Business Owner

Richard grew up in California. Sculpture and building are his first loves. He taught bronze casting and steel sculpture at Otis, and was Director of Technical Support at the Otis Art Institute. He owned and operated the Kraft Art Studios to provide artists studio space in Santa Monica and West Los Angeles. Richard loves to build homes and has built several. His vast technical abilities, knowledge of construction, proper installation, and determination to excel in his profession truly lend to his title of the «Appliance Whisperer.» He has several appliance certifications. Richard’s approach to appliance repair is to solve the problem, fix the machine, replace only the parts which are necessary and to provide excellent honest service to his customers.

They have been very helpful. My dishwasher died and my extended warranty/insurance company referred me to Mr Appliance. The Plumber, Sam, was very nice and explained what was going on with my dishwasher. He arrived on time. They required more parts and the scheduler was very proactive about scheduling the followup visit. I cannot speak to the cost because I only had to cover the deductible for my insurance plan.

I DO NOT recommend this company. I just received a bill for $ 420 for a job done a year and a half ago– a job which I did not owe anything in the first place as my appliance was under warranty! They made it seem like their billing was mismanaged before and that this bill was a mistake, but considering the other reviews I’m not buying it. Beware

I would suggest staying far away from this company. I had a rental house and the tenants had them out to check the refrigerator. They called me and told me it was a cold control and wanted over $ 600 to fix it. I did not approve the repair. I had my own technician repair it and it was not the cold control as they had diagnosed. This was in April of 2014. In late June of 2015 I received a call from a collection agency demanding payment for over $ 670 for them, even though they had never sent me a bill. I explained that i never authorized any work on my property and they also didn’t do the work. They sent me a photo of the invoice with a fake signature of just a curved line!!! That looks like forgery to me. The collection agency then said they had checked with the company and they had tried to call me but I never authorized the work so I just owed $ 79 for the trip charge (for a misdiagnosis). I offered to pay that and then the collection agency said there were 2 trip charges. I told them there was only one and again they checked with their client and verified that there was only one. At this point I wanted it in writing so I emailed them to verify $ 79 was the amount due and it was payment in full they confirmed it, I paid, end of story. Until today when the collection agency called me again to try to collect again. I am tired of being harassed for money I do not owe! Be very careful.

This company is easy enough to deal with, but I have to say I feel taken advantage of.
A technician arrived to look into a problem with a washing machine. 30 minutes later the problem was fixed, apparently the drain was clogged.
Then I get the bill… $ 235!!! I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t make $ 470/hour and I don’t think it is in any way fair to ask someone to pay that much… INSANE.
Asked them to not charge my card before speaking to the manager — they did charge it, and the manager never called me. Poor company

He came to my house, and stated that he could not fix my washer and dryer. He said that I should replace it. All fine and dandy, but he took his money, and didn’t leave me a receipt, or any specific information as to what was wrong. I called them 3 times over 2 weeks, before finally getting someone to email me an invoice! I’m not saying the guys doesn’t know what he is doing, but professionalism is certainly lacking.

TOTAL DISASTER.
This guy was incompetent in converting LYNX BBQ from LPG to NG. He could not read the diagrams to figure out which part goes to where.
He was constantly on the phone with his wife during the job on their personal matters, He also disappeared from the job for an hour.
Finally he got upset and lost himself. He banged his metal tools against the concrete floor of my backyard, shouting «shit, shit, shit, shit.»
I refused to pay for the «job» of this idiot. I told LYNX about this incident, and the LYNX person said I am right not to pay.
This idiot’s name is Chris. I have not heard back from the owner of Mr. Appliance (supposed to be Richard).
Don’t use this company. If you have to use them, just ask not to send Chris with horrible tattoos on his arm.

Richard was right on time as promised. He spent his time with my Dacor stove top which is 20 years ol. Parts he is going to research out due too the age of the stove top. Found him very professional. I did have a issue once he left, called him and he came right back. i appreciated that. I am impressed with his prior reviews

After a few days of inconsistent temperature control from my wine cabinet, I called my regular appliance shop. Unfortunately, they don’t deal with wine cabinets, so a call to Vinotemp (the manufacturer) netted a couple repair shops in my area, one of which was Richard Kraft at Mr. Appliance.
I briefly described the problem to Richard, and his initial impression was that I had an issue with the digital controller/thermostat. A visit from Adam the Tech confirmed the original diagnosis (adding a dirty coil and bad electrical relay to the mix). And unfortunately, the compressor would have to be taken back to the shop for repair. This could have been more of an issue with 400 bottles of perishable wine sitting at room temperature during the summer, but it’s been a mild summer, my air conditioning is top-notch, and the shop brought the device back in working order less than 48 hours later, and I was pretty happy with that.
The good: Richard and Marina were fantastic to deal with on the phone, the appointment windows were only 2 hours (and the tech showed up promptly at the beginning of that window), and most importantly, I have a wine cabinet that works as well as it did when it was delivered almost 5 years ago.
The less-than-good: Though undoubtedly competent, the tech was somewhat brusque in a time when customer service is more important than ever. And the price ($ 385) was somewhat high for the parts needed and worked performed, in my opinion. But much better than having to buy a new compressor at $ 1,000 or more.
The bottom line: Overall, a pretty good experience in a field where I have had some of the worst experiences in the history of customer service. I will add them to my very short list of trusted appliance contractors.

