Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

My husband and I are members of Live Oak Fellowship, and even though we moved to Redwood City 2 years ago, where there is a lovely and vibrant UU Fellowship, we continue to attend services at Live Oak, in spite of the long shlepp across the bridge, because we find the services to be meaningful and thought-​provoking, as well as humorous and touching, the congregation to be warm and welcoming, and the fellowship’s commitment to contribute their entire Sunday collection to charity organizations to be inspiring. There is a small but mighty choir, a fabulous music director, and a wonderful children’s Religious Education director. Plus the potlucks afterwards are always fun and delicious. It’s a great place for inspiration and fellowship.

After moving to the East Bay, a friend suggested that I attend LOUUF. It was formed as a break-​away from an Oakland UU church. There are some really good people here and some that troubled me. Their focus is on music and communal meals. Ultimately I had a problem with a Board member that could not be resolved; I went to some effort to do so and was met with silence and secrecy rather than openness and honesty. Not sure what UU values they observe.

Our Mission: We create loving community through worship and service to others.
We currently meet at Christ Episcopal Church, 1700 Grand Street in Alameda, CA. We hold worship services and other programming on Sunday afternoons at 4p. A community potluck is held immediately after. (see the calendar on our website:

We are a multi generational group, children always welcome and included. There are classes for children during worhip services and there is a wonderful playground for supervised recreation.
Many members are LGBTQ and we will be earning our *welcoming congregation* credential to be eligible to fly a rainbow flag over our door.
Our facility is physically accessible, please call ahead if you are concerned if we can accommodate any mobility issues you have. We provide large print hymnals and Orders of Service. Hearing assistanet devices are available as well.
We are a lay led fellowship with a great choir (we sing a LOT) with visiting ministers and speakers. We have professional staff for music and children’s religious exploration. Children also participate in early segments of each worship service.
