Disturbia Torment of Fears

The staff was really enthusiastic about the characters they were dressed up as. They would interact with customers waiting in line by scaring them. The costumes where extremely detailed and you could tell a lot of hard work was put into it. The haunted house itself was very detailed between the various scenes you walk through, as well as the special effects. The price of a ticket wasn’t bad either as long as it wasn’t the VIP choice. The whole thing takes about 20 minutes to walk through and every second was exciting and worth it. They only let 6 people max in at a time so if you’re in a larger group plan ahead how you’re going to be split up. While you wait inside to get in they play the best parts of old horror movies on TV. However if you’re a women with a group of guys you eventually hit a point where one of the actors makes you leave your group and walk through by yourself. I asked the actor what happens if she doesn’t want to leave her group and go by herself, she then pointed at the exit sign. About 3 minutes later the actor let us go and we eventually met up with her.

This place is not customer friendly. A group of us went after work on one of the scheduled nights we saw online. I even called and spoke with a person an hour before we went to confirm the payment situation. We arrive and the door says they are open that night, but no cars, and no employees. I call the number again and the guy who answers tells me it was a misprint on the site and door. I mention that there were about 10 – 12 people in the lot trying to find out what was going on. And that if they knew of the mistake wouldn’t a sign on the door be better then nothing? The guy says yes I guess, but that «lady, I just answer the phone» wow. My crew and a few other customers went 5 mins away to the asylum experiment at the odeum. Had a blast. Oh well disturbias loss.

I think Haunted Houses are a fun activity to do to get into the spirit of Halloween. I’m amused by them, but they don’t scare me at all.
I went here with a group of six friends and they split us up into two groups of three.
Price was $ 22. They only take cash, but they have an ATM inside. We thought it was $ 20, but they said it’s only $ 20 with a coupon. (That’s annoying…)
**SPOILERS!!** True to its name, some of the rooms were quite disturbing (naked woman torso on a wall). I wondered how the huge group of kids that looks like they were all maybe 12 – 13 years old would handle seeing that… My least favorite thing about the house was they made you walk through a few hallways that’ just a slit of like inflated plastic that rubs up against you. I won’t name specific female body parts because I don’t want this review getting flagged, but it was how I imagined the birthing experience to be. I wouldn’t call myself a germaphobe, but I’m germ-​aware, and walking thru that grossed me out thinking about all the hundreds of people who had already walked thru there… Needless to say I showered and washed all my clothes as soon as I got home.

Originally I wanted to give Disturbia more than 3 stars, but after letting it all set in I’m good with only 3.
I went here on a Sunday with my boo-​friend… get it? And they were closed but said they’d be open at 7. Get there close to 8, still not open so we waited in line for about 30 more minutes. They had some actors coming up to us in line but they were teenage boys with their faces and shirts painted, wearing gym shorts and nikes. Not too scary if you ask me! What WAS scary was the man dressed as a woman with scary contacts. Disturbing actually.
I asked the girl at the front if there were any stairs, or anything crazy like that because I have a knee injury. She said no stairs or anything like that. Well guess what– they lied. No spoilers here, but there is a stair or two in the beginning after an unexpected turn around. Luckily the skeleton man was nice enough to tell me there were two stairs and held his hand out to help me down. Thanks skeleton man!
I have to say– I absolutely hate clowns. I especially hate scary clowns in haunted houses. When we got to the clown room I’m pretty sure my boyfriend got to experience what it’d be like to hold my hand during child birth… and then I realized, it wasn’t that bad. Now– me in a clown room I should be peeing my pants or running away screaming. Nothing.
It was pretty cool. Now that I think about it, Halloween is tomorrow and let me just spoil some of it. theres one room where you walk in and you think you should go to the right, then they close a door and guess what? You’re stuck behind bars with a mass murderer type man! Then they let you out and you have to walk by him to get out… That shit was scary. Then you walk into redneck murder house– creeped the F outta me! Ah!
They also had this crazy thing with like tarps and you had to walk in between them, but there was like air pressure or something pushing against them swaying you back and forth and you’re literally smooshed in between them and can’t see ANYTHING! A little rough if you have a bum knee, but pretty cool.
There were def some cool things, especially the beginning which I won’t ruin just in case they do it again next year… but still, only 3 stars for me. I still suggest going!

