When other parents ask me about joining a swim team, I always steer them toward the Ala-Gators. My three kids have all been with the Ala-gators, so I’m in my 11th year with this Alameda institution. The coaches use positive reinforcement and let the kids think they’re just having fun when actually they’re learning! My very first Gator(now 17 years old) swims on the high school Varsity swim team, still loving it and now very competitive. The work ethic he learned with the Gators led him to be both Freshman and Sophomore«swimmer of the year». And he had fun working that hard. Rest assured that the life skills taught gently, positively, and subtly through the Ala-Gators will give your swimmer a solid base through high school, and beyond.

I’ve never had any experience with a swim team prior to my daughter joining the Gators. However, I hear my sister talk about her kid’s experience on their team, and I feel like the Gators are so disorganized and lacking in enthusiasm — my daughter is not getting the real swim team experience. There is little communication with parents. I still don’t know the meet schedule for the Spring/Summer, and my daughter has been on the team since the winter and it’s now mid-May. Do they every go to meets? I wouldn’t know because there is a lack of communication. Have they timed my daughter? No. They haven’t told us how she can move up to the next level either. Why must all the communication be one way and one sided??? At $ 80 per month, the unenthusiastic, weary instruction and lack of goal setting, paired with a lack of «team organization» leaves us wanting out. Sorry, we wanted to be Gator boosters. We were so excited that my daughter finally found her sport only to run into this black hole of beleaguered, joyless swim. Hard to believe that 2 coaches could take the joy out of swimming, but they did it… with no effort at all.

Alameda Ala-gators is the best swim team is the Alameda area. They have the most reasonable cost, very family friendly; they don’t wear parents out by hosting huge meets to pay the bills. We have also notice with time that they seem to have less injuries(than other teams), because they don’t push the young kids too hard. Of course, if you feel your child is a future Olympic champ, they can help the child reach their dreams. All the coaches were competitive swimmers, all the way to Olympic Trials so they know the way on the competators side, as well as the coaching side. Yeh ALGA.
