I just love this place. The sweetest ladies ever. Sonia and Ms. Edine made me feel really comfortable and worked hard to make my eyebrows be at its best. Love these ladies!

I was on the ultimate quest for a no-​smear liner & let’s face it, no product can live up to that. This led me to conduct extensive Googling on the pros & cons of cosmetic tattoos. With none other than trusty Unilocal,I found Face It Permanent Make Up Center & I made an appointment with Edine for the top eyeliner tattoo procedure.
Prior to the procedure, there was a thorough consultation about how I wanted my liner, the procedure process & any questions that I had. Edine was a sociable person & seemed knowledgeable about cosmetic tattooing. Afterwards, I was lying down with my eyes closed. Edine smothered numbing cream on my lids & waited about five minutes for the numbing to take effect. I had a strong urge to open my eyes, but Edine reassured my she had a death grip on it. The feeling? Just a bunch of ticklish prickles on the skin of my eyeballs. No biggie.
After the procedure, Edine put an ice pack over my eyes for 10 minutes & had her assistant go over aftercare procedures. The swelling went away after two days & I was ecstatic about waking up with makeup, but I wanted the eyeliner thicker.
Eight months later, I’m back under the needle. The liner came out way thicker than I wanted with uneven, rounded ends, which Edine said was due to swelling. I instantly regretted the tattoo, especially since I still have to draw the ends out to make it even which makes the liner look more thicker. With a college student budget, I wasn’t willing to pay the full retouch price to get it fixed, but I’m not sure how you can make it thinner without laser removal. It should of been done right the first time.
For the premium prices with an experienced professional, I was expecting it to be close to perfect so I decided to let this one fade on its own…

I LOVE my results! I recently had my eyebrows done my Edine and I couldn’t be happier!
Lala was the first person I spoke to when making my initial appointment for my consultation. She answered all of my questions, booked my appointment in a professional and timely manner and through it all she was funny and a delight to talk to.
Upon my arrival I have to admit I was nervous! However, after speaking to Edine, I became excited and I couldn’t wait to have the procedure done! Edine is AMAZING! She explains the process in great detail and she has this passion for what she does. Her work is a reflection of that and the results are unreal! The numbing cream they use is the bomb and I felt NO PAIN!!! I also had no downtime and my results are fabulous! I don’t know why I waited so long to do this!

