Been only once never again, nothing to do with staff they were fine the people who go there are always fighting and throwing drinks. Last time I went there they threw everyone out as there was a fight. It was terrifying. Not at all a nice place

They made me take my hat off. Any time I can’t rep Black & Orange is a minus one star off the bat. Other then that. It’s a solid club. Top-​40 music every time I went in. Always seemed to be the busiest club in town. I met come real cool people when I was there. If any one knows an ex SAS officer named Andy in York, please let me know.
If you go to York, and are going to take in the night life, you’ll end up here at some point. It’s open later then all the pubs, and most of the clubs. Take it for what it is, have fun and enjoy York.

I went to the gallery nightclub as a first time visitor to the city, due to my experience at this club i doubt i will ever return. Within half an hour i had a drink thrown at me from the balcony because a girl decided she didnt like how i danced, then she and her boyfriend proceeded to attack me, he held me in a headlock and punched me in the face and she kicked me in the stomach. the couple they were with both set upon my friend while a group of male and female spectators watched and did not attempt to help either of us. The door staff escorted us out ‘for our own safety’. after a long time with the police it turned out the people who had assaulted us were still enjoying thier night out. this is because they were regulars. The staff refused to look through the cctv or investigate any further but police insisted on looking through the tapes, when they asked about this management finally told them that the tapes had already been looked at and shed no light on the situation as the incident conveniently happened in a blind spot. As it was our word against theirs the police were no help at all. This has totally destroyed my faith in the justice system and human compassion. I am disgusted and would not reccoment this club to anybody.

The gallery is one of the more popular venues in york, and is usually very busy. The gallery has two floors, one floor for people who enojoy dance & R&b music and the lower floor for people who would rather listen to indie/​rock music.
The drinks in the gallery are rather expenisive as is the entry fee at £7. However, these prices dont seem to deter people from going there.

This is the main club now in York. Like all clubs you have a long wait to get to the bar, the drinks aren’t cheap and you stick to the floor in that ‘what the hell am I stepping on kind of way’. The plus side is by the time you get to the Gallery you shouldn’t be worried about any of these things as you should be a wee bit tipsy ready to checkout the crowd and avoid getting a beating off a drunken chav.
As endgame for a messy night out then its a laugh, but with the Lowther pub open late just round the corner its purely one for the dancers.

as you walk through the main entrance, your met by a very grand looking stairway!
bags are checked by the bouncers (and no, i don’t hang out with a rough looking crowd!)
theres lots of stairs to this place! stairs to the bar, stairs to the dance floor, and stairs to the stairs!
music as you would expect, loud, modern but the dj always mixes the right tracks for a good dance! though the floor gets crowded, and bumping into people can’t be helped, it all adds to a major health risk, being only 5ft 2inches tall, getting bopped on the head by accident, seems to be the theme of the night for me there!
there are plenty of bouncers inside and outside of the club to spot trouble makers and sling them out! so on the numerous times i’ve been i’ve only seen one fight.
some underaged girls get in, so if your chatting up a pretty girl that looks young, she most probably is! i know this as i knew some of them, when i went, on different occassions. but not going to spoil their night by informing the bouncers! and its safer for them to be in the club with all there friends then, being the only one out on the streets!
toilets are always crowded and the queues are huge and by 10pm out of toilet roll, so take your own.
don’t use the less busy mens toilets or you’ll be removed from the club! (personal experience!)
if your planning a girls/​lads night out etc and going to the club, ring in advance for cheaper entry tickets, though entry needs to be before 11pm! say its a birthday!
and if your talent spotting, lots to see!

The Gallery
As York’s predominant nightclub of barely three possible candidates, The Gallery attracts every imaginable specimen from the York area and beyond. This is the regular end point for pub-​goers of Plonkers or The Lowther, meaning there is a high number of students and a disturbingly advancing amount of schoolkids, all mixed up with the various local builders, the scores of supposedly professional footballers and not forgetting those shady older men who lurk on the circular gallery above the dancefloor.

As York lacks clubs but certainly not bars, this is the better of the very few clubs that there are. It’s reasonably priced, the people are friendly and it’s a fun place to hang out, with a bit of variety as it’s on three floors with two different types of music. I would recommend visiting a fair few bars before arriving though.
