Went in to see Dr Tonsberg after not having seen a dentist in quite a while. He and his staff were professional and very friendly and welcoming. Scheduled a cleaning and at the time, there was nothing available within a 2 month time span. but the ladies in the front were great about calling to reschedule for a sooner appointment anytime there was a cancellation by another patient. Dr Tonsberg was gentle while examining my gum health and his sing-​song voice almost put me to sleep! Weird that you can go to the dentist and feel relaxed. Overall best dentist experience I’ve had. Very bright and cheery atmosphere as well! Schedule your appointment with them. :)

I have been seeing Dr Tonsberg since I first moved to the Bay area in late 1980’s. He is a great dentist. His daughter in law is now my hygienist and is always a pleasure to see. One time I broke my tooth and it was around Xmas time and a Saturday. The office was closed and Dr. Tonsberg met me there and fixed my tooth for me. I am always pleased with their services.

Dr. Tonsberg has been our family dentist for nearly 25 years. Finn provides high quality dental work in a professional and comfortable environment. Staff and hygienists are all well trained and very knowledgeable. This office exhibits a strong attention to detail; are extremely helpful; and they offer a friendly and inviting setting for dental care. Patients are highly prioritized and recognized here — staff remembers your name and eases the experience of getting your teeth worked on.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Tonsberg for the past 9 years. I’ve lived in Alameda for over 20 years and have had 6 different dentists within this city. Dr. Tonsberg is clearly the best of all the dentists I have experienced. In addition to his vast dental knowledge, he has excellent bedside manners. I recently needed to have some emergency dental work that involved saving some bridgework that was done by another dentist. This issue was identified when I had some routine cleaning performed. Dr. Tonsberg managed to make time for me in spite of his busy schedule to skillfully handle the problem.

I have been going to Dr. Tonsberg for 10+ years and plan to be is patient another 20. Not only is the staff friendly and gentle on the gums but they have a consistent staff. Dr. Tonsberg is very kind. I schedule my cleanings before my five year old daughter and she «helps» them. She loves going to her cleanings now.

Dr. Tonnsberg was recommended to me by a co-​worker when I was looking for a new dentist. I also noticed he had excellent reviews on Unilocal (when my then-​current dentist did not) and that threw me over the edge.
I have been seeing Dr. Tonnsberg for about 2 years now I am very pleased I made the switch. He has a very kind and gentle manner which is very appealing. He fixed a bad crown (which developed a big gap) from prior dental work, has put in an implant crown and done a number of fillings. The dental work has been excellent and pain and anxiety free…
He has a number of dental hygienists that come on different days. So far, I have not found a regular hygienist that suits me — I like a very deep cleaning — but I have not tried them all yet — so I am withholding judgement. I must say that is why I have withheld the last star — until I find the right hygienist… which will hopefully be soon!
I can heartily recommend Dr. Tonnsberg for anybody looking for an excellent dentist.

This is a wonderful dentist and practice. My wife and I have been going there for over ten years and are very happy with Dr. Tonsberg. He convinced me to replace a crown on my front tooth, which I had had most of my life, and which was a horrible ugly thing. His replacement was great, you could hardly tell it was a crown at all. When I broke that crown a few years later he replaced it and the second one was even better than his first. Someone told me the other day that I had beautiful teeth. I’d never heard that before going to Dr. Tonsberg.
His hygenist Cindy is really top-​notch too.

Of all the reviewers, I am the oldest, I suppose. Dr Tonsberg has been my dentist (and my husband’s) for 33 years.
I can’t claim these days are all the teeth in my head are mine and I have more crowns in my head than there are on the thrones of Europe.
But, thanks to Dr Tonsberg, they look good.
I do work hard between my 6-​monthly to maintain the efforts of the hygenists. They are all pleasant and work as pain free as possible.
Dr Tonsberg wife, Joanie, used to be my hygenist, but she retired a few years ago to spend time with their grandchildren. That’s how well I know them!
I should add that I came to Dr Tonsberg with teeth that had barely survived a Scottish childhood and dentistry!

We have been going to Dr. Tonsberg since we moved to Alameda 5 years ago and could not be happier. My son started going at 3 and the staff was so great to him, they really made going to the dentist a great experience for him. The entire staff is really professional and nice. I would recommend Dr. Tonsberg to anyone in need of a great dentist.

We’ve lived in 4 different states in 15 years. Picking a dentist is one of THE hardest things about moving (tied with hair stylist). I’m sorry, but there are some very sleazy dentists, and finding good ones can be a challenge! Our first two years in Alameda, we were with a dentist that gave me doubts (recommending tons of work, and then half the time he wasn’t even there and just had the hygenist clean our teeth, meanwhile billing our insurance for a full visit. Over that.
We got a recommendation for Dr. Tonsberg, and switched quickly. We LOVE him and his entire staff. The hygenists have been there 20+ years and really know what they are doing. Somehow, with Dr. Tonsberg and his whole team, you just know you’re in great hands. They are great with my husband and I and our two kids.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Tonsberg for 11 yrs now and will travel across the Bay to continue with him and his staff. I finally convinced my partner to switch to fix a prior dentist’s mistakes. I did the same thing 11 yrs ago. Dr. Tonsberg uses excellent judgement to apply the appropriate actions for what is needed. He neither undertreats nor overtreats. He is extremely competent both technically and in bedside manners.
Clearly, Dr. Tonsberg and his staff is head and shoulders above the rest. Because of his popularity, some appointments need to be scheduled quite far in advance.

I just came back from a check up and I realized that I was long past due for a review of Dr. Tonsberg.
He’s easily the best dentist I have ever had. He is gentle, soft-​spoken and has a very relaxed attitude which spills over into the office and makes a visit there almost a pleasure. I have never felt nervous or scared in his chair. His staff is polite and friendly and do their very best to accommodate you. His office is in an old Alameda house, which is a nice touch.
I’d recommend Dr. Tonsberg to anyone without hesitation.

Based on all of the fabulous Unilocal reviews, I scheduled appointments with Dr. Tonsberg for myself and my husband. Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience. Cindy was my dental hygienist and the NICEST, most pleasant hygienist I have ever dealt with. Dr. Tonsberg himself is wonderful — very soft spoke and gentle. I really, really actually enjoyed my visit and am looking forward to a long relationship with this practice!

All I have to tell you is that I’ve been going there for over 12 years. I used to live in Alameda at the time and even though I moved across the bay to the peninsula, I still drive to Alameda to get my dental work done. My boss thinks I’m nuts but that’s because i take half a day off from work to go there :)
It’s a matter of comfort and knowing that I don’t have to worry about my dentist.
