Not the biggest fan but food is good. Prices are very high for what you get, service is alright but if busy good luck getting your food hot.

We had a great meal there tonight! We told our server, Janet, it was our first time here and asked for recommendations. She gave us info but went a step further and had the kitchen do a small sample of each type of meat and sauce they offer! What a perfect way to try everything and get a feel for the menu. We decided on the chicken chimichanga and the mixed fajitas, chicken and steak. The steak was phenomenal! Service was spot on even though they were busy and had a very steady stream of patrons coming through the door. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you for turning us into regular customers!!!

The natives know of «El Chaps». The food is good. I don’t drink so I know nothing of the drinks they serve besides pop. If you are in the area be sure to stop.

Just okay, alright Americanized Mexican food. Nothing special. Much better Mexican options in Adrian like Cancun just down the road on Main St.

Maybe it’s nostalgia, but my family and I love this restaurant, and have been coming back for over 15 years. We drive 40 minutes, one way, just for their pitchers of margaritas and great Mexican food. I love that you can get things a la carte, or a dinner platter, with plenty of rice and beans on the side. There’s something for everyone and we’ve never left hungry. The wait can be intimidating, but they do a good job of seating people quickly. And the food is worth it!

Thank you Unilocal for the good find! Staff is kind and attentive as well as very accommodating. I’m a very picky eater and I was given the appropriate warning on price change and a smile. The meal was delicious! I’ll definitely come back.

Food is great, just be prepared for sticker shock on alcohol. Been going for a long time.

Went with a friend that highly recommended this place. Just ok… home made warm chips would be an improvement, salsas were just ok, cheese sauce was melted velveeta. Guacamole, was good, and you can order tacos, quesadilla etc ala carte if not real hungry. Food just ok. Dos Equis on tap. Don’t understand the hype over this versus any other Mexican place you’ve ever eaten at. Men’s bathroom was Gross.

We went early Saturday night when it was starting to get busy. We were seated pretty quickly but it took awhile for the waitress to come over and take our drinks order. I just had ice water with lemon, which was clearly city water and quite gross. It also took awhile to get chips and salsa. The salsa is very smooth, almost like a sauce. Good flavor just wish there was some chunk to it. Chips were ok. We ordered ala carte items to try various things. The chicken enchiladas were great. The tacos were also very good. The pork tamale was small and pretty dry. The beef on our nachos was fantastic but the cheese was not good. It tasted like melted plastic. maybe it was Velveeta? We ended with the fried ice cream, which was alright. It just wasn’t very crunchy like it should be. Our waitress was terribly slow and never brought us refills or even asked. Portions are small but prices weren’t bad on the items we chose.

Nothing special that I could not make at home and I am not much of a cook. I expected home made tortillas and chips but only the salsa seemed home made and it was too hot and no choice of a mild salsa. Plus it was liquid and not chunky. I ordered a combination plate and there was nothing on there that I particularly liked. I had a very weak strawberry margarita. I heard good things about this place but was disappointed. We were starving and did have to wait quite a while although the place was nearly empty. Only saw one waitress for lunch time. More like a bar that serves Mexican food than a restaraunt that serves drinks.

My husband and I love Mexican food and have enjoyed it from Mexico to Michigan, including dozens of restaurants between Detroit’s Mexican town and the area surrounding Ann Arbor. Detroit’s and Adrian’s are both very good, but very different from each other. A lot of places just use ground beef or plain chicken covered in Mexican dressings and various tortilla wrap methods. Food at The Grasshopper is seasoned nicely and made to order. Side dishes are as good as the entrees!!! The Grasshopper serves up delicious well flavored refried beans, and moist fresh well seasoned rice-not minute rice or converted rice but the real thing-as sides to many dinner selections. I had beef enchiladas made with well seasoned beef, and a topping of a cheese sauce… NOT drowned in plain melted cheese… they were delicious! My husband had steak fajitas which were tender and well seasoned. The salsa was just great! We choose extra hot and they also had mild and medium. Great. Delicious. And plenty are good descriptions of the salsa! We also ordered guacamole which was fresh and tasty! We consider this restaurant to be better than any other Mexican one In SE Michigan and drive 45 minutes to enjoy it. They are also open till 11:00 which is nice if you have a long drive to get there or have a meeting or sport beforehand.

Very overrated. Wait times are long and the cheese sauce tasted like melted Velveeta. Our server didn’t seem to care about drink refills. We had to ask for the bill after being forgotten about. It is just another restaurant in Adrian that caters to the lack of taste buds this town seems to cater to. I wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for an authentic experience. There are other options in town that offer better flavor, less waiting, and better service.

It is what it is. I guess if you want to get stuffed for cheap and waddle out of the place like all of the other buffet lovers in this town then go here. I give it 3 stars because the waitress was a gem.

I am certainly biased on this one. I grew up in Adrian, and the Grasshopper is always a must stop place when I return home for vacation and holidays. The food is simply awesome, I have not found another mexican place I like better. The service is always friendly, food always tasty, prices are reasonable, and actually seem cheap after living in Seattle for 10 years.

My families favorite Mexican restaurant. My parents have been going here since they were both kids, now whenever we are in town we head straight to El Chaps. By far the best restaurant in Adrian. Chips could be a little better, but that is my only qualm with this place.

Updated 1÷28÷14 I liked the Margaritas(some say best in town) as well as the tacos. They went smoke free Jan 1, 2010 before the ban… even better. The Chicken Fajitas are two cuts above other places. Unlike a place near Wal Mart… this venue’s Margaritas actually have alcohol in them and taste great. Made at the time of order, not stockpiled in pitchers… they are Fresh and Frothy! Adrian is a town rich in Hispanic Culture so you will find many authentic Mexican eateries, and they are all pretty good. I vote Grasshopper/El Chapulin as the top on my list that serves alcohol.