Face it, no pun intended. If you are considering doing permanent make-​up you’ll be smart to shop and read reviews! I am seven days into my procedure for upper and lower eyeliner. And YES, Edine is ALL that and then Some! Being in the room with her and the other ladies is like having fun with your best friends… I was surprised out of all the color selections and options, she and I were on the same page. And I wore no make-​up to my appointment. Which by the way was two days after I e-​mailed the office… I had my first ever lip procedure 2 months ago by Dr. Yew. (A Prince), and he recommended Edine if I decided to do my eye liner! I am so happy when I wake-​up. I’ll be brushing my teeth and saying, «YES» as I look in the mirror at my eyes. Good riddance eye pencils and crayons!!! Because I always line my eyes my friends didn’t notice, they just said, you sure look pretty today. Then I would tell them. Now they all want Edine’s magical gift! Excited!!! I’ll soon have my follow –up appointment and Edine is going to line and color my lips. The ones that Dr. Yew made irresistible to my husband of 34 years! In summation, if you are going to do permanent make up go to the best! You are worth it! Have fun, I did! It’s really rare that I take the time to write reviews on Unilocal.The main reason is I am extremely picky and I never feel quite compelled.
This is my objective/​subjective rave for Edine, Lala and the Ward Face-​it location.
So in a nutshell, I want to approach this review as objectively as I can where it matters the most, in hopes to provide value to others with useful information.
When it comes to something like this, I agree that overall service, professionalism and location/​place all matters and that all are part of the overall experience but when it comes down to it, the question is, is the work high quality and will you get the results you are looking for.
I believe the answer is, YES.
EDINE:
I love Edine and even though that’s not a very objective statement I’ll back this up with objective reasons.
SKILL & EXPERTISE:
Skill is where I think the rubber meets the road with something like this. I have no doubt in my mind Edine is extremely skilled. She has alot of experience to give her a broad knowledge base in technique and approach but she’s also an artist. She has a great eye for detail and she is great at creating symmetry even when our natural face lacks it.
I am also an artist at the core and extremely detailed oriented so when I go home to take a closer look at my makeup, I can see that she only does top notch work.
Not to mention, she trains and teaches classes in permanent makeup. Which means she is the authority in permanent makeup on the island. I did my research looking for the best in Honolulu and I found Edine and I’m very pleased that I did.
PERSONALITY: Edine is like a friend. She’s extremely sweet and warm. She’s a great listener. She’s very loving and I can totally feel that she cares about me, my satisfaction and wants to do the best for me. She is also very patient and will discuss all the details of the procedure and share her thought process with me so we can work together on the best solution and approach for the makeup.
At this point, I’m quite loyal and don’t really trust anyone else with my face.
LALA:
Lala is great! She is the first person you will see when you walk through the door at the Ward location. She’s very helpful and accomodating and I run to her as a second opinion on my makeup choices (pre-​permanent) and she will give you a genuine answer. She is very sweet on the phone, easy to talk to. If you have any jitters before the procedure I’m sure she’ll make you feel better. Also, she’s a great one to see you out the door cuz I felt alittle battered up after my procedures (got eyebrows, eyeliner, lips done) and it really does make you feel better when she see’s you and tells you it looks great! You want to believe her even though your face is swollen and you walk out the door happy.
LOCATION:
The ward location has been upgraded and it’s very nice and clean. The décor is nice and calming.
THE MAKEUP ITSELF:
I really like the permanent makeup. My only challenge is that my skin is a bit atypical and won’t hold pigment well. It does sound like I am the exception and not the rule, not surprising since I tend to fit this trend in many areas of my life. That being said, Edine and Face-​it seem to be extra accommodating because I really believe Edine cares and she wants to figure out the best approach for me. So we talked and we brainstormed together, trying out different options and even though it’s early to see the longevity of my most recent makeup application, I feel confident that Edine and I will find a way to make it work out beautifully!

Went back to Edine (GODDESS) who was finally able to make me look normal again after Donna Reed’s nightmarish job. She is so kind, nice, funny and takes care of you!
My eyeliner is no longer THICK AND BLACK. she camouflaged most of the thickness and went over the blue/​black color with dark brown. I love it and her!
I’m no longer self conscious about my eyeliner. She have me my confidence back!
She uses professional grade numbing cream and is super fast and awesome!

If you’ve read my previous review strictly about customer service, I’m here changing it because this delightful woman called me back & was super sweet and squeezed us in! She really was as sweet as pie and it made me super stoked about getting my brows done… Away with the disappearing eyebrows! Now hopefully I can update this review to five stars after my service!

I can’t express how awesome Edine is! Not only have i came here for my eyeliner, but I’ve decided to get my lips done with her as well. She is extremely helpful and doesn’t pressure you in any procedures. Overall, Edine makes you feel comfortable knowing that you will end up with great results. Also the front desk girl, Lala is a superstar! She has always made sure to call me back and schedule me sooner when someone cancels. I highly recommend this place:)

I have my eye brows and top eyeliners done. Very happy with the services. Both Edine and Charnae are very nice and experienced. I have to have my eyeliners touch up twice because my skin is rejecting both micro-​pigment and tattoo ink. Finally the third tried was successful.
I was really scared about the pain but it was not that bad at all. If you want to have your brows and eyeliners done, this is the place. They are pricey but it is worth it. I am highly recommended their services.
They are very busy so you need to call for appointment way in advance especially they have two locations.

