Jelly’s

What an amazing little find! This little gem is 1 of 2 Jelly’s stores, the other being in Honolulu on Auahi.
You walk in and immediately you’re taken back in time by your olfactory senses. The reminiscent smell of old records, tapes, and magazines. This store has plenty to offer my nostslgic self! I find myself frequenting one or both of these establishments a few times a month, hoping to snag a vinyl that takes me back to my younger years.
They have comic books, action figures, books, tapes, 8– tracks, DVDs, VHS, Blu-​ray, and I’ve even found a few mint-​condition CDs, as well. Now if only I could find my laser disc player…
The store is what it is. I can’t hold it to the same expectations I would, say, a store in Ala Moana. They try to keep everything organized, but scavengers come through and disrupt the order. It has the feel of a thrift shop, but with stuff I like haha. Their current music even posters have helped me realize the various entertainment acts coming through Hawaii!
Now, after writing this, I want to go back…

Just had the best experience ever! Took a non working Nintendo console in to see if they could help me. Jessie took me to the back and showed me how to hook it all up and how to clean it, mess with it until it worked!!! Super friendly staff, so helpful! Will never go anywhere else besides here for comics and games from now on!

I don’t know why but I always get looked at funny when I go into Jelly’s. Well, I don’t notice it so much anymore but when I started going back in the day in the 8^th grade, the dude behind the counter in the card section (which is no longer there) would look at me super weird like I didn’t belong. That happened all throughout high school and a little while after high school different workers would give me weird looks.
Am I supposed to look like a hippie older dude with a full beard? Should I be a hunched over guy with black rimmed glasses and suspenders? What?
In any case, the weirdness I always got when going in there is why they lost a star for me. Other than that though, I really love this place for random books, board games, comics and manga. The manga section isn’t as great as it used to be though. I used to buy up all the «starter» bundles where they would bundle an entire 12 or 16 volume manga together and sell it for like $ 30.
This is also an awesome place to shop for nerdy people. Jelly’s sells figures and some other fandom merchandise and collectables.
One thing I can’t rate is the music selection. I have never ever come in here to shop for music. I’ve always been confused as to why people do. Cassettes? CD’s? Records? What are those things?!
Just kidding. I grew up with the cassette, but by the time I was old enough to go into Jelly’s alone, music had already been highly digitized. I was already getting my music from online back in 1999. (I had a computer since I was in the first grade, in like ’91). I know there’s a small following of people who are still record enthusiasts and collect old music tapes and CD’s but I always wished Jelly’s focused a lot more on comics, games, manga, animé and such. The music area felt so pointless to me.
As far as overall selection goes, it seems that most of their merchandise is acquired through second-​hand means so don’t go in there expecting there to be an actual «stock» of new merchandise. I don’t think the owner or managers ever purchase any new products for resale and if they do it’s a single item, single figure, single DVD set, etc.
All in all though, Jelly’s doesn’t try to be more than what it is. They don’t misrepresent themselves. Jelly’s has always been Jelly’s so I didn’t see any reason to rate them low because they aren’t as great as a typical collectors retail store. I would classify them as a consignment collectibles shop. And they are pretty good at being that.

Been going here for a while and every time I go I have to stop myself from spending my whole paycheck. Boasting an incredible large selection of used books, CDs, records, comics, DVDs and more this place has something for everyone. The location is somewhat out of the way being located in Aiea by the Best Buy but it is definitely worth the trip to rifle through their stacks of books. For comic collectors this spot is one of the better places to find good back issues at decent prices. If you are looking to sell your old books, CDs or whatever I have found them not as competitive price wise as some other places in town however on the plus side they will take almost anything you have.

So Jelly’s wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I think I thought, that because it had multiple locations, it was going to be akin to Golden Apple in LA. It is not. So Jelly’s has a decent array of older comic books (don’t expect to find new releases here, but you might), DVDs, VHS tapes (WHAT?! Does anyone still even own a VCR?!), vinyl (ok their sound is superior), and books. It seems like a great place to get lost for a couple of hours and kill time, but expect your standard comic book store experience. IE you won’t really be spoken to and left to your own devices.
Sadly because I was looking for something specific (Book 2 of Y: The Last Man), and couldn’t find it, this place is just Ok to me.
I do plan to go back soon to kill some time though.
Oh and don’t forget, there’s no LARPing on the 2^nd floor.

Jelly’s survived the trials of time when the comic industry crashed. While the allure of hologram comic covers faded, Jelly’s popularity has not.
This gem remained in business over decades for a reason. You can count on Jelly’s as a reliable and comprehensive source of comic books, in addition to music, books, and collectibles.
Jelly’s has recently stopped bringing in new issues of comics, but is able to order trade or graphic novels. They are still hook you up with buyers for comic books, action figures, and statues.
If you’re a die hard collector who likes to deal locally, stop by Jelly’s. You might find that rare figurine to complete your set.

I can’t believe there still is a Jelly’s! Took me back to my high school, 102.7fm radio free Hawaii days… I even found a beavis n butthead comic lol. Comics, used books n CDs, sheet music n vinyl.

I love you. Don’t ever leave me. I know I’ve cheated on you with ebooks and whatnot but I’ll always come back to you.

For LP’s the place is great if you’re looking for 70’s era rock. Good selection. A bit pricey for the quality but clean and well organized.

One of the BEST used book stores on the island. Really great customer service, the guy behind the counter quickly refunded my defected DVD in like 30 seconds. They also have a really great selection of books and dvd’s, prices BEAT Bookoff by a huge margin. You can find some great out of print books and CD’s for a great bargain. They recently redid this location, so it is much more organized and clean.

