The legendary landlord of this pub retired not too long ago, which was a cause for concern for some. I can only go on how I found it and it seemed like a really friendly pub with a whopping selection of roughly 10 ales to choose from. Tether Blonde was really rather nice.

This pub is renowned for its beer range, which includes about a dozen real ales on tap, changing on a weekly basis. It also has occasional beer festivals, during which an extra bar is assembled in the back room. The pub is simply furnished, with wooden floors and walls, and a tiny beer garden. It’s usually fairly easy to find a seat. Also sells chilli, sandwiches and other inexpensive food, with occasional live music.

The Rook & Gaskill looks deceptively small from the outside — but don’t be fooled, once inside you soon realise it’s a pretty decent sized pub, and as it’s off the beaten ‘pub circuit’ track you can be assured of a quiet drink — unless of course they’re having live music and then things can get pretty lively! One of the strong points of this pub is the huge selection of real ales, that change all the time. It’s well worth a visit if you love beer and want to try something new. They also sell a wide range of wines and spirits as well as a selection of soft drinks.