Let me start off by saying it’s been about 8 weeks since I had my brows re-​done and I am LOVING the final result!
Now, LONG STORY SHORT: back in highschool I used to get my brows waxes every couple of weeks at a high end salon in Honolulu but when the normal tech I had been going to consistently went on vacation for a month, I decided to see someone else in the same salon because my brows were getting too furry for me to wait for her return — BIG MISTAKE! The wax the new lady put on me was too hot and basically destroyed my brows… they never grew back the same after that! I decided to get them tattooed a few years later which ended up being another BIG MISTAKE! It was about 10 years ago when the original lady who did my eye brow tattoos (some location down by Fort Street) recommended I go with a dark brown ink because she said the black ink would eventually fade into a blue/​green over time, However after about 6 or so years, my dark brown brows had completely faded away into a light blue/​green! Since then I had been forced to us brow powder to cover them up, but grew very tired of doing this as a mandatory part of my makeup routine.
About a year ago, I had heard about Face It from my sister who had gone in for consulation for her brows, I’ve been living on the mainland so I kept in contact through the salon via email to set up an appointment for brow correction the next time I was home. Even though it was during the Thanksgiving holiday, I was able to get in for an appointment during my quick trip home.
I saw Charnae who consulted with me first (asking about how I currently did my brows and what look I was trying to achieve). The owner and master tech, Edine came in during the consult to give me her recommendation of going with tattoo ink to cover and correct my old brow tattoo. I was hesitant at first since I went in with the intent on doing the powder effect with micro-​pigmentation rather than tattoo ink because of my previous bad experience — however, during the consult Charnae informed me that the tattoo ink I had before, although started off a dark brown, probably still had some small amounts of black ink mixed in and thus resulted in the light blue/​green ink change over time. She assured me that the ink technology these days was much better and that it would not happen this time. Charnae and Edine both educated me on the differences between the tattoo ink vs mirco-​pigment, and I decided to go with the tattoo ink again since it would not fade as quickly as the mirco-​pigment and therefore would be a more permanent solution to my problem. Since my intention was to cover up the old tattoo, I decided to go ahead with their recommendation and chose to go with the tattoo ink. After applying topical (numbing agent, takes about 30 mins to kick in) to the brow area to be tattooed, Charnae went over several color charts with me to find the best shade to match my hair/​makeup. In order to correct the color, she let me know she would first have to apply a color to cover and counter the blue/​green tone before applying the desired chesnut/​brown color I wanted. I was nervous because the first color would be a copper/​orange like color but after the first application of this copper color I could already see the difference in the tone and shape of my brows — bye bye blue! The second application over this copper color was the chesnut/​brown color, both applications was about 20 – 30 mins each. After the tattooing was done, Charnae put ice packs over the tattooed area for about 10 mins and then handed me the mirror… I WAS ECSTATIC! Not only was the old tattoo covered up, but the shape of my brows had been corrected!
The initial color was as expected, darker than I had wanted and the area was tender for the first few days. I started to peel after about a week, and then my healing process took about 4 weeks. The color of the brows had lightened after the peeling, but over the course of the next 3 – 4 weeks the color darkened to pretty much the desired color I wanted. I am very happy with my results and now I can finally wake up in the morning with my «face» on – definitely saves me time and energy!
BIG MAHALO to Charnae, Edine and Lala for all your help with my eye brow correction! My advice to everyone thinking about getting permanent makeup? GET IT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

I purchased a gift certificate for my wife which covers the eyebrows. My wife is very pleased with the results and would definitely go back for a touch up when needed. Edine was very professional and confident. She and the staff were very easy to work with.

