History

Established in 1947.

Abacus started in Berkeley in 1947, just down the street from our current Berkeley location in the Gourmet Ghetto. We are the fifth owner of the Berkeley office. Our founder, Dana, started the business around her kitchen table and eventually moved into a store front on Shattuck Ave.

Sharon also started preparing tax returns around her kitchen table in the days before computers. Our Alamo office opened in 1995 as Alamo Tax Service.

The two companies were merged in 2005 and retained the Abacus name.

Through strong community support, Abacus continues to grow. We are a proud member of the Danville Chamber of Commerce.

Meet the Business Owner

Sharon H.

Business Owner

Sharon is the CEO and manager of our Alamo office and brings over thirty years of experience to the practice. She started off as a Tax Analyst for Chevron Corporation, preparing returns for expatriate executives and conducting high-​level audits. From there, she moved on to KPMG, Manager, International Executive Tax Service, heading a team of tax professionals. In 1995, she branched out on her own and formed Alamo Tax Service.

Sharon specializes in audit representation and is a Fellow of the National Tax Practitioners’ Institute, the industry’s highest designation for audit representation.

Sharon is a Past President of the Alamo Chamber of Commerce. In her free time, you can find her in the French Horn section of the Danville Community Band.
