Icarus Bungee

Was a fantastic experience! Daniel was great. Friendly and reassuring. I would definitely recommend if this is your first jump (as it was for me). When I am back in California I am going to try and go again,

A friend and I did our first bungee jump with Icarus recently. The experience was amazing, most thrilling thing I’ve ever done. I’d highly recommend trying it.
But more specifically about Daniel and the company, I couldn’t recommend him highly enough whether this is your first jump or not.
1. He’s been in business since 1990 (and jumping since 1988), has a perfect safety record and has thousands of jumps under his belt himself.
2. He’s a military veteran (so he’s structured and detail oriented) and he’s a civil engineer (so he understands physics and how things work).
3. People describe him as a «cord snob» and this is definitely a good thing. He designed and custom manufactured cords for durability and strength.
4. He’s also designed and in some cases manufactured things like his harnesses and hauling racks.
5. He made the first experience fun and memorable, and I thought had a great system for working with a large group.
All of these are very good things if you’re doing something death defying like this and I can’t wait to book another trip with him.

I did it last year, but came across Icarus Bungee while browsing Unilocal and wanted to give it my fair 5 stars. Loved the adrenaline and jitters. You have to wait for some time before you jump, but the way you are made to work as a team is a lot of fun.

The absolute craziest experience I’ve ever had and I’m glad to have done it with Icarus. I’ve been skydiving before, but never bungee jumping. I’ve always felt that bungee jumping was scarier than sky diving and I was right. My boyfriend booked our jump without me knowing and I was petrified when I found out. I called Dan in the middle of the week and he took the time to calm me down and advised me on what to do to prepare for the jump. My group was a group of first-​timers so he took us out to the beginner bridge. The beginner bridge (100ft) is the perfect height to start off at. Definitely enough to terrify you and give you that near-​death adrenaline, but not so tall that you are completely and utterly petrified.
Dan is passionate about bungee jumping and loves what he does. He’s been in the industry for over 20 years and has a perfect track record. No injuries, no accidents, nothing. Dan also makes his own ropes and I find them to be a lot more secure. Dan is also the first person to test out the ropes after he makes them. I highly recommend Icarus.

It’s about time I wrote this review. Daniel led me through the previously unchartered territories of 1) jumping off of a bridge, and 2) being thrown off of a bridge, and he kept me alive THE ENTIRE TIME. This alone deserves 5 stars, my friend.
After a terrifying drive up a mountain with SUPER sketchy roads, riding shotgun in a car driven by my very nervous but wonderful friend, we finally arrived at The Secret Location a bit before sunrise. Daniel was there to greet us. As the sun came up, and our stomach butterflies began to flitter flutter, Daniel described the bungeeing process, the equipment, and the (yay) many years of experience he has had with the activity. Then we lined up, heaviest to lightest, and the jumping party began.
Each person gets two jumps. Each time, we do a countdown. This countdown is seriously masterful and has clearly been tweaked to produce the best results, because I think every single person who went actually jumped at the end of the first countdown rather than chickening out one or several times. It starts at 5, you jump on 1, and down you go! The free fall down is beyond incredible, but the bounces back UP are almost equally awesome. And then it’s all over, and for a few minutes, it’s just you, your thoughts and the river… oh, and your raging, totally out-​of-​control pulse. Eventually, everyone works together using a rope and a heave-​ho system to pull you back up the bridge.
Guys, you won’t be allowed o do this, but ladies: Listen up. You may get the chance to do a jump called the pallbearer, in which 6 or so of your fellow jumpers and Daniel hold you up, count down to 1, run, and throw you off of the bridge. It is INSANE. Usually when I use that word it’s hyperbole, but allowing yourself to be thrown off of a bridge is coming pretty close to the actual definition of insanity. It is so scary, but it is so awesome. Seriously, if you have the chance, and mind and body allow, you must do this type of jump!
General notes/​observations:
–Do not be late. Daniel will not be happy, and he will let you know.
–Bring your signed waiver. Daniel will otherwise not be happy, and he will let you know. (we were guilty of this one)
–Bring some water and food. You’ll be there for hours, and these bridges aren’t the kind of places that have lemonade stands or convenience stores nearby.
–We tried some pictures and they didn’t work very well. Unless you’re a skilled photographer, I’d go with videos.
–HAVE FREAKING FUN and get ready to be addicted to bungee forevermore!

Daniel is both extremely professional and friendly. He loves to tell fun stories throughout the day to keep everyone laughing and engaged. I never once felt insecure during the entire experience. Be prepared for an early start because he likes to complete the whole process before it gets too hot!

