthday cake from Coccadotts.
I emailed a picture for The Little Mermaid. They did an amazing job! Cake looked beautiful. My daughter loved it! Everyone said the cake tasted good too!
Will definitely be my go to bakery for cakes!

A friend brought me to Coccadotts Cake Shop last weekend for some cupcakes. I’d never seen more of the color pink anywhere else in my life. The walls, the (early Valentine’s Day) décor, and even some of the cupcakes were pink!
When you first walk in the first thing you will notice is the many cupcake flavors all perfectly decorated. These were some of the most beautiful cupcakes I have seen before. Some were covered in a gold dust, others in purple sparkles and stars, some with candy lips. Other offerings included whole cakes and cookies also beautifully decorated,
With such a large variety it was so hard to choose but I finally decided on four cupcakes. At $ 10 for four the price was pretty good. Descriptions of the cupcakes and my thoughts below:
There Goes My Diet —
This was the gold dusted cupcake. Supposedly this is the flavor that made them winners on Cupcake Wars but I was not impressed. The chocolate cake lacked depth of flavor, I found the frosting to be confusing (taste) and kind of gummy (weird texture) and the cheesecake center was nothing more than a tiny bead of cheesecake, not unlike the cheesecake bites you’d find at the toppings bar of frozen yogurt shops but probably even smaller than that.
Sex in the City —
This was my favorite of the three I had. Almond cake base was great as was the frosting. The thin layer of raspberry jam was a nice component.
Red Velvet —
This classic is my favorite flavor of all cupcakes. Theirs was lovely in appearances but not enough cocoa flavor in the cake. Cream cheese frosting was good though.
Hot Chocolate —
I gave this one away so I’m not sure how it was but my friend said she enjoyed it.
This place works if you need a treat or dessert that is visually appealing and will provide the wow factor for guests or other recipients, but I found the cupcakes to be average in all aspects other than looks.

This place is very cute inside, sort of reminds me of a Parisian place. They have a wide variety of cupcakes and other treats. So let’s get to the treats.
Oreo cupcake: amazing. The buttercream is perfectly mixed with Oreos and the chocolate cake is very moist. It is not overly sweet, which is perfect. It comes with an Oreo on top too!
Cookie dough: heaven in a cupcake. It comes with cookie dough chunks on top and the buttercream icing actually tastes like cookie dough. The cake was a simple one so it wasn’t overwhelming.
Apple cider doughnut: yum. The cake is perfect. It has cinnamon and apple flavors and it is stuffed with cooked apples. Delicious. The icing was good too.
Turtle: the frosting was my favorite of all. It was a simple vanilla buttercream with caramel nuts and chocolate. The cake was okay but too chocolatey for me.
I definitely will be coming back next time I’m in Albany!

So I enjoyed the cupcake here much better then last time. They were moister and had better flavor!!! Not sure it was because they were very fresh or something. But i definitely liked them!
I think what we liked more then the cupcakes were the cookies, which we did not have last time. The cookies are all very soft which is how we like them… loaded with icing or goodies as well. The jelly like cookies were fantastic. We did not know this place does cookies. We plan on going back just to grab some more sugar cookies with icing!

Everyone in town used to rave about this place when it first was created, and they still do. I’ve had a cake or two from here a few years back and always knew Coccadotts was just all hype, especially seeing them on their little stint on Cupcake Wars (where they were eliminated the first round because their cake was raw inside).
My friend and I decided to go to the actual shop and try a few of their cupcakes in order to give them a second shot. I was highly disappointed.
First of all when you walk in the atmosphere is extremely cookie cutter. It’s like bubblegum exploded everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I love the color pink as much as the next girl but this was excruciating. The girl at the counter was very pushy and came over to my friend and I twice asking us if we were ready while looking over the display of cupcakes. The whole time the staff kept staring at us and it made it very uncomfortable and rushed feeling.
The cupcakes all looked beautiful I’ll give them that. They have wonderful decorations however they were too girly. None of the cupcakes would be enjoyed by a boy or for a father. Even a simple vanilla/​vanilla cupcake had pink flowers all over it. Also, none of the cupcakes had descriptions on the little cards so it was very inconvenient to try and figure out what flavors they were. I ended up settling on a basic vanilla/​vanilla and a chocolate with strawberry filling and pink vanilla frosting. My friend got an orange cake with orange vanilla frosting. My two cupcakes came just below $ 5 and we went out to the car to give them a try (atmosphere was too cold damp to eat in the store).
First off, the cakes were freezing. I understand that you have to keep them fresh but this was way too cold. When we brought them outside they started getting wet and beads of water formed on the frosting. The cake was awful, it was hard and completely dry. The frosting was generic and tasted worse than the frosting you’d get on baked goods at Price Chopper. It was hard as well and way too sugary. The cake tasted like it was from a box mix. I only took 2 bites of my vanilla cupcake and I had already begun to feel sick from all the sugar, I couldn’t even finish it. My friend said the flavor of the orange cake was good but the texture and temperature made it dreadful.
All in all, this place is bad. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great tasting cake. Decorations are good, which is probably why a lot of people come here. But I’d want a great tasting cake than a good looking cake any day.

I like Coccadotts because of the novelty of it not because of the prices. So far, I’ve had the S’mores cupcake and the Pina Colada cupcake. Both were very good but left me wanting more. I couldn’t tell if I was legitimately hungry at the time or if these cupcakes were too small for the $ 2.50 pricetage. Probably both. Either way, I wish I felt like I was getting more bang for my buck.
The people working there are nice but pester a lot. I was gaping at all the different designs on the cupcakes and was asked three times if I was going to order. If I’m kneeling down on the floor for a few minutes, I don’t think I’m ready to order.
Pros
–Cakes look really cute
–Cupcakes look awesome and I want to try them all. Haven’t had a problem with the taste at all.
–The entire shop is a little gaudy but it works because it shows the style of Ms. Dott
Cons:
–It’s a bit dangerous to pull into here. There’s people coming in and out and Central Avenue is basically a suicide road.
–Only two seats in the shop. Anytime I’ve been there, there’s been at least eight people standing around awkwardly. It’d be nice to have more seats.
–Angry Bird cupcakes are $ 10. Really? REALLY?
