I shopped for lechon prices 2 months before my mom’s bday and chose Mang Gorio’s lechon because it was cheaper than other lechon makers. After choosing Mang Gorio’s, a few relatives including my dad voiced their concerns about Mang Gorio burning or undercooking their lechon. Some co-workers also chimed in on how some lechon have off putting/bad smells stemming from bad pig selection at the piggery. They also stated that the more expensive the lechon the better the quality. I went into action to make sure I could remedy any«surprises» with my order. I purchased a heat lamp not just to keep the lechon warm but to cook it if it was undercooked as well. I also bought food grade sprayers that I filled with water boiled with lemongrass, garlic, bay leaf, and peppercorns then strained to take care of any off smells. On the day of the event, Mang Gorios delivered my lechon on time and it was perfect. None of it was burned or undercooked. The meat was juicy and fragrant. It’s skin was very crispy and there was no off-putting smell. My carver is a chef at a country club and he stated that the lechon was great. In the end, I used my new heat lamp to keep things warm and presentable. I also did not have to use the lemongrass spray. I used my savings from ordering from Mang Gorio’s to order a humongous chopping board from amazon(18in x 30in =$ 30) to use at my mom’s bday and for more lechon parties to come. For reference: Mang Gorio 130lbs.=$ 366 Other Lechon Specialists 100lbs=$ 400.

In the tradition of the islands and my wife’s culture, we had a huge 1st birthday party for our twins. One of the highlights was the Lechon(suckling pig) and it was absolutely fantastic. .. to the extent that there were NO leftovers what so ever, and in our house that’s almost unheard of. At first I felt that it was a little pricey, but after calling around we found that it was the going rate and, realistically, you are getting an entire cooked pig, and although the delivery fee was extra, we felt it was worth it. The skin was perfectly cooked(crispy) and the meat was juicy and scrumptious. The only downfall of the experience was that we also needed chairs and extra tables for our guest, and although they had these as a rental option, they refused to include them in the original delivery fee. I don’t understand the rational for this so we elected NOT to rent from them and found another vendor. All in all we were very pleased with Mang Gorio’s and most likely we’ll use them again.
