The Lighthouse became operational on 1^st March 1894.
It was electrified in 1936.
In 1976 it was shutdown.
In 1984 Kay Kendall’s (actress) family bought the Lighthouse for £60K. The Lighthouse was to becoma a memorial to her and as a Lighthouse and Lifeboat Museum.
Admission is dirt cheap at £2.50 per adult.
The views are priceless.
It is 130 ft high and there are 144 steps to the top.
Visit the Lighthouse, it’s well worth it — very informative, Gordon (80 years young) will tell you a tale or two!

Withernsea Lighthouse stands in the middle of the town which may seem a bit weird but isn’t.
The base features RNLI and HM Coastguard exhibits. There is a local history room with Victorian and Edwardian photos including the pier and railway. There is also a Kay Kendall memorial, a 1950s film star born in the town. I think she was in a film with Kenneth Moore about a car. London to Brighton rally? (Genevieve)

The views from the lamp room are breathtaking, especially after climbing 144 steps but I went a bit wobbly and hot and breathless. not from the climb but the stairs go round the walls and it looks a long way down!
