Having taught in the Optometry School at UC Berkeley for over 25 years, Dr. Tlachac has experience in all areas of eyecare. Working in the specialty Contact Lens Clinic for many years, she has lectured nationwide on this topic.

Wearing bifocal contacts herself, the doctor feels no one is too old to wear lenses. Nor too young… kids in athletics often perform better in contacts. As do sports enthusiasts of all ages.

The office offers free eye exams for infants from 6 to 12 months of age. It is now known that early detection of eye problems is critical to the development of normal vision. As 80% of learning is visual, your child’s education is dependent upon timely eyecare.

Designer eyewear lines range from the youthful fun of Candies, 9 West, Vogue and Op to the elegance of Christian Dior, Valentino, Gucci, and Kenneth Cole. BCBG, Carrera, Revlon, Timberline and others round out a complete selection for all tastes.

History

Established in 1981.

Dr. Tlachac worked for Dr. Barney Garrett for a couple years and then took over his practice when he retired in 1981.

Dr. Sharman Wong joined the practice many years ago and continues to offer great eyecare to all. Speaking Chinese, she is able to ease the stress of exams for those who are not native English speakers.

The office moved from the west end of town to its current address in 1993 and has grown in size there.

A Valedictorian of her high school class, «Dr. T» did her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She graduated from the 4 year Optometry program at UC Berkeley with honors.

Involved in her community, the doctor has been president of Alameda Girls Club (currently Girls Inc of the Island City) and Soroptimist International of Alameda. She is currently the longest serving board member for the youth organization and loves reading for Headstart kids, too.

Professionally, she has lectured all around the country and has appearred on radio and television programs through out the West.

She was named Young OD of the Year early in her career and continued to serve her profession, culminating in serving a term as chair of a national contact lens association. She is currently a reviewing editor for Women in Optometry.

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, antiques and interior design. This year she is adding floral design to her list of hobbies.
