H&R Block

Went here to get my taxes done and a nice lady named Tatia (sp?) helped me out! She was so nice and patient. My federal returns went smoothly but my state returns got rejected and we couldn’t figure out why. Tatia went above and beyond to fix the problem. Come to find out it was just a number missing she forgot to put in for my state returns! She kept in touch to assure me she was figuring out the issue. She was such a big help, I was very appreciative! After a couple of weeks my state returns finally got accepted. yay!!! Thanks Tatia!

Well, I got there yesterday and I never had bad experience till this one! Very rude & make u look very weak and hopeless & place doesn’t have PRIVATE rooms ! &‘she talks very loud bout your PRIVATE stuff! It’s like she is IRS worker or something! She was like I’ll charge u $ 400 – 500 for this service! She basically not right person for service ! I had a awful a Saturday night bcause I went there! First time and bad experience ! She seems
Very enjoying about talking aloud bout my private stuff ! After I left then I realize I forgot my phone went back she her front dest lady making fun of or sthing! There are laughing behind my back !

I made an appointment with H&R to do my 2014 taxes. The woman who helped me was named Kathy Esher and she was fantastic. I highly recommend you make an appointment with her.
I had to wait about 20 minutes but that was no fault of Kathy’s, and more to the fault of her clients being unprepared. However, she handled the situation very professionally, was apologetic, and continuously updated me on my wait. What stood out the most was that she wanted to make every step of the process clear. She explained my school payments, IRA rollovers, and pretty much every other personal aspect of my filing thoroughly and how it would help me get a larger refund.
Great multi-​tasker; I was able to have an entertaining conversation with her all while she vigorously tried to prepare my return as quickly as possible. I also was the annoying customer who asked for everything to be manually signed and copied for my records, and even though she was behind schedule and this would add to the issue; she did it with a smile. I have to say my previous experiences with H&R have been less than stellar, but Kathy made me reconsider the company and I’m sure I will be filing my taxes with her again next year.

This is for the advisor Jamie at the marina village H & R block. DO NOT GO TO HER! She shorted my family by 2k! We got a second opinion and realized she was wrong! She couldn’t answer any of our question as to why we were receiving the amount she calculated!

This review is not for this H&R Block location but for the tax advisor Jamie! Do NOT let her do your taxes! We went to her and brought all of our tax info (my husband, myself and our 5 month old daughter). I should’ve known something was wrong when she referred to my daughter as my son (despite the pink outfit). She put in the information we had given her and told us what our refund would be. Our refund was CONSIDERABLY less than what we got last year. Mind you I have a new baby… when we questioned it, she seemed perplexed as if she couldn’t explain what she had done herself! In fact she said «I’m not sure what to tell you…» What?! Isn’t that your job?! Needless to say we left and decided to get a second opinion. We went to another location in SF (still an H&R Block) and saw Janet Larson (she’s been doing my family’s taxes for years) and the refund we got was such a huge difference. Not just a couple hundred dollars difference! Just imagine how much money we would’ve lost if we hadn’t gotten a second opinion! So the lesson: it’s not this location, but JAMIE who does not show competence in her job title.

Do not go here. Incompetent group of workers. I had to create a username just to write this review — that should show you how bad this place is.

Did my taxes here and it was an okay experience. It was not as good as the last H&R Block that I used before moving, but it was a fairly easy process with them and no complaints. They made one mistake on our initial appointment that was recognized before our appointment to submit everything. I was contacted and everything was explained before I came back in. I was apologized to, even though it was a small issue, and I was given a slight discount on my taxes, which I greatly appreciated. I say on many reviews that it is more important to take responsibility for one’s mistakes than to avoid making them — we all make ‘em. I think they took responsibility. The overall experience was still just decent, though. I considered a 4 because I was impressed with their handling of the mistake, but the overall experience still just felt more like a 3.

I went to H&R Block because I had been living overseas and had a complicated tax situation. The pricing was incredibly high, which a reason for my 3 star review– but I don’t assume that that is a ‘branch’ issue, more of a company issue. Also I got scheduled with one tax ‘professional’ that didn’t have any idea what to do with my case, which was frustrating. BUT when I got handed off to Gretchen, who specializes in overseas tax situations, I had a pretty good experience. She had a great attitude despite her busy schedule. I felt like she really took the extra time to make sure I got the entire tax refund that I deserved. I won’t be going back to H&R Block because of the high price, but if I ever encounter a ‘complicated’ situation again that needs a tax expert I would have no problem recommending Gretchen!

It’s taken me a long time to write this review because everytime I started, I ended up crying and couldn’t finish. My husband and I decided that with a 2 yr old, baby on the way and a new house, we would play it safe and get our taxes done by «professionals». We filed, got our refund and thought it was all fine until November when we got mail from the IRS informing us that the form was filled out incorrectly and we owed them almost $ 3000 due by the end of the year which was a month away. By then we had already finished Christmas shopping and since my son’s 3^rd birthday was in early January, we had also gotten him a present. It was the worst Christmas ever for us because we had to return all the gifts, and my son got a homemade cake for his birthday present (and if you ever tasted my baking, you would be sad, too!). H & R block does not help pay for anything other than the interest in the event of THEIR screw up. Which is a fair policy, except if the place you go to is INCOMPETENT. My advice to those who value their money: Go to another H&R block that hires people who actually know what they’re doing!

embarrassingly bad.
i went to h&r block for last year’s taxes because i thought i had a complicated situation on my hands. was living in chicago half the year, moved back to san francisco. worked for the same employer the whole time. was afraid to do turbo tax. didn’t want the irs on my tail for doing it all wrong.
so i made an appointment. biggest mistake ever. the «tax consultant» helping me barely spoke english, had repulsive breath, and worst of all — knew absolutely fucking nothing about taxes! every time she had to input information into another field, she had to get up and ask the girl at the next cubicle what to do next.
she didn’t ask me about possible deductibles. she was perplexed beyond belief at the fact that i had lived in two states in one year. no clue what to do about that (calls over the smart girl again). there was one point where I had to tell HER what information went where on her computer screen. and she took FOREVER. i was in there for 2 hours. i swear to god she even had problems putting my forms into a fucking envelope.
and for this i paid about $ 200.
i think she did screw up pretty bad, because i got a huuuuuuge state tax refund — way bigger than my federal.
