I recently participated in the recent Veteran’s Day Color Vibe Run 2014 at Aloha Stadium for the first time with my crew, #TeamTekniq. It was a really fun event. Me, being a runner doing mostly serious runs like marathons, events like this are really not meant to be taken seriously but rather more for FUN! But of course I am saying that marathons and other races are not fun, they are fun in their own way. But anyway if you are unfamiliar with this 5K run, it is pretty much 3 miles of color being splashed on you and playing with color. It is held at the Aloha Stadium and there was plenty of parking which is a good thing. The race course consisted of running through majority of the parking stalls and covering half of the stadium’s exterior side. Throughout the race, there was several color stations where volunteers squirt, pound, and throw color at you. There was all kinds of colors like blue, green, purple, pink, and yellow. My favorite color is green so I took my time going through that station. In fact, I rolled on the ground which was pooled with color. Other people did that as well if they wanted to. Most people wore white which is the color that you want to wear so that by the end of the day, you will end up multi-colored. It was a really fun event if you don’t mind getting a little(or a lot) of color on you. My team and I had fun. We stuck as a group and ran and jogged and walked along the way. We made sure we had fun. The race is about 40 bucks or so. Prior to the race, they give out a color vibe t-shirt, some cool color vibe shades, color powder, and race number. You save the color powder for after the race but you know people were already using the color anyway. In regards to the program and entertainment part of the event, it was alright. At the end, there is supposedly a dance party where you throw color at the end or something when the bass drops at a selected song. They kept on throwing away free stuff but I felt that they did it too fast. They should have done some sort of dance contest or something so that people can win stuff and not just throw away stuff because that’s all by luck and usually people are vicious when it comes to throwing random free stuff at a big crowd. I think the overall program/entertainment aspect of it was aight. I think they can improve on the selection of emcees, music, DJ, and«entertainment.» They also had color vibe merchandise available to purchase which was pretty cool. Some of my team bought stuff like the bandanas. Anyways, I don’t do that much fun runs like this so it was a good time just running and having fun with awesome friends.

First review of 2014!!! Unilocal 365 Challenge x 2 #254/365 What a great way to start off your new year with a FUNRUN. It’s not timed(you can walk or run-your choice), it’s family-oriented, you get to dress up AND you get doused with colored powder that will glow under black lighting :) Right before Thanksgiving, I met up with cousins for«dessert and coffee». They were asking me about the run events that I’ve been participating in because they usually see my posts on FB or Instagram. Then they shared how much they want to do an event like the Color Run, which my cousin and sister shared that there was a Neon Vibe that was scheduled for the first week of January. None of the cousins who were there could not back out because we decided that we would create a team AND use an apron that one of my cousins would print out our team name. This was hilarious because none of them likes to run… BUT they love to have fun and that alone makes it worth doing a fun run with them. OURTEAMDEALIO«JUSTDESSERTS» Why(to the team name): Our family loves desserts… there’s more desserts than the main course or side dishes… wassup with that? Our costumes: Apron, Neon Vibe Shirt(cut or used as is) with tutu’s or mini grass skirts and safety glasses(I use contacts) Scheduled Wave Time: 6:30pm(We didn’t end up running at our scheduled time because some were running late!) THENEONVIBEDEALIO When: Friday, January 3, 2014 Time: 6:30pm Where: Aloha Stadium Course: The parking lot(Participants ran around the parking lot with the make believe that we were running through the swap meet) Water Stations: BOTTLED water NOT cups!!! YAY! Color Stations: Strategically placed throughout the course!(Volunteers were hilarious because those who tried to run around them, they chased and threw color on those trying to skip getting colored) Finished Line: Colored, Bottled Water and an After-Neon Vibe Party(for the youngin’s) Ambiance: Neon-Vibolicious Price: Reasonable Swag: Free Neon Vibe Shirt, Temporary Tattoos, Glow Bracelet, Race Bib Sponsors/Support: Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital teamed up with Neon Vibe because this event benefits the«Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals» The Neon Vibe chose a great date for Hawaii because as I shared in the beginning, what a great way to start off the new year! This is my number 7 run out of 9 runs before the Spartan Race at Aloha Stadium but if you’ve vowed this past holiday season as you were inhaling another rum cake or furikake chex mix that 2014 was THEYEAR of getting fit, then Neon Vibe is a GREAT kick-off to celebrate your decision to start a healthy lifestyle or to enjoy the fun of running. 2014 has a lot of race events for Hawaii. Look it up and get out there and RUN this year!