When you want the job done right the first time!!!
My 5 year old Whirlpool dryer wouldn’t heat any more. I originally called another local service I found on Unilocal.They came out the next day and «replaced» a coil kit. The entire service took no more than 20 mins and cost me $ 190. The tech told me I need to get my dryer vents cleaned but that this was not a service their company offered. This is when I found Mr. Appliance. After speaking to the customer service office, (Sonya, Marina and Kate), the wonderfully kind ladies worked their magic and squeezed me the day I called. I thought I had needed my dryer vent cleaned, however, when the tech Adam arrived, he took the time to investigate fully why my dryer still wasn’t heating properly. It took Adam less than 10 minutes to find that the inside of my dryer was clogged and needed cleaning. Typically this is a service the original company I called should have handled. (They will be receiving a BAD review from me!!!) Adam even questioned if it was even necessary to replace the coils in the first place. Anyhow, on the positive side, Mr. Appliance will now be my go to appliance repair company.

The repair man was adept and courteous, I thought I was being overcharged for the amount of work that he had done but I paid him anyway and thought I would bring it up with the management. I called them the next day to discuss this concern and also to retrieve a coupon which they were suppose to apply to my bill and they did not. The owner/manger was very rude and dismissive. He kept telling me that I should have been charged even more without any explanation. He told me that he did not want to talk to me or hear me and we got disconnected. I am not sure if he hung up on me or if the line got disconnected. I will never do business with them again and I will not recommend their service.

Tech arrived, over-talked me while I was trying to explain what the problem was with the dryer. Said, as he over-talked me, that «he’d been doing this for years»…at that point I had to walk away. Husband dealt with him from there. Ended up buying a dryer from them directly (estimate was huge to fix ours) and they promised a year warranty on it, said they’d email it to us the next day. Did they email it? NOPE. Called and left messages, emailed… and still no warranty. It’s been weeks… hope it doesn’t break…
2 stars only because the dryer is still working. will update if they send warranty.
EDIT: Warranty arrived by mail on March 4^th.

Richard is the only guy that I work with for appliance and household repair. He does the job right and takes the time to truly troubleshoot what is wrong instead of the typical repairman who says you need a whole new appliance or assembly. He usually very punctual and is very trustworthy.

I was extremely dissatisfied by the service from Mr Appliance. My (unwritten) quote did not match the invoice total. I asked for a written quote, which I was told by my repair man that he didn’t have any more written estimate sheets. The repair man was over two hours late to the service appointment — and showed up with NO TOOLS. After installing the gaskets for my refrigerator, he had to return half an hour later because he had put them on UPSIDE DOWN. After he attempted to fix the «problem» my fridge wouldn’t get cold so yet another service call had to be made. After all was said and done, the labor was outrageously expensive, the repair man didn’t know what he was doing, and my refrigerator had more problems after they left, than before they were called. There are MUCH better service technicians out there, spend a few more minutes finding one — your sanity will thank me.

Call these people if you want great service! Mr. Appliance is extremely professional and very careful. He wore booties into our home, was cautious of our hardwood floors and most importantly he fixed our leaking GE Monogram Dishwasher! I would recommend him to anyone who needs their appliances repaired. He utilizes the latest technology and his price was reasonable. We called him after watching «Undercover Boss» couldn’t have been more pleased with this company.

After getting screwed by Active Appliance and the other Russian-owned appliance repair services, it was refreshing to find Richard at Mr. Appliance of Malibu. Not sure what his service range is but it includes Calabasas. His wife Sonja answers the phone and Richard does the repairs. Both are extremely professional and courteous.
I have used his services twice. He is very diagnostic and spends the extra effort to get to the real root of the problem. This ensures he repairs only the affected parts, and does not recommend unnecessary repairs that the other appliance firms seem prone to do.
In recent years, a large slice of the appliance repair industry has degraded into foreign-owned companies with rude dispatchers, unqualified service personnel and extremely questionable ethics. Richard at Mr. Appliance is the exact opposite. Courteous, clean, ethical. I highly recommend Richard for your appliance repair needs.
