Hirschfeld Fabrications Custom Metal Work

Unilocal to the rescue once again!
I like to visit the Crate and Barrel outlet in Berkeley pretty often and one weekend I hit the jackpot. The bed I had been eying from CB2 was in the furniture room of the outlet and it could finally be mine for the low, low price of $ 50. Yes, FIFTY DOLLARS! The only catch is that it only comes with the headboard and footboard, no slats, side railing, etc… You may think, «OH! That’s easy! Just buy side rails and call it a day!» But nope, that won’t work. Since this bed is a platform bed and it doesn’t have the usual pre-​drilled holes, a regular set of side rails won’t do to the trick.
I figured I could find a welder and if I gave him the bed measurements and the assembly instructions and he could make the parts that I was missing. So after searching on Unilocal and finding Joel Hirschfeld of Hirschfeld Fabrications, I emailed him and began the process. Let me just say, Joel is one of the nicest, most patient guys you will ever meet in your life. I’m usually weary of any manly, man service since the service tends to be rude, or mildly offensive, but Joel was professional and awesome!
He took pics throughout the process and was nice enough to deliver (something that he rarely does) when the rails were complete. Even with his awesome handy work, I was able to have the bed I wanted and saved over $ 400!

Needed some Titanium welding done and was pointed to Joel’s direction. Dropped of the Titanium pieces around 10 am and picked it up 1ish after lunch. great work, great price, good communicator. I will be using Hirschfeld Fabrications in my future projects as well.

Joel is a really nice guy that does amazing metal work! I had him weld some frames for me for an art project and he did exactly what I asked for very fast and really reasonable prices. Joel also makes some really incredible custom bike frames that are super light! Definitely get in touch with him if you want to be the envy of all the other bay area bike fanatics (and leave them in the dust as you fly buy on your hirschfeld)…
