Well its got location appeal. Its large open plan lots of wood and oldy modern styling. However its a chain pub and it feels like a small upmarket Weather spoons but its a Fullers pub. Nothing wrong with the beer but to be honest if you want intimate avoid its set up for group drinking.

We stopped by here for a few pints while touring the city, mainly because their outdoor seating is right along the Itchen River. The seating is covered with umbrellas, but it was cloudy and thankfully not raining. The inside is very spacious and it had about a dozen customers inside and out. There is a second floor as well, but other than the toilets, I am not sure what else there is. I think there is a more formal dining area if I am not mistaken or maybe an area for parties. Because it is a «Fuller’s Pub,» that is the selection of beer and cider.

Not too bad. A great spot with a terrace garden overlooking the river. Inside is the usual roomy Fullers pub with a good stock of well kept beers. The size inside makes it a little soulless and I noticed a few folks sending food back. Prices were reasonable and most of the bar staff friendly enough.

The Bishop on the Bridge is undoubtedly one of my favourite Winchester haunts. The food is fantastic, the drinks are reasonably priced, and atmosphere is always friendly and chilled out. My only gripe is the scrapping of their weekly pub quiz! The restaurant is like a large, old-fashioned farmhouse complete with log fire and candlelit tables. It is incredibly family friendly — my mum, with a 10-month little girl, claims it’s the only place in Winchester where children are happily welcomed and catered for. The patio area is gorgeous in the summer, situated right next to the River Itchen and the river walk. They have regular karaōke nights and live music throughout the year and barbecues in the summer too — it’s an absolute must if you’re visiting Winchester for a few days.

This is a pub great in summer due to the small beer garden out the back which over looks the river, they will serve food out here so grab a table quickly. In winter it is cosy and somehow makes you feel nostalgic as you sit in the comfort of leather sofas. There is a fantastic sweeping staircase, but it just takes you up to the loos! There is a great bar menu, reasonably priced and served quickly so it’s hot! Staff are friendly and it really is a little gem of a pub. Gets very busy, particularly on Sunday’s, when it becomes standing room only!
