Specialties
A lifelong artist, I specialize in face painting, body art, & theatrical makeup design. I’m based in Alameda but travel all over the greater San Francisco Bay Area & beyond. I’ve also worked in animation, illustration, theater, and event planning. For large events, I can help you put together a team of great body artists and other entertainers. I love working with children, men and women of all ages, and helping my customers feel unique — when you’re painted, You Become Art! Not limited to standard butterflies, cats, & superheroes, I also create conceptual body art to address serious themes and honor ancient archetypes. My face paints are water-based, safe for human skin, and remove easily with soap and water. My rates are affordable, and I can offer a costumed character for some settings. History
Established in 2006.
I have painted all my life, and studied theatrical makeup in high school. I developed my improvisational and festival skills at the NorCal Renaissance Faire, and started face painting regularly in 2001 at the Post Street Block Party. Friends suggested I go into business but I hesitated and continued to practice, study, and learn the skills, materials, and hygiene necessary to do the best and safest work, bringing out my paints at every opportunity. In 2006 I began booking face painting clients professionally and have never looked back. My latest leap is into the world of large-scale conceptual body painting; instead of the client asking for a specific design, I work with a model to create my own concept. We have a body paint jam the 2nd Friday of every month at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. The public is invited. I love my art, my job, and especially my clients. Painting on a flat surface just isn’t as much fun.
Meet the Business Owner
Alana D.
Business Owner
At this point, I *am* the business, although I sometimes bring other painters and entertainers aboard for large events. I also act as my own booking agent, accountant, purchasing coordinator, costumer, graphic designer, and sherpa. My husband Charlie Dill (www.neptunebeachmedia.com) takes care of things that plug in, switch on, make noise, or light up, as well as doing the IT support and fabricating some set pieces. He’s my hero.
