Oh, and the name, Jerry’s? Jerry just retired and the business is in Kevin’s capable hands; just no name change. Centrally located in Alameda, it’s easy to wait for your car. Just take a short stroll to Park street to shop or get a coffee.

I took my car here for a leak in my tire and it was patched right away. I was able to get my tires replaced a few days later in under an hour. Great price and service! I will definitely be coming back here for future repairs!

Took my car here for a tire repair, they took my car right in found a big nail; did the repair and 15 minute later I was back on the road. The place down the street on Park told me it would take 3 hours before the could even look at my care.
I have lived on Alameda island for 15 years and this was my first time here. I will make this my go to place in the future. They are very kind and welcoming folks and provide a wide range of service for your car care.

I took my Toyota 4Runner to Jerry’s when the check engine light came on. After inspection, Jerry determined that I needed a new catalytic converter. He searched around but couldn’t come up with an affordable option for me and recommended that I take my car to a muffler shop. Jerry spent a couple hours on this and charged me nothing. They’re friendly, helpful and have great integrity. I highly recommend them and will be back next time I need service.

All my cars have come here for more than 25 years, since Morris Landy Ford sold the dealership. Jerry Sherman is completely honest and runs a good shop. Francine in the office is also very helpful (but is not Jerry’s wife– his wife is Darlene Sherman, the author). And it is very convenient to Park Street if you need to wait for your car– restaurants, coffee shops, retail.

Do not go to this shop for any repairs you do not pass a smog test not qualified and is a jerk about it.

Jerry’s is the friendly Mom-​and-​Pop auto repair shop that you thought was long extinct. They are friendly, fast, and honest. Moreover, they stand behind their work, as I have learned when I had to return and have something re — repaired, not due to any fault of theirs, but because a part was defective. They cheerfully took care of it, without any arguments.
Another bonus: Jerry has been around for a long time, and knows lots of other excellent, honest mechanics & shops. If there is something that he does not do, he will know a fine craftsman in the area who does it, and refer you to them. The referrals I have received from him were also excellent. A great place to take your car!

Everyone here was really nice– it’s a little family business.
I went in with a flat, but when they couldn’t find the leak right away, they did a little more digging and found that the chrome was separating from my rim, which lead to some corrosion, which lead to my tire not being able to seal properly on the wheel any more. They brought it over and showed me exactly what was wrong.
It wasn’t fixable, and I am going to have to replace the back wheels, both of them, as it turns out, but they did put some silicone in the corroded part, so I was able to get home, and showed me how the chrome was coming off my rims, and explained that, while it’s rare for something like this to happen, the peeling chrome was a sign that it could.
They worked on my car the moment I handed over the keys, and kept on it until everything was sorted.
Really nice folks, did everything they could, very honest, I recommend them!

Needed a tire fixed on my Audi. Apparently they don’t work on European cars. The reason — just because. Well, I guess it’s their choice.

I’ve been going to Jerry’s for 5+ years now and they are my go to place for car repairs. I’ve gotten oil changes, flats fixed, regular maintenance, milestone scheduled maintenance and even just a look-​over before a multi-​day drive. They have reasonable prices and do not try to fix things that don’t need fixing. Just today I got a flat, drove to Jerry’s, and even though they had other cars to work on, they fixed my flat within an hour and put my spare back for me. Totally recommend them. Note: They don’t work on european or hybrids cars.

I dont give many bad reviews but this place rubbed me the wrong way. I know the reviews say sweet old couple and initially Jerry and the older woman I spoke with sounded sweet as pie. However, the overall experience was not good.
I had my car towed over the weekend for a simple fix of my gear shifter. I left the key under the door with my phone number to be looked at on Monday morning. Monday morning rolls around, no call. I call them at noon and they say they have not even looked at it yet. I call back later in the afternoon and they still hadn’t even looked at the car. Luckily for me, I take the bus to work. Tuesday rolls around and they tell me what I already knew and said it would be $ 450 which seemed a little much but OK. So finally at 4:00 on Tuesday they say the car is ready but they close at 5 if I want to get the car. I have to give them CC info over the phone and they said they would leave the car and receipt in the car.
I get to Jerry’s at 5:15 and its closed and car is out in the lot. I cant find the key or receipt they said would be in the car, the gear shifter is fixed but the shifter is a lot tighter than before and all things under my floor mat and the contents of my ashtray are dumped all over the car and in the middle console. Kind of rude to just dump garbage and stuff under my mat everywhere. I know they need to get to the clutch so have to remove the floor boards and mats but come on, dont have to just dump stuff everywhere.
Sweet sounding people… but I guess voices can be deceiving.

