Neal S Blaisdell Park

Do any of you remember the two huge turtles that you could climb on and the swings? I miss those! It has been replaced by a jungle gym that seems to be geared more towards kids that already have decent hand/​eye coordination and the ability to climb.
There are restrooms here and lots of space. You can grill here and have big parties, you just need to make sure you come early enough.
As many posts have mentioned, there is a community of homeless people that set up along the park near the water.
This park is a bit scary at night, I don’t think you should venture off alone.
It is a good place to sit back and kill time, possibly relax or snooze while you wait for traffic to die down lol.
KEEP ALL VALUABLES WITH YOU, DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR VEHICLE UNLESS YOU’RE KEEPING AN EYE ON THE CAR ITSELF.
It’s not the best Park but it is a familiar place that I’ll be going back to.

Neal S. Blaisdell Park located in Waimalu. For a little child it is a mighty big park to run around. For an adult it is a good place to have a family outing. That’s my opinion of course.
I remember when I was a little kid I used to run around the park. Mom and I would even take walks along the bike path to go behind the electric company. There were clean water streams back then and could find some crawfish crawling around.
Now that I am older I would go to the park and just find a spot to crash to relax. There’s hardly any families enjoying the park when I show up. All I see are vehicles on one side of the park belonging to construction workers of the sewer line. I also see a bunch of homeless individuals occupying the picnic tables. The homeless even leave their belongings near the restroom facility. I have even seen them set up their tents near the water edge.
I know the park has a section for individuals who want to workout and do exercise. There’s also a playground for the older kids. Is it safe… don’t know for sure. I may have to act like a kid myself to try it out.

Park is very spacious with a few playground areas for kiddos. I have passed by several times before and there always seems to be a large event taking place like a family reunion and today the Juneteenth celebration. I think its a great llace to hold an outdoor event with lots of vendors and activities. There are a reasonable number of trees for shade and I would also reccomend for a party or barbecue. :)

I have been extremely bummed out with the lack of real kid friendly parks on this side of the island. I have been in search to find somewhere to go to take our 5 year old and it always ends up being filthy or just not age appropriate. When we got here today I had high expectations since I had noticed a playground before. I parked (lots of parking which is always a plus), and as my daughter and I walked we noticed that this playground has NO SLIDES! What?! I was pretty ticked off because what playground doesn’t have slides?! This is certainly only for older kids since this playground can be extremely dangerous for younger ones. We decided to then fly her kite and she rode her scooter a good bit, then she saw tons of homeless people by the water and told me «look mommy I see lots of tents».
This is a very beautiful park but sadly it is filled with homeless people, which makes you sad and then cautious. I really wish they had this park a little bit cleaner and more kid friendly. I guess we need to continue searching…

A nice large park near Pearlridge along the crowded streets of the Kamehameha Highway in Aiea. There are large trees that provide plenty of shade. For the most part, there’s a lot of open grassy areas leading up to the water. And also picnic tables and designated areas to have group gatherings.
Unfortunately, as with a lot of the parks in Hawaii, there are the homeless people that hang out here, making it a bit dangerous at times.

Located at the corner of Kaahumanu and Kamehameha in Waimalu, this park should have it all. It’s on the water, has plenty of parking, space and areas to have parties.
However, I will never go there on my own solely because I do not feel safe there. I see a lot of homeless and a lot of unfriendlies frequenting this place. It’s a shame really since this park looks really really nice and has a lot of amenities on the water.

My wife and I passed this park the other day while headed to Sam’s Club and from the street, it looked inviting and like something we’d like to visit.
Within a couple of days, we gave it a try.
Upon first entering the park, everything looked great. Huge open spaces, nice large trees for shade, and over yonder, a beach.
As we were parking, we asked ourselves, «Why is there so much parking on a weekend at a beach park? I wonder if there’s something wrong with this place, or could it be just a hidden gem.»
As we got out of our cars, we noticed a plethora of homeless near the bathrooms, and almost every covered area in the park. Then walking to the water we noticed signs that said the water is contaminated.
Too bad, too, it’s a lot of space, but not a place I feel comfortable bringing my family.

