Not a bad pub, selection of real ales on and not the usual national stuff. Its décor and furnishings are a bit rough otherwise would give a four star. Has improved my opinion of Warrington, looks like the best pubs may well be hidden.

If you like real ales The Lower Angel is an ideal pub with at least 6 guest ales on a rotation, and regular choices too. A micro brewery is also on site allowing the pub to serve their own brews. The pub also stocks over 80 distinctive whiskies, including some, which are rare.

A real ale-lovers pub. The real ale on offer is always of a high standard and eminently drinkable, especially now that«The Angel»(The Higher Angel has long gone) has its own beers on sale, having installed a brewery! Prices are extremely good and they take a lot of business off us poor, tied publicans… unfortunately, deservedly! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a cracking pint. 6.9.2010 Although advertised, still no sign of «home-brewed» ales on sale, but selection is still extremely good. Update January 2011; Brewery in operation and awaiting first brew to be ready and casked. Last time I visited, I had some Salopian Black Ops… a «meal-in-a-glass»! Extremely well-served extra porter at 7.5%, not for the faint-hearted(nor drivers). Further update 9.7.2011 We picked the one day when there were no Tipsy Angel brews on. I have also found that this is a tied house(quelle surprise!) Still excellent choice of well-served ales plus almost 100 malt whiskies; the first time I have seen Edradour on sale in an English pub and they have a choice of two!

A real old drinker pub. It’s difficult to tell the bar from the lounge. No food. Real ale. TV in the bar. If you like real ale then it is on the must visit list. Past winner of Camra regional pub of the year. Rumours that this will be the second pub in Warrington to install a micro brewery in 2009. Update. They are supposed to be having the brewery Delivered before the end of November 2010. Prices are still at the top end of the scale even with all the competition including Wetherspoons, Porter and The old town house a few yards away.