Disturbia was GREAT! I was a little skeptical at how scary this place would be given that it’s run by the park district, but I was plenty scared by what Disturbia had to offer. It was a huge, never ending maze of scary rooms. Each room had a different theme. There were the killer clowns, the crazy monkeys, they cannibalistic hicks, creepy clowns, etc. And of course the requisite chain saw.
Tip — get an express pass ticket to avoid any lines.

Gotta be honest, Disturbia is an appropriate name for this haunt.
It all starts as you valk through the doors into the main vaiting area vhich is dark as night, so dark even the ticket seller had to have lights on her reading glasses to take care of her customers. There vere a few creatures valking about the vaiting area but not so many as it was a Thursday night and there vas no wait. You are told to go vait at the gates of Hell to begin your adventure…
As you enter and the creature at the door takes your ticket and gives you the spiel about how you are not to touch the actors they will not touch you, blah blah blah, you are transported into a freaky psychedelic spiderweb nightmare which transcends into a creepy outdoor scene. Just vhen you are starting to get scared you realize that you still haven’t entered the main house yet.
Vhen you get to the entrance, you are greeted by several creatures vho vant to make sure that you are thoroughly prepared to go inside the house of horrors. As you go through the house there are many disturbing scenes including a hillbilly house, a clown area and horrifying dentists office (since there is nothing scarier than going to the dentist). The actors interact vell vith the patrons and even take delight in seperating groups to vhere one person is left by themselves (mainly the girl haha). There is also one more scene, vell I don’t vant to give too much avay but it involves a super-​scary animatronic statue vhich will blow your mind!
Ve valked avay from Disturbia… disturbed. And satisfied.

I had a pretty good time here while visiting with a friend on Groupons. There were a couple of times when my heart skipped a beat, and one amazingly disorienting room that you pass through 3 times. Despite the decent setup I spent most of the time laughing… but that’s just the kind of guy I am. The people in front of us (not being first always makes it «easier») were scared plenty of times, and my friend was harassed to a point of silliness (that’s a good thing). One younger kid didn’t seem too scared, but another was definitely not having a good time (which is perfect!).
Much of the setup was pretty cool, and a central location that you don’t have drive an hour to get to is very nice. I attended on a Tuesday night… surely not the busiest day of the week, but it was nice to be able to pop right in and not have to wait in terrifying line games for 4+ hours like I did for Statesville a year or two ago.
Most of the actors did a very good job, and the operation seemed pretty well organized. I’m not sure I’d head back without some motivation, but I did enjoy myself.
Really though, that jail room was incredibly disorienting. I was convinced the floor was moving and I’m getting woozy just thinking about it. Great!

I think what impressed me the most was that this haunted house was put on by the Addison Park District (located in the Addison Golf Dome). Pretty hip for a park district! I went with a promotion through Groupon last Friday night around 8pm and we had no wait time (the VIP line bypass didn’t even need to come into play).
I was separated from my boyfriend and his sister, which totally freaked me out! The layout was executed (pun intended) in a way that makes you feel like you are totally lost. I was completely turned about, which was a refreshing change from the majority of the haunted houses that guide you through. I like to go to haunted houses and make small talk with the actors, and all the actors were able to think on their feet very well. They did a good job getting all up in your space and freaking you out without violating you.
I won’t tell you I was terrified the whole time, because I did get a few chuckles out of the place mixed in with the element of surprise, but Disturbia did a great job thinking outside the box and showing me things I haven’t seen before. My favorite room had to be what I affectionately termed as «The Maury», which you could only understand if you went to Disturbia and had an intimate knowledge of daytime television.
My boyfriend and I aren’t the most easily scared, my boyfriend reported back to me that his sister ended up sleeping with the lights on that night. «The Maury» will do that to you.
