The Shaw JCC offers indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center and weight room, over 60 free group exercise classes a week for our members, tennis and racquetball courts, full size gymnasium, locker rooms with sauna and steam room.

The Shaw JCC also has an Early Childhood Education department for children 6 weeks old through Transitional Kindergarten, and a large before and after school program.

History

Established in 1920.

The Akron Jewish Center was first formed in 1920 and moved into a new building on Balch Street in 1929. Today, over 90 years later, the 60-​acre community campus on White Pond Drive, renovated through a $ 7 million dollar capital campaign, is home to the Jerry Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron.

Meet the Manager

Michael N.

Manager

As a JCC member for over 35 years, Michael feels the JCC has been central to his and his family’s lives. He is happy to be leading the organization and working to sustain the long-​term future of the JCC in Akron. He aims to create the highest value possible for members.

Previously, Michael worked at Network & Diamond Polymers (sold to A. Schulman) in Akron for 15 years, serving as Chief Financial Officer and then Chief Operating Officer. Past work experience includes Jatsan Metal Company, Duracote, and General Tire and Rubber Company. He has his masters in business administration from Baldwin-​Wallace.

In addition to his professional career, he has volunteered his time and expertise with many organizations. He either served on the board of or did significant volunteer work for the Battered Women’s Shelter, the Summit Developmental Disabilities Board, Stewart’s Caring Place, GASP, Akron Child Guidance, Interfaith Caregivers, and Safe Landings.