Jumping off a bridge while hanging from an overgrown rubberband has got to be one of the scariest things a person can do. When you’re doing something so nutballs insane you want to make sure the person who’s rubberband you’re using didn’t have the the swiss army knife fairy cutting away at the rope all night. You have to be able to trust the person you’re going to dangle off the bridge with and Dan was definitely the kind of guy worth trusting hands down. He took the time to not only convince me that it would be safe with his 100% perfect safety record over the last 2 decades, his checking and double checking his equipment, the thorough explanations as I called him 3 or 4 times to make sure I wasn’t going to be saying hi to God the day of the jump (or the devil, since I’d love to start working on my drunken deviant merit badge). We met around 6:00 am the day of the jump about an hour before dawn. (January 7^th the weekend after New Years, so as you can imagine it was freeze your balls off cold) He explained what me and my group would have to do in getting ready for our drunken kool-​aide leap to our deaths. We geared up and one by one at sunrise started leaping into the abyss of the bridge to the amusement of passersby and hoary old fishermen under the bridge laughing their collective asses off. He even let me take pictures and video of the whole experience which like a photo taking fiend I made sure to capture every moment of the experience with all my friends jumping off the bridge and having the time of their lives. If you decide to go bungee jumping choose the man with the 100% safety record for 22 years, cheap rates, and who loves what he does and wants each person who jumps to love it as much as he does. Thanks to Dan, My friends and I had the time of our lives. I was able to face my fear of heights and had a blast while doing it.

The nice thing about adrenaline sports: people of different races, walks of life, and socio-​economic backgrounds can come together and confront their innate fears. In our group of 7 that jumped early one morning off a bridge in Humbolt County, there was a family I’ll label «Trailer 3» with a Mom that decided she wanted to Bungee jump for her 50^th birthday. Along with her was Daddy Billy Bob Biff, and their son I’ll call Peanut Butter Teeth (because his chops looked like he ate a heaping spoonful of peanut butter, and the PB stuck to his gums and wasn’t all quite evaporated yet — I love obvious nicknames).
Then there was us — Birthday Girl, Blinky, Crooked-​nosed ex-​Marine, and Me (Miss Fab-​U-​Lous. Like I said — obvious nicknames.)
We went in accordance of weight — heaviest to lighest. 2 jumps each.
It’s funny to see grown men chicken out of jumping — especially when they brag beforehand about jumping out of Black Hawks in the Marines with a parachute un-​tandem. Especially more so entertaining if you have a Peanut Butter Teeth in your group smiling from ear to ear like he was Annie and Daddy Warbucks bought him a pair of shiny white veneers to show off. It’s hilarious watching your friends trying to hold their breaths as PBT gets right up to their faces to provide commentary on each jump in between cigarette breaks to cover up his unbrushed poo breath.
Of all the crazy shit I’ve done in my time, Bungee Jumping was one of my favorite experiences. Forget heroin. Fall backwards instead of facing forward — it’s scarier and more exhilarating (I think). ADRENALINE HIGH, so high… (Why does a Cypress Hill song come to mind right now???).
And, ask Dan to tell you the story about the game «Smiles». Let’s just say it involves Thailand, young ladies, and be forewarned… it isn’t G-​Rated.

I liked this company…
I exchanged a few e-​mails/​phone calls with the owner, Daniel Roza to secure gift certificates to go do this.
The prices were good. I did weeks of homework – pricing, location, timing, etc before deciding on this place.
Camping was interesting, out in the middle of nowhere. Trust me it was spooky and dark.
The guy/​owner talked a mile a minute about nothing, and shared his MREs with us. No, we didn’t try ‘em.
So at the butt-​crack of dawn, okay… it was more like right before the butt-​crack of dawn… in the still darkness, he had to explain the rules/​procedures to us, and got us into the gear. Then he had us get into the trucks… and then he dropped us off somewhere secluded. And we had to wait for him to pick us up and drop us off as if we were fugitives.
After climbing some very slippery rocks to get to this bridge in Humboldt County… we got to climb over fences to get to actual bridge.
After a few people went, it was my turn. I was the pain of the group. I have an aversion to looking into bodies of water… stemming from my inability to swim. So they did the countdown two times, before I changed my mind and did the reverse jump…
Bungee jumping is hard work, because the climb up the rope two times was hard!
It was so worth the two jumps!
Oh, it was for my s. o’s birthday, and I was pretty disgustingly sick the night/​weekend of this excursion, but I sucked it up and grew balls for the occasion.