Upon having two separate phone conversations with this company and being quoted a price of «between 500. and 1000.» for the procedures I’d inquired about, I have the following to say:
I’m sorry but I don’t appreciate the fact that a company cannot book clients for even a consult for a month and a half. I wanted cosmetic eyeliner and brows done for my birthday which was in a few days but was willing to wait up to a month for a consult.
I also do not appreciate a company using their «lack of appointment availability» as a representation of how good they are at the services they perform because their lack of staffing is not and should not be used as a marketing ploy. I was actually told: «there is a waiting list until January for a consultation; she’s THAT good». Um… read on.
I’d found another EXCELLENT artist for micropigmentation on Unilocal.The reviews were all 5 stars and the price WAS definitely the best in town. I had the consultation and procedure within a week and a half. The result of my eyeliner (top and bottom) AND brows were wonderful, precise and the service was performed with very much care and attention to detail. Additionally, I will have 1 – 2 touch ups 6 weeks apart (to allow for healing and color settling) for the price I paid which was far less than expected compared to this place.
I am by no means saying that this place does not perform quality work, nor am I saying that they are not customer service oriented. What I am saying is that I’m not easily deceived and that I believe that there is more to it than meets the eye.
I would like to note that while trying to be fair… we should be aware and be allowed to base our decisions on information provided from various perspectives. I just noticed the ‘not currently recommended’ reviews for this business on Unilocal which helped me to better reinforce my first impression.

Ive been to Face It 3 times now. I got my eyebrows, top and bottom eye liner done by Edine. She and her staff are super friendly. Edine will walk you through the procedure and explain everything. She does aim to please and makes you feel comfortable. My only problem is the salon is PRICEY. I don’t mind paying for what I want. My problem was I got the groupon and was not allowed to use it and still had to pay for the procedures WTH. I dont know who to be upset with face it or groupon. I am picky and s perfectionist when it comes to my eyebrows, makeup, and hair so I will be back as I still want a retouch as I’ m not 100% Satisfied, but again I’m picky. Edin is super nice about this and doesn’t act like it is bothersome Which is comforting.

I’ve been their customer since about 2007. I first did my eyeliner and then last year did my eyebrows and eyeliner touch up. I didn’t ‘need’ a touch up on the eyeliner because it wasn’t really faded (5 years) but I just wanted it darker. I absolutely LOVE the convenience of not having to put my eyeliner and eyebrows on everyday. When I do dress up, I still put makeup on, but that’s only if I want a dramatic look. At least I still look like I have makeup on even after I wash my face. My friends always ask, «how do you keep your eyeliner from running or smearing?» When I tell them that it’s permanent, they compliment me on how natural it looks.

Renee the receptionist and I played phone tag for a while before we got in touch and I booked my appointment. (I’m a night nurse and it’s hard for me to talk to normal people in normal business hours!)
Went in to get my lash enhancers, and took my mom along for her eyebrows. I met Renee and got my paperwork started, and met Josalyn, who worked on both my eyes and my mom’s brows. Josalyn was fantastic! Professional, knowledgeable, very skilled, super attentive to our comfort, and also really… soothing to be around. We started with a consultation, talking about what we were looking for in our procedures. She explained our options, procedures, aftercare. She was very thorough and patient. The actual procedures went by quickly it seemed. Josalyn applied lidocaine cream to my lashline and allowed time for it to take effect. When she got started, I felt no pain, just a ticklish sensation from the machine vibrating against my eyeball. She was very meticulous and also made sure that she was reapplying lidocaine to keep me comfortable. When I was done, ice pack was applied, and I waited for my mom to get her brows done. Same process, lidocaine cream, pigment application, check, recheck, touchup, check again, and pau. Aftercare was reviewed, we paid, and we were on our way.
Four days later, I’ve already shed my scab/​crust, and I’ve got the most delicate subtle enhancement to my lashline, just as I wanted! I’m so excited to see the end result in a few weeks!!!

At first I was unsure of getting it done. Read the reviews of previous Unilocal reviews. Went for the introduction on the procedure. Edine explained everything thoroughly in her work and explained my options of which eye brow procedure I would like to attempt. Well, I got it done and I loved it. Yes! I loved it… I am going for a follow up with Nadine next week. For anyone not knowing whats going on, I would recommend to ask alot of questions and what to expect. She’s awesome… I loved it because one less thing to put on when putting on my makeup. A place you must look into and having it done **** you will never reqret it *** it’s an awesome place. I am looking forward in the permanent eyeliner procedure soon.