Jelly’s, considering that you’re a used book store with tons of cool comic books… you could stand to be a little nicer. Your «associates» look like they’re ready to pass out from boredom at any minute. I called earlier today to confirm that they were open since THE SIGN said it was CLOSED. A very condescending woman answered and told me «uhh YEAH we’re open, that’s why I answered the phone.»
Wrong answer.
If you’re a respectable business you come in earlier and stay later than the shop’s open hours to maintain the floor, CLEAN, and stock.
So obviously this must not be done.
When I go in I see the very rude woman hunched over the register with her eyes glued to her phone. Nice loss prevention behavior.
Also, let’s talk about RIP OFF. The Japanese magazines are retailed at $ 33 FOR USED when they’re not even that much brand new!
If you’re gonna rip me off, at least be nice about it.

I consider myself a regular at both locations, I come here just for their records and occasional action figures. I almost always leave with something. I love when they have their sidewalk sales! Workers are always friendly and chill, I have nothing negative to say. Definitely recommend it!

This place has been open FOREVER! I remember coming here when I was younger to get all my hip-​hop cd’s. I’m glad they’re still open! CDs, tapes, vinyls, movies… they got it!

Looking for a comic book? Theyve got it. Looking for an old movie? Theyve got it. Looking for some awesome toys based on videos game and popular comic book characters? Need I say more?
Jellys has a bunch of stuff. Every time I go there I head to the toys and check out what new action figures they have. Theyre a bit on the expensive side. But if youre a collector or want to star a collection and if money is not a problem for you, then this is your place.
They even have walking dead comics… awesome! I like that they have older DVDs. I used to go to suncoast and other places. But when they closed down finding older movies got a lot harder. But Jellys has a pretty good selection.
They even buy stuff from you. If you come in with your old DVDs or comic books, theyll buy it from you. But only on certain days and times. Im not sure what the days are but I know theyll stop buying stuff at 2 pm.
Aside from the prices the workers seem a bit lost. I called once and after waiting for someone to get an answer from someone else, I hung up and ended up going to the store. After looking around for a little bit, I asked someone the same question and he didnt know the answer. Didnt even see me… might as well had been on the oppisite side of the store… mightve gotten a better reaction. It didnt sound like the guy I talked to on the phone. I dont know why but they just seem kind of lost.
Aside from that, Jellys is like nerd heaven. Im sure you could find something from your childhood here.

At one point in time, I spent my weekends on a quest to find all the LOST set locations.
In one of Hurley’s flashbacks, he flirted with a very cute woman who worked at a records store. This store, ladies and gentleman, happened to be Jelly’s in Aiea.
First I was walking around trying to place all the shots from the show, taking pictures on the way. However, I put the camera phone down and realized I was in the neatest used bookstore ever. They had the entire series of Dr. Quinn for $ 15, which I nabbed immediately. I bought my Harry Potter collection for $ 5 each. They test the discs before they put them on the shelves, which already places them light years above Goodwill. I love that they have a pretty extensive used books section.
They are probably most known for their comic book selection. I tried to get back into reading comic books, but the monthly subscription seemed a little steep for me. However, this is a great place if you’re into that stuff.

We Unilocaled Best Buy because we were lost and needed to find a best buy, I KNEW it was off Kam High way but *someone* thought other wise (why do men have to be like that!)
So we click the Unilocal address and it brings us to this super random cul de sac/​strip mall of tiny stores… we drive in to turn around to find best buy and BAM I see the sign for Jellys and see comics in the windows. My husbands eyes lit up and I knew we were going to stop in.
At most places on this island when we walk in, people wonder. hmmm big chocolate man, little asian woman, lets not acknowledge them, but that was not the case here! The staff was very friendly and I think that they could see past my husbands hard exterior. They knew behind all those gorgeous muscles and tight fitted shirt was a nerdy man who loved his share of comics and music.
I didn’t think much of it, since the place from the outside looks like a warehouse, but upon walking in you are greeted by a very nice staff. There are records, guitars, comics, movies, and the best part… books. OMG, their used book section is cheap and amazing. I found books that I read in college and haven’t seen in years! I loved it! You could easily kill a couple hours in here without trying. Such a great gem in such a little random place!

Now that vinyl is making a comeback, this place is a gold mine!
Imagine a time capsule from the 70s. People carefully placed all the valuable things of that time and culture into one big warehouse. Since fashion wasn’t one of them, they overstocked what was the only good thing of the time period – music on vinyl.
Remember all the 70s metal bands? Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult. All on vinyl.
Remember 70s top 40? Carpenters, Simon and Garfunkel, Chicago. All on vinyl.
The Jazz selection is vast as well.
I remember as a kid being in a record store and spending hours flipping through records. You have that same feeling here getting carpal tunnel syndrome before finding a hidden treasure.
They have other formats of music as well. CDs, DVDs, Casettes, and 8-​track!!!
They also have a vast collection of comics, books, animé graphic, and actual musical instruments.
I left with my treasure… Getz/​Gilberto on vinyl. The one with the «Girl From Ipanema.»
All I need now is a martini and a silk robe with leopard print lapels.

I enjoy that they have books, music, and games all in one store at (usually) cheaper prices. Most of the things are secondhand, so you can purchase a lot of good things at a lower price. I love that!
I must admit, the place wasn’t looking very well for a while. It was very cluttered (especially in the games section) but they are working towards making it look less cluttered by better organizing their things, and I appreciate that lol. Some of their air conditioners are having leaking problems. I hope they can work on that.
The customer service really depends on the person, sadly. There are days where I’d see someone looking for help and none of the sales clerks would assist them and if someone is looking for something, they’ll just point them in the direction. I don’t know, that seems a bit odd to me. If it were me, I’d make sure at least one of the registers is covered and if it is, I’d lead the person to the area they’d need to look.
They usually have some sort of sale going on.