Took my twin daughters here on one of our west side excursions (mostly to let them run around for a bit to burn off some of the car seat energy that had built up over the last 2 hours or so). I noticed that there was some playground equipment that I thought was going to be good place for them to play … however, I realized quickly that it was NOT toddler friendly by any stretch of the imagination. It might be OK for 6 year olds or older, but definitely not safe for 3 year olds. All I could think of was the potential for broken bones or brain injury. And since I had two running in opposite directions it was in my (and their) best interest that we «cut bait» and avoid any trauma whatsoever.
That being said:
— The park itself was quite nice.
— Tons of space with picnic shelters that can be reserved.
— Restrooms.
— It’s on the water with a nice breeze (This is helpful especially on the west side where it’s F’n hot).
— Ample parking, although they may want to repave it relatively soon.
— Super easy to find. No need GPS.
Sadly, there was a smattering of homeless folks around so it made me draw the kids a bit closer, but most parks here have that as a negative, I should be used to it by now.
All in all, it was OK.

I visit Neal Blaisdell Park about once a week for dog training on Saturday mornings. This is a nice park but certainly rough around the edges.
The park is along the edge of Pearl Harbor and has a nice view of Ford Island. The Pearl Harbor biking /​jogging trail runs along the harbor edge of the park. The park is also big enough that it is not usually crowded. Parking is usually not a problem unless there is a large gathering or picnic in the park.
The park does have some low areas in the grass, so if it has rained much during the previous week then the park can be mushy or muddy.
Like most city parks, this park has homeless problems. The homeless camp around the edges of the park during the day and sleep on the tables and around the bathrooms at night. That gives the park that special scent. I sympathize with their plight to a degree, but when I see a homeless woman sitting in her tent playing with her iPhone, I can’t must up too much too much sympathy.

I ride through this park every day on my commute to/​from work. This park has a pretty view. It’s right on the water and overlooks Ford Island. There are a few pavilions for picnicking. I think there is also a playground for the kids to play on. This park is very busy on weekends with multiple get-​togethers going on every weekend. Get there early.

I’ve been to this park many times when I was young just chillin’ and having picnic with the family. I remember always riding or skating along the paths that they have throughout the park even the trail near the water harbor area where it goes all the way from pearl city area to as far as Pearl Kai and the H1 cutoff exit. It’s a great place to exercise. There are mass amounts of grass and space area for you to just do about anything that you like. I would say it is perfect for children and kids to run around all day and play. There is a jungle gym for them to use as well. There aren’t that much table areas like Ala Moana park but there are a few pavilion areas. Most people just set up and tent and just chillax. Sometimes the park holds some small events and stuff. Sometimes you can see booths and bounce houses set up right in the middle of the field next to the Japanese shrine bell tower. The park is right across the street from Kaahumanu St. by Burger King, Goodyear, and Hawaii Self Storage. It’s a pretty convenient park right next to the Pearlridge and Waimalu area. The only sketch thing about this park, however, is just like most open parks, the homelessness, and the restrooms. The parking lot needs some repaving but there is a good amount of parking available.

This park is located on Kam. Highway in Waimalu/​Aiea. It is right across the street from burger king.
It is a pretty nice park with large trees that give you lots of shades. They also have picnic tables under almost all the trees and other areas. So it’s great for a nice quiet lunch with friends or family. They have a bathroom, which I have never used yet, but I’m pretty sure is kept clean. I always see a lot of birthday parties with lots of bouncing castles and balloons, so this park is also good to have large parties! I also see the elderly playing croquet. I’m pretty sure you can do some yoga too. I come here to give my boyfriend’s pet tortoise a nice walk and some exercise. And also to have a little picnic :)
Behind the park is the pearl harbor bike path. This is a very long path, I’m not too sure how long it is exactly, but very good for bikers and runners. On occasion, I do come here to do some running.
They have a large parking area, so you don’t really need to worry too much about finding parking.
Overall, This is a very nice park and if you’re ever in Aiea area and want to relax outdoors, this is the place.