I got my eye brows and eyeliner done here by Joslyn. She is the BEST! I am totally in love with my permanent make up and can’t stop staring at the great work she’s done. Totally LOVE this place and won’t go anywhere else.

I have been here 3 – 4 times for tattoo removal and today for brows. Edine is great! She fixed a mess that another person made of my eyebrows. She is very personable and knowledgeable. Edine will meet with you to discuss your options and prices.
Edine is just one person and has two locations, so you have to book her 1 – 2 months in-​advance. She is worth the wait~ I love my brows!

I have a thyroid condition and one of the symptoms is hair loss on eyebrows. I was referred to Face it and had them done by Edine in 2007.
She told me they would fade in 2 – 4 years and by 2011 I really needed to go back in. My appt was 10÷18÷11. Edine was still as professional as ever. She had my original consul pictures and we talked about the shape and color again and decided to go a little darker. I was nervous to go to dark but I trust her with the color. The procedure took about 25 minutes. When it was done my eyebrows were very dark and I was really worried. As she said in 4 – 5 days my eyebrows would peel and leave the intended color. Not even a week later they peeled and look FAB! She is a master at the art. My eyebrows look natural and the color fits my hair tone perfectly! I am very happy! Mahao Edine!

I’ve been seeing my waxer for about 12 years now. Recently when she was waxing my eyebrows, I mentioned to her that her eyebrows always look so perfect. She told me they were tattooed and I was absolutely shocked! All these years I’ve known her I had no idea they were tattooed. Even now as she stood just feet away from my face, I still couldn’t believe it. She gave me the business card of Edine Swain of Face It Permanent Makeup Center. Oddly, in a random conversation with someone else later that same day, Edine was also recommended to me by friend of the family. I figured I had to check her out – it seemed to be my destiny.
After browsing her website, I was thoroughly confused about which style would be best for me, but convinced she could do good work, so I called to schedule a consult. Her bubbly, friendly receptionist answered and I scheduled my consultation appointment.
Edine is very thorough and knows her stuff. She answered questions I wanted to ask before I asked them. She spent about an hour with me and what I thought was great was that she thanked me for coming in for a consultation! She said she does many corrections (from other tattoo locations) because people don’t take the time to learn about the process (ink, shape, etc.) before they have the permanent make up done. She listened to all my concerns and problems and I felt extremely comfortable talking to her.
After my consultation, I was really excited (and a little nervous) to have the work done. I scheduled an appointment to have my eyebrows and a beauty mark (to cover a chicken pox scar) done the following week. The receptionist gave me a detailed handout with instructions for before and after the procedure to mull over before the actual big day.
On the day of the procedure, a topical numbing cream was applied to the areas I was having tattooed. After a few minutes, Edine started her work. It wasn’t painful at all in the beginning but they explained everyone responds differently. Eventually as the numbing cream started to wear off, the pain ranged from being stuck with a needle to getting shots on my eyebrow line. It was hardly unbearable and definitely worth it.
The day I left, I was terrified that I would look like Ronald McDonald for the next few years, but I’m 5 days post-​procedure and happy with my results. I have to return in 5 weeks for a free retouch to fill in areas where my body has kicked the ink out and fine tune areas that I need redone. The shape isn’t exactly how I wanted it but I’m sure Edine can make the adjustments that I want and make it perfect. My eyebrows were far from perfect to begin with which is why I wanted this done to begin with.
The day after my tattoo, someone from the office even called to see how I was doing and hear out any concerns I had.
Edine and her staff are great. I would and have totally recommended her because her work is amazing. It’s not your typical permanent make up… Edine’s skills are absolutely amazing and my eyebrows look like hair rather than a tattoo. I’m really happy with the results!
