Tavistock Books specializes in First Editions, Rare & Collectible books from the 16th C to the 21st. Specialties include Charles Dickens [~ 1000 volumes], Childrens Serial Fiction [e.g., Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew], Vietnam Conflict Literature and History of Nursing Literature. Our current stock currently numbers ~ 15,000 volumes, with material in most subject areas, Aviation — Zoology, though Literature, in all forms, predominates. Regrettably, we are unable to carry much material in foreign languages.

Business Owner

Vic is a retired Coast Guard Search & Rescue pilot, who opened his Alameda store in July 1997. A 1974 Honors Graduate from the US Coast Guard Academy, he holds two Masters degrees: an MBA [Finance] from NYU, and a Masters in Aeronautical Science from Embry-​Riddle. He established Tavistock Books in 1989. He was admitted to the ABAA [Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America] in 1995 and in 1999, became a founding member of the IOBA [Independent Online Booksellers’ Association]. Since 1998, he has attended 15 continuing education courses at Rare Book School at UVa in Charlottesville VA, as well as 2 courses in rare books at California Rare Book School, UCLA. He annually hosts a day-​long workshop for new antiquarian booksellers on the use of Reference Books in their business, employing his 3000 book reference library during the course of the day. Currently [2012], Vic serves on the National Board of Governors for the ABAA. He is a member of numerous rare book associations.
