Dr. Desjarlais began his educational experience graduating from the University of Michigan Honors College with a BS degree in Biochemistry in 1984. After 3 years of research in the UM Department of Dermatology he then attended Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated medical school in 1991 and returned to the UM to complete a residency in Dermatology. Upon completion of his residency, he earned his board certification as a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD).

Dr. Desjarlais began his practice in 1994 in Adrian, Michigan. He is committed to career long learning and teaching. He performed his first laser treatment here in 1996. He has been evaluating and adopting new technologies and techniques since then. He is a member of speaker boards for various pharmaceutical companies and participates in clinical research studies, as well as provides necessary feedback to these companies from clinical trials.
