History

Established in 1985.

Mark and Deb Hartzler are the owners of King Memorial Home of Mentone and Hartzler Funeral Home of Akron. Mark graduated from the Indiana School of Mortuary Science of Indianapolis. After receiving his license, he and his wife owned and operated Wolf-​Hartzler Funeral Home of Walton, Indiana. After four and a half years of service to that community he had the opportunity to come back home to Akron.

Mark and Deb Hartzler purchased Hartzler Funeral Home in 1985. The funeral home is a consolidation of the Haupert Funeral Home of Akron owned by Tom and Alma Haupert and the Sheetz Funeral Home of Akron owned by Dale and Edith Sheetz. Our facility was built in 1886 and was the original building that the Sheetz Funeral Home was located.
