History

Established in 1963.

In 1963, Bob Farrell and Ken McCarthy opened the first Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Portland, Oregon. They wanted to create a business that celebrated life’s special occasions and events with family, friends and others over good, old fashioned ice cream and food. Bob and Ken created a business where happiness was contagious — and still is. By 1970 the company had grown to 58 restaurants.

For many years Farrell’s left an indelible mark on Hawaii, having as many as eight locations throughout the state. Aside from Kahala Mall there were locations at Ala Moana Shopping Center, International Market Place, Royal Hawaiian Center, Kaneohe, Market Place at Coconut Plantation on Kauai and on Maui. These locations closed in the 1980s.

Since then, ownership has passed through many hands. On the Mainland, Parlour Enterprises Inc. has taken steps to resurrect the old glory days of Farrell’s. For Hawaii’s part, it has come to rest with E Noa Corporation.
