History

Established in 2004.

Formerly a Propeller Factory & Foundry located on the Alameda/Oakland Estuary now a Photographer/Filmmakers Playground Gallery/Event Space.

The façade is adorned w/a beautiful hand done mosaic called «Mermaid Harbor» named by the artist Isaiah Zagar to honor the neighborhoods past as a shipping & ship building center.

Remains of the areas old industry are still evident in the sections of railroad track in the parking lot and street out front. (often used by photographers for set background or foregrounds).

The building itself shows & boasts many of it’s old original qualities & fixtures; century old gantry cranes, sliding wooden warehouse doors, exposed 12 inch I-beans, a sawtooth roof w/casement windows. The 2nd level hardwood floors/stairs have been cleaned, refinished & preserved to show the old propeller factory’s many years of service to commerce & defense efforts.

Described by Local Historian as «The Finest Example of Post War Modern Industrial Architecture he’s ever seen»…

Meet the Business Owner

Chuck D.

Business Owner

Chuck’s experience as a photographer for 30 years has led him to create what those who use the space know as a «Photographers Playground».

His photo direction is that of feminine portraiture with honor and respect he tries to capture the inner image of those who grace the front of his lens. As well he is very passionate about capturing and preserving forever «the old man-made scenes», those wonderful nostalgic natural backgrounds, foregrounds and props that our predecessors created as utilitarian that some see as junk and ruins, he sees as art.

Even as a young child he was always drawn to beauty of the feminine form and ironically the beauty in old industry and architecture.

Raised in Chicago by hard working 1st Gen Italian/Americans to respect women he was a feminist before it was even a word.

Chuck is a film photographer («the original, the true form of the art»). He refuses to use photoshop or digital enhancements in his work. Therefore always seeking & creating the perfect set.