These guys are the best; polite, professional and fast. I’ve been going to them for years and they’ve always done well by me.

walked into jerrys yesterday. the older man behind the counter had a smile on his face, and kindly asked me what i needed. I said I had a flat tire on my car and pointed outside to my 1966 VW beetle. the man says, «we dont work on European cars.» looking for a little clarification, and assuming that a tire is a tire, european or not i ask «you dont patch flats?» the mans tone changed «that’s not what I said. we don’t work on european cars.» now a little annoyed since it’s quite easy to explain and repeating yourself is disrespectful, i ask «is a european tire different than other tires?» he responds, «sir, we don’t work on european cars.» he points at my car and continues, «that is a vw, thats a european car.» i walked out.
ok. i dont know if you had a bad morning or whatever. but your sign says JERRY’S TIRE AND AUTO CENTER. point is, i still don’t know why you were acting like a jerk, or the reason why you cant patch a tire. either way, your attitude was extremely rude.
big o down park street was awesome. a little banter about my 66 was the cherry on top. clearly that kind of treatment goes a long way since they were super busy (although i was treated like i was the only one there).

This place is too good to be true. I have been here twice now and have been so, so happy with their service. I took my car here for the first time after I had taken it to another auto shop that told me I would need at least $ 2,000 more work done on my car (I had already had them do $ 600) and that my car may still not be fixed.
I then brought my car to Jerry and he was amazing. He never treated my like I was stupid, he explained everything to me, he told me that I did not even need some of the stuff the other guy suggested, EVER!
I ended up only having to spend a few hundred more dollars and was sold for life! My car runs great and six months later I have still had no problems.
I then brought my car in because I wanted new shocks. I had just had the tires replaced and the tire place quoted me over a thousand dollars and said I needed both front and back replaced. I said no thanks, and took my car to Jerry. Again he said I did not need all of that done, had my car fixed faster than he said he would and for less than he initially quoted.
These guys are great, they always call you to tell you what is going on, when the car is done, and just make you feel comfortable. I wish I had found them sooner.
I also get a warm feeling when I talk about these guys. A+++

I use to be a loyal Jerry’s customer until the change in how the shop was run. Once Jerry and his wife took over the day to day running of the shop it has gone down hill. My mom took her car in for transmission work and they failed to replace the proper amount of transmission fluid which can cause major damage. When called on it they denied any wrong doing. This was the final straw for me and my family. I will not go back to Jerry’s.

I was a little worried about scheduling my appointment here before work. What happened? Well, they were on time and I was the late one!
I dropped my car off at 8:30 and went out to breakfast. They said the car would be done by 9:00. They were telling the truth! When I got back from breakfast, my car was done and waiting for me (for once)!
Plus, the location is wonderful. You can drop off your car and just walk over to Park Street. There’s Starbucks, Peet’s, Olé’s Café, a bagel shop, mexican restaurants, japanese restaurants… I mean EVERYTHING within walking distance.
Awesome service and all the employees are super nice. I highly recommend this place and I’ll be going back for my next oil change for sure!

Jerry is a nice guy, who doesn’t overcharge. He also doesn’t talk down to female customers, even though, in my case, it was obvious that I don’t know a transmission from a spark plug. He replaced 4 tires for me and did an oil change for about $ 300. His employee offered to help me get my bike up onto the bike rack, which is always tricky for me, and he was also super nice. I will be doing all my tune-​ups here from now on!

I heart Jerry’s Auto Center! Jerry and the rest of the crew know what they are doing here. This is one of the very few places left where you can take your car and get honest, quality service without feeling like you’re getting ripped off!
