History
Established in 1988.
In 1912 the Oregon Electric Railroad was heralded as the most modern railroad in the west. On it passengers and freight were able to travel quickly between Portland and Eugene. With a running time of just under four hours. The Albany station, near the half way mark, was an important hub for traffic. The railroad was a major employer in the area until the 1930’s.
The great depression caused the end of passenger train travel on the Oregon Electric, and the train station was bought by Linn county. Later it become Veterans Memorial Hall, and the VFW. Then finally Ciddici’s Pizza Parlor moved into the building. The old ORE station in Eugene also became a restaurant. Today the building still houses Ciddici’s and is on the national historic register. You can still see the OER logo on the front dormer today. Take a tour of historic Albany and stop at the «Oregon Electric Station» for lunch.
